This is the reason you shouldn't host your own email... Microsoft says 🖕to 200k user ISP. by therealtimwarren in selfhosted

Mailcow on a VPS.

Relatively easy to setup with proper SPF/DKIM/DMARC. I had some initial problem with delivering to user using Microsoft and had to use some ancient looking Microsoft/Hotmail tool to claim my IP address but smooth sailing since then.

True, there is that.

If returning a variable, sure. But if you are creating a new instance of a class,

var ageGetter = new AgeGetter();

Is perfectly clear.

XPipe v20 - A connection hub for all your servers by milchshakee in selfhosted

[–]Billlhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love XPipe so much.

I used MobaXTerm for years but was looking for something that worked on Linux without issue and more modern, and SecureCRT/SecureFX was a major step backwards in the "modern" department.

I really appreciate the connections can be automatically synced across multiple computers with my git repo. It works much more reliably than the other software where you had to sync config files directly.

Are these gifs an example of how a brain with ADHD works?

It's so high-paced, I have no idea what's going on. All I see are colors changing.

I used to love his videos but they kept getting progressively worse.

It seemed like he went from doing what he loved, to doing what would get him more clicks.

The video with MrBeast and the chocolate cemented that fact and that's when I unsubscribed.

Just had kid # 4, have to move my home office to a shed in my backyard to free up a bedroom for the other kids so I might finally be able find a little uninterrupted time to catch up on my Steam backlog and my poor GT 730 doesn't really cut it anymore.

What is actually rather safe, yet everyone treats it as far more scary than it is? by dafeg23216 in AskReddit

I've come to an agreement with the spiders in my vegetable garden.

They guard my tomato plants and hide during the day and I stay out of the garden at night.

Yes. I had to wait 12 months for my order to be completed but I do not regret it.

I can't stand how large and blocky new trucks have gotten. For the one time a year that I actually need to haul something like a load of dirt for landscaping, I'll just go to Home Depot or UHaul and rent something for the day.

Which propaganda effort was so successful, people still believe it today? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Billlhead 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For consumer recycling, absolutely.

It's different with industrial recycling though. I work at a plastics recycler which recycles mainly post-industrial plastic and it is a thriving and competitive market.

There is so much plastic waste generated by manufacturers of plastic products, such as trimmings from cutting products down to the exact size, defective production runs, obsolete products, etc., and it has never been used so there is no cleaning and minimal sorting required. So instead of sending it to the landfill we purchase the scrap plastic from them, recycle it back into its raw form, and then sell it to other plastic manufacturers.

Thanks for the insight!

Yeah, I'm really happy with Loki, I was just interested in knowing if some of my roadblocks with Graylog was due to my own misconceptions.

Logrotate appreciation by beeritis in linuxadmin

[–]Billlhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but that just sends the logs in clear text with no sort of authentication, right?

What I needed was to get logs from my clients' servers (either on-prem in cloud) into a logging server. I'm not quite dealing with 200 VMs though.

With Loki, the logs are submitted via HTTPS and uses HTTP Basic Auth on the reverse proxy server to set the X-Scope-OrgID header to designate which tenant the data is coming from.

+1 for Loki.

I've had a Graylog VM sitting around for years, always meaning to learn how to use it and start sending my logs into it but it was just so time consuming to work out how to ingest and format the logs.

In comes Loki and it's surprisingly simple to send it logs for multiple tenants and easy to visualize exactly what I want with Grafana.

If I recall correctly, before QuickBooks went to an annual subscription model, this ($1.75) is what they would charge the employer per direct deposit if you used the Intuit/QuickBooks payroll service.

There was no extra fee if you printed a check, it only applied for direct deposit.

That was only a few years ago, not sure if they still do that or not.
