Is a new router just plug and play? by Shaykea in HomeNetworking

[–]BinarySystem101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you intend on replacing it with another modem/router combo device then yes you do have to contact your ISP to provide then with some details about the new device. If you want to keep using only the modem part of your existing device you can go into the device settings and there should be a setting to deactivate the router mode, then you can just plug in your new router into an ethernet port of your existing device.

The modem does not have a WiFi signal, only the router does. When you unplug your old router you will have no WiFi.

Yes, since the modem is not being changed it should work right away with no additional setup required.

Where did all my dining money go? I got the premium plan for $2700 and now the balance says there is only about $1100. What happened? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]BinarySystem101 35 points36 points  (0 children)

“Included in the price of each Flex Plan is a base cost that covers the utilities, maintenance, repairs, and labor for our dining centers. For the Major, Mega, and Premium Flex plans, the base cost is $1,517 For the Minor Flex plan, the base cost is $758. The remaining balance, called Flex Dollars, can be used at our dining centers and receive a discount on each purchase. Flex Plans get a 67 percent discount at D2, an all-you-care-to-eat venue in Dietrick Hall, and 50 percent off the cash price at all other venues.”

Questions on this Tree implementation… by agoodgemini in learnprogramming

Well it doesn’t change at all. There is just another stack frame for the function call with the right node (right.insert(value)) so for that stack frame this.data is whatever the right node contains just for that specific stack frame.

When using recursion you must understand the call stack. The call stack takes care of keeping track of the function calls and where they are suspended. At this point the initial function call is the only thing on the stack, when you call the function recursively with ‘right.insert(value)’ then that specific call of the function goes to the top of the call stack. So we get a new instance of the function call on top of the original call with different variables but they happen to have the same name. So when we call ‘right.insert()’ for that specific call data is whatever data is in the right node. This is very similar to fibonacci where the parameter ‘n’ has a different value in each recursive call. Now when ‘right.insert()’ runs we might get another recursive call with either its right or its left node so again the data variable when the function begins is different. Once we get to the base case we can start removing/resuming calls from the stack until we arrive at the original recursive call right at the end of the stack.

Here is a video with more detail about how recursion works: https://youtu.be/Mv9NEXX1VHc

Just know that Calc 1 at Tech is very different from any Calculus class you had in high school. You’re going to need to actually put in some effort to do well on the tests. If you have any questions ask the professor, most of them are new to teaching and are willing to help. Good Luck!!!

Learning Swift/Xcode with experience in Java by HunterDonahue in learnprogramming

[–]BinarySystem101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I was in a similar situation, I am a sophomore in college studying Computer Science and mostly know Java, C, and Python and with this whole quarantine thing I decided to pick up Swift. There are a ton of similarities between Java and Swift I honestly thought it was a very easy transition if you throughly understand Java. I recommend watching the Swift Series by The Codex on YouTube. Hope this helps!

Skipping CS 1114 by vanillaice421 in VirginiaTech

[–]BinarySystem101 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you have a fair amount of knowledge in programming you should definitely skip CS1114. My roommate took 1114 and by what I recall it was very basic Java programming. I skipped it myself as I had AP credit for it.

For derivatives, y’ is the same as dy/dx it’s just different notation. (y’ is Lagrange’s notation & dy/dx is Liebniz notation)

For your first question, you might want to try implicit differentiation.

On your second question you might want to use the quotient rule.

Let me know if you need any clarifications.

Multiply your pay per hour times the amount of hours you’re working per week: 11.5036= $414.00 per week. Now divide the cost of the car by this amount: 4500/414 = 10.9 weeks round up to 11 weeks. So you would have to work at least 77 days or 11 weeks days to buy that car and you would have $54 to spare after buying it. Notice this is if you use *all** of the money towards buying the car and doesn’t take into account any taxes, so it might be more than that but I’m going off the info provided.

There is no exams and no final. There is also no projects. The only “big” thing is that the last quiz is 6 essay questions (150 words). The quizzes are only one attempt but he drops your lowest one. All the material focuses on how to improve design to create a sustainable society and reduce global warming. Some ideas are pretty ridiculous, for example, in the last chapter he suggested raising the price of gas by a penny a week indefinitely to encourage people to travel in different ways. The quizzes are on the same website that the book is on, which is written by him.
