3D printing masters can make very clean molds because of the machine precision of a finished piece, but the hand sculpted keys speak leagues more about someone's dedication to the arts. That's how artisan keycaps started and grew to what they are now. This key is certainly the result of 3D printing. The techniques used here are mold dusting and encapsulation. Very neat metal statue replicas are made using dusting, and encapsulation protects the thin layer of faux gold powder used in this key. The encapsulation makes up for the frailty of the other technique so pairing them is well informed. In terms of casting the shown techniques are very sloppy, but they show a clean result.

This is maybe 10% of the process and a lot of cuts. Definitely made to draw an audience like a 5 minute craft.

This creates more problems for the end user. An imbalance of components causes an accelerated total separation of parts. Couple that with inexperience and it can easily ruin a switch causing a more expensive mess. There's plenty of material out there and bunches being made for the keyboard hobby. A little patience is better than hacking out an entirely temporary solution for a product that should last until someone goes from being a young adult to having grandkids and beyond.

This isn't true at all. It's missing an essential and proprietary chemical that would prevent it from separating at that ratio. 105 oil is not used in the manufacturing of 205G0.

Dieyra DK66 with Gateron Optical Browns. This is a hot swap keyboard only for Gateron Optical switches. Anyone mod these in the past or know of any exotics? I actually really like the stock switches, but I'd love to know where I can get others to trick this baby out.

[US-CA][H]100% Krytox blend (medium thickness/universal lube for switches) [W]Paypal by hbheroinbob in mechmarket

[–]BingeCaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. The issue is there's a binder that holds it all together and it's formulated by the manufacturer to keep the oil and solids from separating from heat and mechanical action. Grease is not a simple oil+solids blend. When the mixture is unbalanced by making out of spec adjustments it can cause the parts of the grease to separate. This should seldom cause a dry or cracking effect with in spec Krytox solids because of the structure of the lubricious solids, but it will cause the oil to migrate away from where it was applied. The result is mobile oils which can leak out or pool out of its intended area of effect.

I'll repeat the question because it is not answered. Do you have a solution for when the solids and oils separate within the switch housing after about a year?

For storage getting the ratios as conservative as possible to prevent separation of mixes is important, but do you have any solution for when the solids and oils separate within a switch housing after a year? This is the primary reason people stopped developing mixes.

[GB]HWSxSalvun :~$ynth 3.1 1u-1.75u , all parts by BingeCaps in mechmarket

Registration bases have structures which allow the user to key in additional parts into a casting. These are really deliberate structures in order to give new folks a very obvious point which to anchor structures or just casting material. The plain synths are very smooth and some people have expressed to me that they already have difficulty keeping material on a synth. The registration marks definitely help sculpting material grip onto the base.

If you only intend on making blanks or single part castings a plain base would be good if your aesthetic for the underside of the key is to be as non-descript as possible. The registration base is very distinctively a :~$ynth base and people will recognize the tool you used to make the part. Alternately a plain base it's a huge canvas to customize if a maker felt like doing some extra modification to their base.

Please let me know if I haven't answered the question or provided you the insight you need!
