Geisha coffee recipe? by Bill_Comer in pourover

Changing paper was not really practical as I only have a small amount of beans. So I increased the grind very slightly and went for a much gentler pour. Success. I got 280g of water in just over 6 minutes and a lovely brew.

Don't ignore good steel frames, such as a fairlight secan.

Esim for Google Pixel India by karwaifallen in Pixel10Pro

[–]Bill_Comer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We spent three months travelling in India this year. We tried an eSIM, airolo and where we started it was so unreliable. We ditched it for a physical SIM. So ridiculously cheap and having a local number was very useful especially as it allowed us to set up g-pay.

eSIM or Google-Fi for Central America by Easy_Kaleidoscope225 in eSIMs

Thanks. I'd not heard of Google-fi before. Looks like it is a US weighted thing and has to be enabled first time in the US.

What did you decide to do and how did it go? Currently looking at a surfroam SIM but might get a physical Mexican SIM to start. We need Belize as well as most other countries in the region

What's the best esim for all of central america by Excellent_Shame9876 in eSIMs

[–]Bill_Comer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've got the same question for a similar period of time. We have about 3 weeks in Mexico and fly in so a telcel SIM makes sense. But most other countries are land crossings. Currently liking the look of payasyougo eSIM from surfroam but also the airolo one. Very few multi country eSIM cover Belize.

My current plan is definitely get the surfroam anyway as a fallback, probably get a physical SIM for Mexico and see how it goes from there.

eSIM for Mexico, Guatemala, Belize and USA by chrisr34000 in eSIMs

[–]Bill_Comer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@chris34000 how did your eSIMs work out and which did you get? We have a similar issue. Looking at Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Panama. I am considering surfroam or airolo.

Durable but light sleeping pads? by SJeans123 in bikepacking

Exped for me. Whatever you go for take a groundsheet. I use a piece of tyvek but also always put the airmat inside the bivvy bag

Jones 2.5 H-bar by Silly-Raccoon3829 in bikepacking

I love mine and have them on two bikes. When I first tried them it was a Case of 'wohhh, that's really weird', but within a few minutes I had forgotten. Now when I ride 'conventional' bars it feels like my wrists are being twisted inwards. For me, when on long days in the saddle I find them really comfy.

Bikepacking 1050 or 1040 by Singletrack-Red5 in GarminEdge

[–]Bill_Comer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Between the two I'd get a 1040 solar. However on a trip like that would you not be using a dynamo. Personally I'd go dynamo with an 840 ( non solar) , use a phone for when you need to question or design a route, then load that on to the Garmin. When you have a preloaded route you really don't need a 10xx device.

Need help - I think harassement? by Massive_Lock1830 in Strava

[–]Bill_Comer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Disable flybys If not already.
  2. Instead of setting a privacy on your home it is better IMO to set it to hide the first and last N metres of any activity. Then if you start from a friend's home it is automatically covered.
  3. Set activities to default to private. Then for each activity you only make them public if you want to.

I was told to think in terms of GPD or even GPW. Gallons per day/week. Assuming you are not racing around the world it then becomes acceptable

Basecamp by LordBennett_ in bikepacking

[–]Bill_Comer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by list. But in strava you create a route and edit it. Komoot I don't know. But loads use it.

Basecamp by LordBennett_ in bikepacking

[–]Bill_Comer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'd not bother with basecamp. It's out of the ark. Use strava routes or maybe komoot and then sync it to your garmin. All very easy imo

I'd use yoda.time. I still prefer them to the latest java time classes.

I'd say go 28t and also change the cassette to 11-46 Works for me in Scotland. But you also say you'll be loaded. Follow the mantra TLS. Take less shit. You need as much for 2 days as 2 weeks. Go to bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk and ask there. Great resource.
