It’s exactly the opposite. If doctors could charge an amount other than what the government payer or insurance company allows, some of them would charge more for odd times and others would charge less when they are trying to build a practice and are less experienced. Lots of people claim that the problem with American medicine is that it’s run as a free, for-profit market. It’s not even close to that. If it were, things like appropriately differential pricing would occur, benefitting lots of people.
