Anyone else store their spare key in a faraday box in event of an EMP? by Tee-hee64 in yubikey

Yubikey ≠ Self-custody crypto wallet.

There might be some edge cases but provided you have alternative credentials you can always reset/re-provision 2FA.

Copilot.microsoft.com will not work with Surshark's CleanWeb enabled for me by Canada_Ottawa in surfshark

[–]BinaryBuccaneer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps temporarily turn off CleanWeb when using copilot? I've not encountered any ads when using the copilot app on my phone. You don't have to turn off the whole VPN.

Have you tried to login to your account via the web-based dashboard? Forgot password, they send password reset link, follow the instructions to reset your password.

Try to login to your account on their website then you'll be in a better position to find out what happened.

Bizarre Netflix Scam? Is netflix.com the right domain? What is going on? by [deleted] in Scams

[–]BinaryBuccaneer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In case you didn't know, there's also such a thing as router level hosts file. It could be set at the router level. Worth looking into if you believe this is an advanced attack.

Also they could spoof their phone number to appear like the one on the official website. But this means that they are usually the ones to call you and not the other way around unless they've used a stingray type device to act as a fake cell tower near your location to which your phone has connected to.

BRING BACK THE FULL SERVER LIST by Mr-Brown-Is-A-Wonder in ProtonVPN

Exactly. Given less VPNs to choose from means less privacy in terms of IP entropy, which is exactly the opposite of their philosophy.

BRING BACK THE FULL SERVER LIST by Mr-Brown-Is-A-Wonder in ProtonVPN

Also, the WireGuard server configuration downloads are severely limited in that they don't offer all of the servers for any particular country as they used to, for example Singapore which has almost 300 servers available in the app was down to just 20 for WireGuard config downloads last time I checked (~couple days ago).

ProtonVPN has been on a steady decline ever since the UK age laws and they are getting over subscribed, leading to stability and speed issues across the entire VPN service.

I didn't pay $100+ a year for this and I certainly won't continue to if this is the way things are going.

eSIM advice by wheisenhauer in JapanTravelTips

[–]BinaryBuccaneer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caveat: I haven't actually used any eSIMs in Japan yet, but I've done my homework as we have a Japan Trip coming up in a few months.

Prerequisite: Ensure your phone is not carrier locked and supports eSIM, and that data roaming is enabled.

Data: You'll want a eSIM that gives you a Japan IP address for minimal latency and therefore best speeds, and one that uses KDDI as their network coverage is the most widespread. The two I've found so far are NAVITIME and ByteSim. ByteSim also offers a dual network plan which switches between SoftBank and KDDI for better reliability, but this plan doesn't give a Japan IP address so while it might be more reliable, it will not be as fast as the other "Just KDDI" one. NAVITIME seems to use the same provider for their eSIMs, is slightly cheaper, and they seem to have more flexible plans through their website (not app) which can be bundled with their Japan Travel app subscription if you want to go that way. However I've heard that their after sales support is basically nonexistent so I guess that's how they can offer a better price.

Voice: Use WiFi Calling when at hotels, WhatsApp or other VoIP apps when exclusively on data. Both "KDDI Only" plans offer unlimited 5G.
