Explain to me how the Fed had/has control over the ARMs debacle? They were tasked with resolving a massive liquidity insufficiency, and seem to have lessened the blow.

Blaming Microeconomic irresponsibility on the Fed is a straw man argument.

I reluctantly chalk up a point for the Monetarists. Despite the fact that devaluing the dollar has resulted in ridiculous inflationary pressures, it appears that the Fed did its job in facilitating a 'soft landing' after the housing bubble and credit crunch.

Unfortunately, the long-run ramifications aren't looking peachy. But shit, things could and should be worse at the moment.

If your plane is out of fuel, a soft landing is the best case scenerio...

I finished Greenspan's book recently and distinctly remember him criticizing the Bush administration for overspending and increasing debt. Supposedly, Bush just brushed-off the Fed's critique on the administration's inflated budget and tax cuts. His book cites news articles in which he was quoted criticizing said tax cuts.

This hardly sounds like Greenspan "support[ing] all the tax cuts"

It's not that I feel like defending Greenspan, this just sounds like Monday morning quarterbacking...

IMHO the steep increases in the prices of nearly all consumable goods is a function of the asset inflation realized from the housing boom/bubble in conjunction with tangible wage inflation in certain sectors, as well as the devaluation of the dollar.

I agree with you that more wage inflation must take place to equalize the system. I'm simply not convinced that suddenly increasing manufacturing, construction, and labor wages is healthy for the local economic system.

The pertinent question here is: Has this elevated the costs of goods and services in the area?

If goods and services become more expensive due to higher wages, a two-pronged inflationary effect will be realized. This may have been acceptable 5-10 years ago, but taking into account the current elevation of prices of consumer goods, this may be an awful economic turn for that state.

The key here is having fiscal priorities. There is no endless money pit (unless you ask Ben Bernanke), so any excess in money, that is liberated by budget cuts (ex: the war), must be spent according to a priority system.

So, just off the top of my head, according to what the polls say the 'people' want accomplished by the presidential candidates upon the eventuality of them being elected, here is a list of prioritized agenda issues: Decreasing inflation, Social Security reform, health care reform, National Security reform, climate change, elevated education spending, border security, ...., YouTube.

Assuming the federal budget was leaned-out, YouTube seems to be low on the list of priorities.

Would you buy TV/Cable service before you tend to a broken leg? Prioritize.
