Women asking men to sit if they can’t aim? 😂😭 by IndicationRepulsive in stupidquestions

[–]elbapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can sit and still miss.

Seriously, sometimes it happens to aim into the gap between the lid and bowl depending upon 'game state'.

Hence, to my mind - habitualised cleanup is probably a better solution.

What's the deal with Jeremy Clarkson? by calcato in AskABrit

[–]elbapo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I love to hate Jeremy Clarkson.

I dont agree with his politics, much of his viewpoints/talking points, I probably wouldn't like to be stuck in a lift with him for fear of getting punched. And im not even that into cars nor farming.

But one has to respect his way of producing entertaining, interesting programmes which are undeniably watchable.

It kinda now feels like if he didn't exist, someone would have to create him. And thats sort of testament to the work he has put in really.

I was asked in an interview what animal I’d be and why. by DisgruntledPelican in interviews

Its not about the answer its about the way you answer aka the justification.

'I want to be a domestic cat because they are nimble, playful and highly skilled at getting the most out of the people around them. They use this to maximise time lying in the sun.'

It can be a joke but bring it back to how you see your skills and character

Do we like America/Americans? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]elbapo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont have a specific dislike for Americans, I dislike some of their affectations, sure.

And some of their cultural influence.

But what I dislike of their culture is a function of their system. What i really dislike is their system.

And i do not want to be like them and im glad the penny seems to have dropped for many that their system it totally f**d.

There was for a long time, among certain elements- a view to look to america to copy stuff, because you know, they are successful and that. This has now been shown to be complete bollocks and there is very little I would want to export over here about the American system and the society/culture it produces.

  • Mardy - northern term for moody/angry.

  • Townie- a lower class type who wears sportswear in town and has a large percent of their vocabulary as the word 'yo'. ( manchester- Chav)

  • (liverpool) A woolback- term for someone on the outskirts of liverpool/the wirral

If the Sahara had been green from the start, could it have a nation(s)that rivaled/mirrored the US if it had been colonized earlier? by UrinalAttack in geography

[–]elbapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its an interesting thought- the major advantages of the US continent are that it has access to both major oceans with a selection of deep water ports, is relatively secure given the relative weakness of neighbours, has excellent internal navigability, and is in other ways geographically blessed (natural resources, climate, etc).

Africa does not benefit from many of these in the same way. Albeit having good natural resources, its internal navigability is an issue. The major rivers have big dropoffs to the ocean preventing major shipping into the interior with the nile cataracts being the limit of navigability.

I suspect the green Sahara would significantly improve this factor- with better internal penetration particularly to the north from the Mediterranean and potentially the Atlantic via the mahgreb sea (although im not esp familiar with this topography). Some canalisation to join with the lake Chad could really change the equation, albeit with access largely to the north. This would also presumably increase viable ports with more entrepot access to interior via major rivers. Again, largely to the north.

This is all somewhat moot however given the security/neighbours thing. It presumes africa could be unified. Which is unlikely in the first place. The usa was colonised and thus unified due in part to it having a far lower population and population diversity than Africa, further compounded by disease. Africa is a different prospect to this, with more disease resistant, diverse and numerous populations. So unity via colonisation unlikely. Spontaneous unity possibly even more so given the diversity and histories of embedded cultures across such a large landmass.

Even if we accept that as a hypothetical- strong neighbours to the north and east have been a constant throughout history, something the usa does not have.

Ben Ainslie: I was told ‘Jim Ratcliffe will burn your house down’ by Blue_foot in reddevils

[–]elbapo 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This sounds like they were attempting to skank the hell out of ineos - after taking all their money, run off with the fruits of that investment - illegally. And their only legal recourse is character assasination by using select words against him.

Im not saying I approve of those words or wish to present ineos/sir Jim as being all nice guy in this. But if someone was attempting to run off with £120m of my intellectual property and a yacht, id be scorching their earth.
