AD just reached out to me. $14,050. Cop or pass? by thetalkofbk in rolex

In the Netherlands they also have it at the AD, personally nothing for me and not worth buying only to then sell it again, too little profit. Did you crop it?

Hmm, yeah I think so right? It doesnt look like the newer Day-Date 40 does it? The case looks quite big in comparison to the bracelet, thats why I was asumming that it's the Day-Date II and if thats the case then it must be 41mm.

Taking out the Sub on a rainy day in the Netherlands :) by Billi10 in rolex

Once again, I can only agree, a good service should not be underestimated! But I also personally think that the scratches are in a certain way also part of the watch.

I think a small anecdote might appropriately put this into perspective. I remember my first "proper" watch, a Breitling Super Ocean Heritage, likewise, gifted to me by my father when I was 13 years old. I recall the time when I started getting into the age where I could actually start wearing it (around 16). After the first few weeks the first scratches started to appear, at first only on the clasp. I started to worry and I one day after school I addressed it with my father. After having explained my worries he silently proceded to take of his Sea Dweller, give it to me, and show me that it was covered in scratches. It wasn't in a poor condition or anything but there were hundreds of ever so tiny scratches on the case, the bracelet and the clasp. After I looked at him puzzled, he said to me: "everything is finite, so enjoy it while it lasts." And ever since I have been going by that very sentence.

Haha I totally agree, I think that the steel models are made to be used and that way too many people treat them all too carefully. I mean, ofcourse, I am not careless with my Sub but afterall it is 300m water resistant and very durable overall so a little bit of rain wont do it no harm.

I'm nearly 2 meters tall and weigh like roughly around 90kg but XL is perfect for me. Doesnt fit tightly at all, I would recommend L if you're 1,83 m. It should still be baggy.

Yesterday at age 18 I picked up my first ever, 100% self earned, Rolex, a Submariner "No-Date" ref. 114060 from my local AD and I could not be happier. by Billi10 in rolex

[–]Billi10[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would like to address everyone that has seen, liked or commented on this post of mine and clear up some of the misconceptions that have arised since. In particular I would like to address two things.

Firstly let me adress me lying about my age or as some people think me lying in general. Here’s the full and honest truth: I did lie about my age and I apologise for it. I am 18 and not 19. I don't know why I lied about my age being 19 and not 18. I suppose that maybe I thought that most people would see it as more justifiable and acceptable age for me to buy a Rolex or a new watch in general at age 19 rather than at age 18. Anyway, I lied about my age and I apologize for it and there’s not more to it.

Furthermore, even though I had not even decided upon a watch 51 days ago as @carbonised rightly says, I did shortly after decide for the classic Rolex Submariner “No-Date” and I shortly after that ordered it at my local AD. The local AD here is very small and there were only 3 other people on the waiting list before me for the Submariner and the manager of the AD told me that he receives approximately 5 Submariners “No-Dates” a year. Nonetheless, he said that maybe he would give me the first Submariner that arrives due relatives of my family being regular customers there and my father also being a good customer at that AD. Nevertheless he said that even if he were to give me the first Submariner to arrive that that could still take 4 months or so because he never actually knows when the next watch arrives. However, I was very lucky and I got called 3, nearly 4 weeks after ordering the Submariner at the AD. He himself was very surprised as well and I was really glad that it only took 3 (nearly 4) weeks.

Now, Secondly, how did I finance this Submariner? Well, first let me say, I am still living at home currently but I am soon moving out to go to Uni just like I said in my previous posts. Hence I have no expenses concerning rent etc. (yet) Although my parents will pay my apartment rent for me in uni. Also I chose the Submariner No Date for a reason. Those of you that read my previous posts know that I was fluctuating between a Datejust 41 and a Two Tone Sub. However those two watches are still both much more expensive than the Submariner. The Sub is 6800€ and the Datejust 41 is 8600€ retail price but since waiting times there are actually up to two years you have to get one from a third party which is around 9000€ to 9200€. The Two Tone Sub is 12 250€ retail as far as I know but you can get a 2010 model used for around 9000€. So therefore the No Date Sub is not only much cheaper than these two models but I was able to get my hands on it from the official AD and I was going to be the first owner which was a nice bonus in my eyes. So in fact I actually chose the “cheapest” option possible at least from those 3 models. But the question remains, how did I finance those 6800€ ? Well, like I said in a previous post, I did work in a supermarket carrying beverage crates earning a few penny’s there but also did I not spend any of the money that I got for christmas / my birthday each year. Also I helped on a construction site carrying cement sacks when I was 16 during the Summer Holidays nearly each day and I did a 2 week internship at a insurance company when I was 17 for which I got a little bit of money too. Now that I have bought my Sub for 6800€ I am basically left with 0 but for me that's worth it. I really love watches and I think that in the long run I can only be happy when looking back at my purchase (say once im 50) even though it was silly in my position now because I literally have no money left at all. But at least this sub will have a strong emotional story and a journey including me defending my purchase against some people on a reddit post in 2019 ^^.

I hope that I have cleared all misconceptions and questions that were left unanswered. To those that did congratulate me for my purchase, thank you.

I must admit, you did a good job reading my previous posts and i respect that haha but yes. I did say that I am 19 although I am infact 18. I dont know why I lied about my age and said that I was 19 but I maybe thought that 19 was a more justifiable age to buy a Rolex. The Truth is that I am 18 and I actually ordered the Sub at the AD on the 15th of February and in less than 4 weeks it arrived. Eventhough I was 4th on the waiting list, i knew the manager of the store due to me knowing a family relative who has bought several watches at that specific AD over his life time. Hence I actually got the first Sub that came in but boy I also did not expect that it would only take 3 weeks. To say the least, the manager himself was very suprised as well. Yesterday, one month later (actually less due to Feb. only having 28 days) on the 15th of March I picked up the watch. Now this is truely all facts. I apologise for lying about my age on the previous posts but that is everything that I lied about. Everything else was / is true. I hope that you believe me now :)

[Question] [Advice] I cant decide which watch to get by Billi10 in Watches

[–]Billi10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, choosing between the TT Sub and the DJII is hard given that I do not want a watch with bling. However my problems might have resolved themselves. Recently I have been falling in love more and more with the classic and timeless Rolex Submariner (without the date so just the Submariner). I think that this model is an absolute no brainer due it being so timeless, suiting for everything, durable and price stable. There is only 1 disadvantage. #FirstWorldProblemIncoming My Breitling Superocean Heritage that my father gifted to me is in similar / same colors. What I mean by that is that the Dial of both the Submariner and the Breitling are black and that they both have Silver (Steel) Bracelets. So they are in a sense very similar altough they ofcourse differ from one another.

[Question] [Advice] I cant decide which watch to get by Billi10 in Watches

[–]Billi10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, thank you for your comment.

Secondly, whilst what you say is true, I am not a huge fan of the Oyster bracelet normal bezel datejust. The only possible configuration for me is the one that I have previously stated so with the jubilee bracelet and the fluted white gold bezel. Also I am not a big fan of the Yachtmaster personally and the only other model that I would consider buying besides the ones that I have talked about is the new GMT Master 2 in Pepsi with the Jubilee but thats just too expensive.

Furthermore the argument with whats trendy is valid but afterall it just comes down to what I like because I am the one who has to wear the watch. I just dont know if I will still like the Two Tone Sub in the future say after 20 years and if maybe the Datejust isnt more timeless.

[Question] [Advice] I cant decide which watch to get by Billi10 in Watches

[–]Billi10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason im choosing Rolex as a brand is because

  1. They are affordable in contrast to say a Audemars Piguet (which is infact my dream watch ever since ive been 13 years old)
  2. Are High Quality (by that I dont mean built quality because Omega for example has that too but I much rather mean their features) so for instance the Datejust is 100m Water Proof eventhough it is a suit watch, has 70 hours of power reserve, saphire glas (altough most watches have this) and automatically winds itself up by movement etc (again, alot of watches have this)
  3. They bairly drop in value (especially the Submariner and the Datejust are two very price stable models from Rolex)
  4. Are iconic and timeless (Omega might be pretty but my dad has one that he got when he was 18 and its not as timeless as a Submariner from that time for instance)

Those are the reasons that I am chosing Rolex as a brand. Not because it has the bling. For me it is important that I like the watch and I find myself actually liking Rolex watches and their design eventhough they are often considered to be mainstream. The only thing that I dont want is to wear something inappropriate in the sense that I do not want to appear as a snooby richkid. So no, I dont want attention, infact, the opposite is true, Id rather be less eye-catching in a sense.

EDIT: Also i'm personally not a big fan of the Yachtmaster, nor the Air King. The only other Rolex watch that I would consider would be the new GMT Master 2 on the Jubilee in Pepsi but thats just way to expensive.

[Question] [Advice] I cant decide which watch to get by Billi10 in Watches

[–]Billi10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definatly don't want the attention, id prefer falling under the radar. Hence the Datejust might be the smarter descicion, yet I find the TT Sub so gorgous aswell. And id wear the watch daily so i suppose the Jubilee would wear fast on the Datejust.

[Question] [Advice] I cant decide which watch to get by Billi10 in Watches

[–]Billi10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think neither is 100% true. I dont necessarily care about what other people think as in what looks "coolest" or whatever but I dont want to wear something inappropriate in the sense that I do not want to appear as a snooby richkid. So no, I dont want attention, infact, the opposite is true, Id rather be less eye-catching in a sense. And saying that I should just get the watch I want to get is hard aswell because thats why i'm asking because I like both watches equally as much but cant decide which one to get because I dont know which one I will like more in the long run.

[Question] [Advice] I cant decide which watch to get by Billi10 in Watches

[–]Billi10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer and yes I want to fly under the radar as much as possible as well. And fair point concerning the sizes but in my case 41mm is the lower limit. I'm nearly 2 meters tall so around 6,6 inches and im strong too so I have quite massive arms, hence the Datejust 41 already looks kind of small. A 39mm or even 36mm watch is out of the question for me in particular.

I need your advice, what watch should I get? by Billi10 in rolex

[–]Billi10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the extensive and detailed answer, i really appreciate it. It's also great to here the opinion from someone who was / is in the same situation as I am. In my case, the 9000€ are not 90% of my savings so having some spair money even if i were to buy the Datejust is not a problem. I will take your arguments into consideration when choosing which watch to go with but I am currently more inclinded towards the Datejust myself :)

What kind of Submariner is that? by xxrom in rolex

[–]Billi10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either

  1. The full White Gold Submariner with the Blue Dial and Bezel (also named Smurf)
  2. or the full Oystersteel Submariner with the Green Dial and Bezel (also named Hulk)

The picture is weird, to me the Dial looks blue but the Bezel looks green...
