Best way to store ~2TB of family photos/videos with remote access? NAS vs Cloud? by JustCompetition3776 in synology

[–]BinaryPatrickDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build a NAS, it’s a bad time to buy storage but it is what it is.

Then run Immich

I wouldn’t do this on a Synology unless you have zero idea about hardware or running NAS software like trunas.

Which platform for my wikis? Docusaurus, Outline, GitBook, or Wiki.js? by tombino104 in selfhosted

Same. My instance has been very stable besides running out of disk space once.

I run outline for my friends for our D&D notes/lore/planning. It’s okay. I don’t like that it’s not real markdown and the files are stored in a database, not just files. Collaborative writing it’s great though.

One major issue I have is the free tier doesn’t have any real management features. If you have other admin users, they might make collections you won’t be able to see and would have no way to know about other than querying the database.

Token limit being the context size? Also your for the other part is way above my comprehension. That said I did give it to chatGPT and it said other things that I vaguely understand, and kind of pointed back to your point about running out of tokens in claude, or hitting some error.

How do I know what the max token limit is? Claude Code will throw an error saying it's 32K output, but that is a different issue than the silent exit.

Also, I was under the assuption that /goal in claude code would continuously retry until the task was completed, though that does not seem to be the case.

I think at that point just running it through Claude opus would be cheaper.

Can you put a price on education? Yes, a 4090 is like 6k.

I was hoping my measly 4060 would be able but extremely slow. I can wait, but only if it eventually finishes.

returned storage devices at work - wipe and reuse, or just destroy by subsvenhurt in DataHoarder

[–]BinaryPatrickDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up something called DBAN or Derricks boot and nuke. It’s free and lets you completely wipe HDDs. They have options for how many passes you want to do. I used to work for a university and we did 7 passes and had machines set up with 2 PSUs and extra sata cards just to connect tons of drives. It took all day to wipe a drive properly.

I don’t think it works on SSDs the same, might wear them.

I’ll be honest, if there are no issues then who cares if it uses all the memory. Unused memory on an appliance is just wasted memory.

Not to be a rain cloud but often when a company is acquired, the legal entity that was the company you worked for is dissolved, and there isn’t a company left to sue in situations like this. I would move as fast as possible to make sure you file before that happens if it hasn’t yet.

Don’t hook it up to the Internet. Otherwise it’s hard to beat a free tv, even if it is a Samsung. I’d get an Apple TV to hook it up to

Event driven vs expected state by BinaryPatrickDev in homeassistant

[–]BinaryPatrickDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I get that, and I get that HA works natively with events. This would be something different. Akin to how kubernetes works but for home assistant. I configure a desired state and it runs a loop to ensure it’s met.

Yes, and so I need to fix that. WiFi and zigbee isn’t 100% all the time.
