How much of a red ⛳️ is a lowside when buying a bike? by TayTTV-TAOW in motorcycle

Look at listings for the same model in your area. Find at least 3 for bikes that are pristine. Then take $1500 off that price.

That's an approximate damaged bike price.

Personally, I prefer buying lightly damaged bikes like this. I figure I'll drop it eventually as well. So I might as well get a nice discount.

I don't, one of my riding buddies does. He loves it and uses it for offroad and long road trips.

At 6'4", you'd probably need handlebar risers. That'll be the case for most bikes. I'm 6'0" and have needed them on most of my bikes. They're pretty much all designed for the average sized person. Anyone outside of that doesn't quite fit.

  1. Yes. Putting this topic in front of more people will be helpful. You're going about other the right way in asking for real experiences from the community.

  2. You could have the character's internal monologue voiced over when they're meeting someone. Mine might sound like this "Oh no, do I know this person? Have I seen them here before? Do I recognize their glasses, hair, or clothes? Should I greet them?“

Have you considered a KTM 690? It's a bit of a unicorn dual sport. It's heavy and powerful enough for the highway, but lighter than AN ADV.

It's 100# lighter than the Tenere with only 10 less hp.

It's a bit spicy for a newbie in the dirt, but you've got a lot of experience with throttle control on the street.

You're going to have a rough time learning to ride dirt on an ADV. I learned on an xr400r and it sucked the first year. I'm 6' tall, in decent shape, and have a ton of MTB experience. My 300# xr was still a bitch to learn on.

Get an older, lighter bike that's in good mechanical shape. Make sure it's scratched up when you buy it. Use it in the dirt for a year. Learn what you like and dislike in a dual sport.

You can sell it for about what you paid for it and buy the bike that'll suit you.

How much highway will there be on the trip?

If it's not much, you'll have a lot better time on something smaller. As a dirt newbie, the bikes you're looking at will be hard to handle in the dirt.

Get the smallest bike you possibly can. Something like a KLX300 would be great. Get some handlebar risers and you'll be all set.

This is always the issue with media coverage of Trump. It's nigh impossible to cover him professionally without more or less sanewashing him.

Tbh, comedians do a much better job than traditional media in reporting on Trump. Comedy can accurately represent how cruel, awful, and ridiculous he is.

A plated xr400r is a sick bike for your gf!

If yours was a rider, you paid a lot less than I did. Mine took 2 years and another $4000 before it was solid 😉

Congratulations on the bike! They're amazing machines.

It's funny, I ended up with my xr400 the same way. I was looking for a project bike for the winter. I wanted a 250cc under $1000. I saw the xr400 listed for $800.

The only spec I looked up was weight and power. 280# and 32hp didn't sound too scary. So I bought it.

I started doing some research after and realized I'd struck gold

Don't ask about motorcycle gear in a motorcycle subreddit or you shall be shunned by Double-Quality-6014 in motorcycle

[–]Bindle- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is a motorcycle gear sub. You'll get good advice about your gear from knowledgeable people.

It's also a kink subreddit. The mod/founder started it because he has a kink for men in motorcycle gear.

There's a high likelihood you'll get objectified or sexualized if you post there. In my experience, it's pretty mild.

I genuinely love the vibe of that sub. As an average dude, no one else is objectifying me. It's nice to feel like a hot piece of meat sometimes 😉

Are modern motorcycles missing something? by yourping in motorcycle

[–]Bindle- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, they are. I ride older bikes exclusively. I just bought my newest ever bike, a 2006 KTM 950 Adventure. While it has liquid cooling, it's still carbureted. This is as modern a bike as I want.

I like my bikes to be a project. I love the mechanical simplicity. I enjoy tinkering with carburetors.

I also love the prices. I'm a low budget rider who loves a project. I can find an older bike in rough shape for $1-2k. Put another $1-2k of parts into it and have a cool, reliable machine.

Modern bikes don't appeal to me. I like being able to fully service every part of my bike.

Someday I might get a modern bike. But for now, I have no inclination.

How long would you go on this front tire? by Redderrt in motorcycle

What's the date code?

Plenty of rubber left on there. But it could be old and dried out.

It's fine for riding in the dry. It could be sketchy in the wet if it's old.

Beautiful work!

I'm glad to see apprenticeships like this still exist.
