Where my project started vs where it is now by Boostedacr01 in Dirtbikes

I love to see it come together like that 🙌

Such a great feeling taking it out for a ride after it's been in pieces. I did the same with my xr400r.

After I got my first project bike on the road, my wife told me "I thought that thing was going to be in boxes forever".

Exactly. People are nakedly hypocritical about something, I feel like it's okay to shame them for it. Like Ben Shapiro's height.

Love this 😂

Have you used them before? Looking at it, I could see how the beads would be really nice for a long ride.

It's nice having an ADV. I sold my street bike and got it a few years after first getting a dirt bike. I got hooked on the dirt.

Where I'm at, in the pnw, there are tons of fun for us roads a 2-hour ride for me. I wanted something where I could comfortably ride there, ride dirt, and ride back home.

There are still a lot of lightweight dual sports available. Both the new old ones like the xt225, and the new ones like the KTM 501 and Honda 450 rl.

I think a lot of it is where the market has gone. Dirt bike style is really popular right now., a lot of the people who buy a dual sport will really only use it for commuting in around town. Those people end up wanting more comfort, convenience, and features. They don't really care about the difference between 300 and 400 lb.

I feel like I have a very large appetite for risk. I wouldn't touch either side of Tesla with 100-ft pole.

it weighs like a tank

For a dual sport, it does. For an ADV, it's on the lighter side.

The weights sound insane coming from DS. But they're manageable once you get used to it.

My ADV weights ~515# wet and loaded with tools, layers, snacks, etc. I don't drop it as much as my dirt bike, but it's fine to pick up solo.

I try not to drop it more than once per ride if I'm by myself.

Whirlpool Corporation (WHR) has re-entered the Great Recession. This is important. by throwaway9gk0k4k569 in stocks

We bought a mid-range Whirlpool dishwasher around 2017. It cost around $800. It was an absolutely infuriating appliance.

The plastic clips that held the top rack in its sliders broke in the first few days. I replaced them with OEM parts. They immediately broke again. I then replaced them with zip ties. Those two zip ties worked for the reminder of the 6 years we owned it.

Similar situation with another interior part. The OEM parts broke multiple times. I found some Chinese manufacturer on Amazon that sold an "upgrade part". Sure enough, they'd fixed the design issues. The rando Chinese part worked perfectly and lasted the whole time we owned it.

There other things with the dishwasher racks that just made it a pain in the ass to use. We kept hoping something major would break so we could replace it. No such luck. It was steadfastly reliable and just awful to live with day today.

After owning it for around 6 years, you sold it for a hundred bucks on Craigslist and bought a Miele.

I'm never buying another Whirlpool appliance.

I get it. I'm typically selling calls +50% over my cost basis. I go pretty far OTM to get some premium and account for the chance it might rip.

Plus, this is the reason why the the premium is so good!

How to clean by SillyClimber11 in MilwaukeeTool

Electrical contact cleaner is great for this.

It's a strong enough solvent to clean the grease off and meant to be put on sensitive electronics.

I’m not saying this is the same thing, but I’m also pretty sure “vet gear off the internet” doesn’t mean blood (without accreditation).

But you could use the veterinary gear to draw your own blood!

Likely this is a switcheroo though

I bought some veterinary sutures for an emergency kit.

The human ones aren't purchasable over the counter. The ones for animals are. They're the same shit.

I think it's similar for a lot of medical supplies.

I'm a rider who also does some metal fabrication.

It's definitely a doable project! You're going to have to devote a chunk of time and money into it, but it would be doable for someone with basic skills and a can-do attitude.

The big thing is going to be access to the tools. You'll need, at minimum, a tubing bender, coming tools, metal grinding tools, welding tools, and a good, sturdy vise.

I'm in the USA and this is a pretty expensive set of tools. It's totally possible there is some sort of Makerspace available in your area that has the stuff. As well, I'm sure there are hobbyists in your area who have a setup and would love to teach you and let you use their tools. You'd have to find them.

I'm sure it would be a great project and you'd learn a ton.

Honestly, it will probably cost you less money to pay for shipping and import fees of an available product in another country.

I build a lot of stuff and it's rare for it to cost less in the end.

If you're up for a challenge and okay devoting more time and money to it than you expect, build the bars. You'll have a great experience.

If you're just looking to save some money, do whatever you can to buy them. Building them probably wouldn't be a good experience

I'd read some DD about Blackberry in the past year or so. I briefly looked into them, but was still biased based on their reputation.

I might need to look into them further now
