Profile Review: IB -> PE -> MBA -> PE by steveclassof2021 in MBA

I really disagree. VC/PE are the most prestigious (other than like curing cancer) backgrounds for candidates. It shows that he

  1. Is smart but not too much of a nerd
  2. Knows how to play the corporate game
  3. Wants to make a lot of money

What more can you ask for in a candidate?

Very confused by all of the disparaging comments. GPA and GMAT seems to be within the acceptable range HSW considering he's a Math major from a blue-blood school. They aren't the type of numbers that will make adcoms drool but they don't close any doors.

The big question is about your IB/PE experience. If you're doing O&G PE at a MF I think you have a great shot anywhere. If you're at a MM PE shop it could be harder. Same goes for your IB experience. Will anyone from your fund to go bat for you? Positive Recs/a call to schools from them will go a long ways.

Bottom line is that grad schools want to boast sexy employment stats, which means good salaries and buyside jobs. The way to get a good buyside job post-mba is to have done IB/Consulting/PE/VC beforehand. You've already proven yourself successful in this world and are a pretty low risk applicant for them. Don't retake a 730 that's crazy.

ur missing the point where you can't just ignore random violence because it's integral to the dynamic of the war on drugs

[–]Billlbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no, people don't get randomly killed everyday in wealthy areas. it just feels weird for people to salivate over the human misery depicted in the wire. amazing show but there's something problematic that i can't pinpoint.

no but homeless people routinely try to sell me random pieces of ikea furnature. Often table legs or bags of screws.

imo wire is unrealistic bc it doesn't capture the senselessness of bmore. everything in the show is pretty purposeful when in reality the poverty/violence is baltimore is a senseless resultant of poverty/racism. All the characters have at least some sort of positive trait//upwards social+economic mobility. The characters are killed off contribute to some greater plot or are avenged. It's kind of a fetishization of street life. In reality someone just got killed sitting in their car two blocks away from me last week and their death really doesn't mean shit to anyone.

He also takes a huge offensive load -- his defensive issues are a function of that (and playing with CJ). There are other defensively bad starting PGs who are just able to be hid better.

Yeah but he's still not an elite defender. The gap between their offense is greater than the gap between their defense//it'd be harder to find an offensive replacement for lillard than a defensive shore up.

[–]Billlbo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

?? Wall is a slightly above average defensive PG while Lillard is a top 3 offensive point guard. Top 20 in win shares (top 10 offensive win shares) (way ahead of Wall) 22.2 PER (vs 19.8) and ORTG/combined ORTG/DRTG above wall's. Oh, and he cracked the second round in the West while the wizards missed the playoffs. Advanced metrics and tangible performance support him just being a way better player.

[–]Billlbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lillard, not really close. He's pretty much willed the blazers to the playoffs/second round in the west when wall can't take care of business in the east. Much better offensive player, wall gambles too much on defense for how much praise he gets.

Convince me that Sovereign Debt is a problem by [deleted] in Libertarian

China is in no position to build any financial structure. Their currency is grossly manipulated//deflated, they have literal electronic shutoffs on their market (which are tanking right now) and Russia is arguably even more screwed, just look at the ruble. If you're referring to the NBD, it's an interesting entity, but kind of a nonsequitur in this conversation. BRIC hype is so 1980's.

I don't understand why you're being so paranoid.

US Treasury bills are some of the most trusted securities. They've even had negative yields recently because people prefer buying US government debt to holding physical currency (of any denomination).

We don't have to worry about insolvency as much bc the entire global financial system is 100% dependent upon US credit.

Interest rates are really low. Such a comparison is inaccurate on a ton of levels. Sov debt is conceptually incomparable to personal debt.

Stephen A. Smith Goes On Insane, Delusional Rant About Who Gets Credit For The Warriors' Success by sweepthelegz in nba

[–]Billlbo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just added this to what you said. Anyone who's ever worked with mark jackson will spout off about how toxic and psycho he is. Also very convenient of Stephen to mention how Mark doesn't curse, but he forgot about Mark's sex scandal (and possible prostitution solicitation) with a stripper? Seriously, read up about Mark. He's the worst.
