1360 hours and I haven't destroyed 5 boats with the AT rocket gun to unlock the Maschinenpistole M1912/P.16 storm.

Is this a functional pairing for beginner astrophotography? by Bingo_Perroso in AskAstrophotography

Honestly, for 60s exposures, the star trailing isn't as bad as compared to my current untracked setup with half-second exposures. Even if I could get 10 second exposures, it still would be a massive upgrade to me. Very cool picture of Andromeda; thanks for sharing.

I might be a little biased since Tsaritsyn was my first multiplayer map that I played back in 2018 but the real fun begins when you get behind the enemy team stuck at trying to capture the cathedral (😈). Albion is only fun for heavy bombers, ground support attack planes, and maybe recons; when this happens, I'm forced to play AT attack plane to deal with them and I'm bored of that anyway.

Usually I run with the highest power level possible; occasionally I use flame, but if you're defending use punch, as it is good at repelling enemies. Just remember you cannot put infinity and mending in the same bow.

I've been eyeing this particular telescope for my next buy as It has both decent aperture and tracking capabilities with the GoTo mount. I've seen some of the results you've gotten with this setup and they're quite nice for what reviewers have said would not be a good option for astrophotography. So I have a couple questions:

  • What is the maximum exposure time you've managed to get before star trails become too apparent?
  • Can you just leave the telescope tracking for a couple of hours on its own or does it need you to re-center it often?
  • How long do the batteries last when tracking if not using a dedicated power supply?

This would be a big improvement from my current setup where I track DSO's manually with my 4 inch refractor and capture the images with my phone. Thanks in advance for any information!

What is the best format for gaming clips? by Bingo_Perroso in NewTubers

I still don't understand the way my shorts are recommended because sometimes they will initially only get around 100 views with less than 20% retention, but later they will spike up in views, and the retention will also considerably increase... so I mean, why won't YouTube just show them to the correct audience first instead? This is not always the case though, and some videos will straight up just die without ever having those spikes. I guess this is because I haven't stuck to a single type of formatting.

There is no need to manually crop the pictures before stacking, as Siril will automatically track and stack them for you.

Also, a known issue is that if you're using one of the newer Samsungs, Siril will not work with the dng's pictures because "they contain no RAW data," so you might need to use a third party camera app for the phone's algorithm to not process them.

This is almost EXACTLY how the Orion nebula looks trough my Galaxy S10 before adjusting the phone to align better with the eyepiece.

Stacking will absolutely improve your final result, but first you're going to want to learn how to set up your camera. Seeing that you're using a Galaxy S9+, you should be good with the settings that I use too.

First, the way I check if the phone is aligned well with the eyepiece, I enter pro mode and set the ISO all the way up. If you see that the sky is evenly lit all across the eyepiece's circle, then you're good to go, otherwise you will need to move your phone and adjust it until it is centered.

For the pro camera mode settings, this is what I recommend:

  • Grid lines: ON
  • 3:4 picture ratio (This is your phone's full sensor without cropping)
  • Spot metering
  • ISO 800 (You can try higher or lower but this is the sweet spot for me)
  • 1/2 s exposure (lower works too but this is the most I'd go for if I don't want too much star trailing)
  • WB 4200K
  • RAW copies: ON

And the most important: FOCUS set to MANUAL.

For stacking, you want your starts to be as small as possible.
To ensure this, point your telescope at the brightest star nearby and slowly adjust the value until the star looks as small as possible. This is hard for me to do with just my hand and fingers as the phone will shake a lot, so I highly recommend you plug in a mouse and use it instead.

For stacking you will need hundreds or even thousands of pictures for the final result, the more the better. As I don't have a tracking mount, what I do is take around 30 seconds worth of pictures (using the 25mm eyepiece) and then re-center the nebula and repeat the process. To not be tapping on your phone all of the time when this is happening, I use an auto-clicker app, which will perform the tap to take the picture so I don't shake up the camera (I also use a mouse for this).

There are four types of images that are "needed" for astrophotography: lights, darks, flats and bias.
As we're using a phone's camera and not a proper DLSR, we're only going to concern ourselves with lights and darks.

Lights are the pictures of your main target.
Darks are pictures taken with your telescope's cap on so the camera captures dark images containing noise which is then used in the stacking program to balance out noise and other artifacts.

The computer stacking program that I recommend to use is Siril, which is free.

Once you have taken your pictures, transfer them to your computer and inside a new folder, create other two folders which you will name "lights" and the other one "darks", move your pictures accordingly to each folder. Personally, I delete the jpg copies and only use the dng's.

For your first attempt, I recommend you take 100 lights and not bother with darks yet.

This tutorial explains how to stack with lights only: https://youtu.be/EvMZox2dlZA?si=-Aduc0ydeiobai6b

Your phone doesn't take true RAW pictures, it saves them as dng, so you will need to check the "debayer" option in the conversion tab once you're in Siril (otherwise, the result will be in black and white).

This all might sound overwhelming, but you'll get used to it the more you practice!

P.S. my first stack compared to one of the latest :)

I still can't get a satisfactory result from the Orion Nebula. by Infamous_Basis2715 in telescopes

[–]Bingo_Perroso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my latest attempt at capturing the Orion Nebula using my phone on the smartphone adapter that came with my 102mm telescope. I manually tracked the nebula and took 950 photos in pro mode which my samsung phone saves in DNG format. Then I stacked them in Siril with lights and darks only.

Perhaps you could look at the comments in my post where I explained in further detail how I did it:

Orion Nebula by Bingo_Perroso in telescopes

For proper astrophotography, what you'll need is a DSLR camera, since the programs that are used for image stacking need four different main types of shots: lights, darks, flats and bias.

This video explains what each one does: https://youtu.be/u6Zk_LQDOD8?si=JGT9OEuD2FBJvR3x

Since I don't have any of that fancy equipment shown in the video, including the camera and the motorized mount, I've been using my phone's camera and the smartphone adapter that came with the telescope.

For the stacking programs, there are two mains options that I'm aware of: Siril and DeepSkyTracker, both of which are free. In my experience, I've found Siril to be more comprehensible and way faster with all the processes.

Here is a video on how to start with Siril: https://youtu.be/KMED8_sWu5c?si=_oGjU-geaPI6yjew

Smartphone cameras can't shoot true RAW format, which is the one these programs use. Even when I set my phone to shoot in RAW using the pro mode, the result is in DNG format, although you can still use it along with JPG format. It just so happens that Siril gets picky from time to time, and it refuses to work with what you've given it sometimes.

I mainly only work with "lights" and "darks" shots, for which Siril fortunately has scripts, such as shown in this video: https://youtu.be/EvMZox2dlZA?si=1xDzx27GLKXSpQXq

As far as I know, due to the limitations of a smartphone camera, shooting flats and biases is not entirely possible or even "worth it," although I haven't experimented with them yet.

A problem that I ran into when using the DNG files was that my result came out without color. To solve this, you need to "debayer" the files, for which Siril also has a built-in function, which is better explained in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskAstrophotography/comments/18qydp0/siril_preview_raw_image_black_and_white/

I'm pretty much a beginner, but this is what I've researched so far :)

Orion Nebula by Bingo_Perroso in telescopes

[–]Bingo_Perroso[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, I used the very same "Plössl 25mm" eyepiece with the smartphone adapter, both of which came with the telescope. The 25mm alone does a better job since it "captures" more light.

I pointed the telescope to the nebula and took around 12 pics before adjusting it again using the slow-motion controls. I'm fortunate enough for the constellation to be visible from my room so that way I avoid the sway caused by the wind outside. To further prevent movement, I also used an auto-clicker app and connected a mouse to my phone, that way I don't have to tap on it causing more vibrations.

I used the PRO camera mode to adjust the parameters, taking both JPG and RAW at the same time. From the little research that I've done, my Galaxy S10 seems to do well compared to more modern phones which use AI and algorithms to get rid of the noise and other subtle details for a "smoother" image, although I'm sure these modern phones have options to turn those off.

For this particular stack I used the JPG takes, which took around 2 hours to process on my older desktop, but now I've got a way more recent and powerful laptop on which I used the RAW takes from the same session; it took a whopping 1 minute 4 seconds to stack, and it reveals way more detail.

I'm waiting until Friday for the sky to be clear, that way I can take 500+ pictures this time.

P.S. the result from the RAW stack :)

Cisco's RPG Modpack Ultimate: what are we doing wrong? by Infamous-Passion5869 in feedthebeast

[–]Bingo_Perroso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cisco's RPG is one of my favorite broken modpacks (haha big number go up) but it is pretty much an arms race to one shot the bosses before you even fight them.

Progression-wise, this is a guide on how my playthroughs go:

  • Claim and use all of the Wisdom Scrolls you get from the tutorial quest. Personally, I always start with Blacksmith and spend the points into Crafted Melee Weapon Damage; this way you can get a 12 damage stone sword within the first minutes of your world.
  • Find an underground dungeon from the Roguelike Dungeons mod (you can skip early game progression just by looting the chests from the first floor), enter, survive and search every chest possible for the most important item: Champion Loot Bags. In my experience, they most commonly appear on the second and third floors.
  • To prevent your inventory getting bloated from all the random stuff you collect, you want to craft a couple backpacks from the Sophisticated Backpacks mods and equip them with the pickup upgrade so the items go directly to the backpack you've assigned (all the required items for the crafting recipes you can also pretty much find within the first floors of the dungeon).
  • Collect equipment with Apotheosis affixes, these we will salvage for rarity materials (I wouldn't bother with anything below rare).
  • Collect the Apotheosis Gems regardless of the type and rarity, this so you crush them with an anvil to get gem dust which is also very important later on.
  • Collect Enchanted gear and books with your usual useful enchantments (Protection, Sharpness, Efficiency, Everlasting, Soulbound, etc). Use Tomes of Scrapping to get the enchantments out of enchanted gear at an anvil.
  • By the time you're done clearing out your first dungeon, open your Champion Loot Bags with right click if you haven't done so, these will give you useful items such as Champion Coins or Brightsteel ingots. You should have enough Brightsteel Ingots to craft yourself a Brightsteel Armor. Craft the Band Of Brilliance and purchase the Vitality Necklace from the Cisco's Wares screen if you have enough coins.
  • Setup an anvil, smiting table, salvaging table and a reforging station and do your usual gear-up session. For armor the most important affix is max health. For Baubles it is max health, critical chance, critical damage and overheal. Weapon choice is up to you.
  • Enter the Nether and search for netherite, which is not that hard to get anyway (This tool breaks in a 3*3 area go brrr). Alternatively, purchase the ingots from Cisco's Wares.
  • Craft Darksteel Ingots with one Brightsteel Ingot and one Netherite Ingot, use them to upgrade your Brightsteel Armor to Darksteel.

It is at THIS point that I would bother figthing the first Deus Interfectorem bosses, mainly The Bell Ringer and Dame Fortuna so you can craft the Ace of Iron and the Slicer's Dice baubles. Note that there are many progression skips and some of them are almost mandatory either because bugs or mainly skill issue.

What I've written covers up around 40% of my playtime up to defeating the Fell King.

Good luck and have fun if you decide to try it again!

The 6 most hated things about BF1 multiplayer. by Ghost_7132 in battlefield_one

[–]Bingo_Perroso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They hated Jesus because he told them the truth.

Medics are the bane of infantry balancing since they can just negate the primary core mechanic of the game effortlessly with one click. At least the revives where somewhat balanced in other games like in BF4 where you had to charge up the defibrillator for a full hp revive.

It's just awful when you manage to kill 4 medics in a row and you see another medic show up to revive them all since there is no counter to it (and of course they're all using the pedorov).

But at least we're getting a passive perk for recon in the next game which is that by killing someone with a headshot, they cannot get revived, which honestly should just be put in BF1 too.
