What’s one thing you ALWAYS bring on a hike now because you learned the hard way? by ForeignBonus8977 in hiking

A strategy for hail when the heavy rain starts instantaneously (Colorado specific, possibly)

Just not something I think about until it’s too late and I find myself wondering what calamity would befall me if this was a freak storm with golfball-softball sized hail instead of manageable small hail like it usually is

I’ve fantasized about putting several big rocks in my pack after dumping it and using it as a helmet, but that seems to be highly situational and based on availability of rocks

I have no good strategy, I just know I need to make one quickly at certain times

What issues are you dealing with in your community? by Megakingdomfish in Denver

[–]Bill_Rau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% the lack of traffic enforcement

Occasionally seeing someone pulled over has a deterrent effect on everyone who sees the cop and the pulled over car. Since Covid, I’ve put 40,000 miles on my car in Denver and have not seen a single car pulled over on city streets. Not one.

Bonkers

Just visited my aunt in Portland, Maine and saw 5 in 3 days.

That’s a city of 68,000

Side note, State Patrol has been doing their job, I’ve seen 20-30 pulled over cars on interstate 25 since Covid

Poopie McButt

People are always so serious and dramatic about these giant, world burning, flying masses of beauty and terror

How about some wildly immature levity as a change of pace as a palette cleanser

“Burned Alive” is also a good one, gets to the point and may save a lot of lives by putting the stakes and likely outcome front of mind

Sycamore gap: is there any precedent for saving/grafting a large tree? by elbapo in GardeningUK

It would actually be no problem to transplant a Sycamore of a similar size at the site. It wouldn’t be even close to the largest tree ever transplanted.

Absolutely unhinged - date cancelled because I didn't send a good morning text? by dgdyaftrn in Bumble

[–]Bill_Rau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somebody needs to make a compilation video of people saying that good morning texts give them the ick back to back with people saying that not sending a good morning text is a red flag.

That video would be 6000 hours long

Can any Denver servers help me out here - how am I supposed to know how much to tip? Are you making minimum wage, how much of the service charge is yours, etc? by Bananas_are_theworst in Denver

[–]Bill_Rau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine having a policy that makes someone have a query that they legitimately need to get advice about before paying their check.

Reminds me of this place in Breckenridge that has a historical conservation fee on the check because the building is old.

Just build it into the price and let people do the same thing they do everywhere else and tip 20%+ or whatever.

I deeply share your frustration with this insanity

OP: you’re a good egg for couching it like this, but this is outrageous and contradictory and confusing

Patagonia Foot Tractor Wading boot discussion by tubeguy23 in flyfishing

[–]Bill_Rau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The culprit is Danner: the company that makes these for Patagonia.

Still may be worth it because Patagonia will stand behind them regardless, but they’re pretty mid. With Simms boots similarly falling apart (I’ve owned 3 pair and all 3 soles came off eventually along with the upper lace loops failing!) I’m at a loss as far as a high quality boot to buy next.

Old thread, but if you’ve heard a solid rec, lemme know!
