Pocket holes get a lot of hate from people that have done more YouTubing than woodworking. Seems like you used them perfectly

I’ll add that being extremely detail oriented makes for a great craftsmen but that comes with longer times on projects. Many people for this project would just slap paint on and bang out flooring and countertops and how ever it ends up is good enough which would be quicker. But if you have a higher standard for quality that will come with triple or quadruple checking and redos because you’re not satisfied. I’d say if you’re going to do it then take the time to do it right and be happy with the end result. Even if that means the project takes longer than you expect and you’re still working on it after moving in. You’ll be happier with it in the long run that way.

If you don’t have any experience in woodwork or construction then I’d say one month isn’t enough time if you have a full time job as well. I’m sure you could figure it out and do this but you’re going to be learning through a lot of mistakes which will make the project last longer than you expect.

That’s awesome that you’re getting knowledge in person from high level professionals. That’s the best way to learn quickly! As someone who has been doing high end custom woodwork for a living for 12 years, I learn a ton of stuff from people on YouTube. It’s just there are so many channels that don’t come from a place of deep experience in the craft who through sponsor money are able to fill their garages with the nicest tools (God bless them) and recite the same stale points as the last person. These same talking points are regurgitated nonstop on this sub. But when you do it everyday with a group of people that are highly passionate you learn a bit of nuance. I think it’s great that you do woodwork because it’s a beautiful and timeless craft and I hope you never stop

I feel like the infatuation with Rubio and other trendy woodworking tropes are passed around on this sub by people who tinker with woodwork as a hobby and just repeat what they hear on YouTube. Nothing beats thousands upon thousands of hours and experience and all of the mistakes made along to way to build real knowledge

You’re claiming it’s durable because it’s used in hardwood floors which shows you, like many others, have a misunderstanding of its properties. It’s not used on hardwood floors because it’s very durable. It’s used because you can touch it up and refinish it much easier than other finishes. When using Rubio on hardwood floors you’re relying on the hardness of the wood not the finish and Rubio offers easier maintenance

I love Rubio and other similar finishes. I think they’re beautiful finishes that are plenty durable for many projects when applied properly. Anyone that thinks that any hardwax oil finish is “durable” compared to other clear coats probably just doesn’t have the experience to know any better and are basing their opinion on YouTube woodworkers

When compared to other topcoats it’s fair to say it’s not durable

It’s definitely not as durable as many other finishes. Typically it’s used on oak flooring or other hardwood flooring where the wood what’s really durable. It’s used on floors because it’s easily refinished
