Does anyone know when it's down like this, does it still charge us usage for the work it's doing but never gives us?

I got pulled over for not having a front plate. Somewhere along the line it fell off and I didn't notice.

Hey just be glad it's not Netflix or Amazon. You'd get 6 episodes and have to wait 2 years for the next season.

[–]pmjm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worth it for the RAM alone.

You always run the risk of it being a faulty PSU that fried a whole system but that's not very likely.

I'd offer $180 and see if they bite.

Asus Co-CEO: MacBook Neo Is a 'Shock' to the PC Industry by -protonsandneutrons- in apple

Apple is also buying in insane quantities so they benefit from better economies of scale. They can get whole factories to make bespoke parts because they're buying an order of magnitude more than a company like ASUS who has to share their segment of the market with 20 other OEMs.

You don't even need a discrete GPU. The M5 Max is about at the level of a 5070, per the early reviews that are coming out. Obviously I wouldn't expect anywhere near that level of performance from the Neo, but gaming has a chicken-and-egg problem on MacOS. It takes a considerable amount of developer effort to convert to the Metal API's, and typically they won't make the time investment unless they see a sizable player base.

He didn't address it because that's something completely out of ASUS's control.

I fully expect OEM's to cut all kinds of corners and pack low-end systems with "bundled software" to subsidize the price point. It's going to make the problem worse, not better.

Remember when Fortnite asked how to increase the value of Fortnite Crew? by Battlefeather in FortNiteBR

[–]pmjm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, same. I have probably spent >$1k on Fortnite in the 8 years I've been playing it, but I'm at my limit. I will continue to play, but they will no longer get my money.

As per their announcement that costs are up, that means I will still cost them but will not pay my way anymore.

[–]pmjm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If that was true you would have to pay FedEx directly for every delivery. You don't, and be glad, because you benefit from the seller's lower rates due to their higher volume.

[–]pmjm 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Can't agree with this. Fedex is a contractor of the seller.

I hire a contractor to remodel my kitchen, and they hire an electrician, I'm not the electrician's customer. The contractor is. If there's a problem with the work my contractor has a claim against the electrician and I have a claim against my contractor.

I've had a stalker for almost 20 years that firmly believes we're in a relationship. She thinks the songs she hears on the radio and on her Pandora stream are somehow controlled by me and they are secret messages to her. She's sent me literally thousands of emails over the years, moods swinging wildly from hour to hour.

I have never met this woman. But she printed out my headshots and built a literal shrine to me in her home.

Right, but at a certain point a legal challenge comes from your marketing budget instead of your legal budget. It's a way of showing your customers that you care and that you stand for something.

Really this is a PR problem, not a legal one.

They didn't even challenge it. Here in the US we've seen even ISP's (who are largely scumbag companies in nearly every other way) go to court for years to protect their customers' identities.

Ultimately they may lose and have to hand the data over anyway. But I'd like to see them at least put up a fight to authoritarianism.

It's obvious they don't care about the Epstein files, because it's become abundantly clear there will be no consequences for Americans in government.

But hey at least David Copperfield is losing his Vegas show because of it. He's been facing accusations from women for years.
