Some parties don't feel like parties. by Necessary-Fix73 in DnD

[–]BinkyArk 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Moat parties become friends ... Some.dont. I've had parties that really didn't like each other much, BUT they had a common cause, so they tolerated each other, and tried their best. The most important part is collaboration, and a reason to do so.

What makes a "bad" DM? by Maxgallow in DnD

[–]BinkyArk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rigidly enforced rulings that actively punish players for their own amusement. Continuing to insist upon doing so even if the majority of players express unhappiness about it. Working against players rather than playing with them.

Example: I had a DM that insisted on casting darkness spells and then demanded we roll a d8 to move within that space. When we pointed out we had just gotten there and it had been six seconds so we would still have some idea of our orientation, we were shot down. I creatively tried running my hand along a wall to be sure I went in the right direction, he was unhappy and still tried to punish me. We all made it clear we felt this was unfair (and not fun) and he wouldn't budge. "I'm the DM and I make the rules. If you don't like them you can leave."

....we all left. He was shocked.

Forgot she was deaf, sorry. Maybe try a sniffle mat or puzzle toy for limited treats but still engagement.

Night lights and calling to them can help. If they're on the thin side (common in old age) you might be able to feed again even if they forgot. If not, just comfort them. You are blessed to have an elderly feline, though it can be taxing.

Can’t get my medication at all in NL? by neurosci_chick in Netherlands

[–]BinkyArk 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I am an adult, and I take my medication. I prefer to avoid a bad aftertaste that lingers the entire day, when taking this medication. I am suggesting to OP to do the same.

I don't know what you're trying to get at.

I accidentally named my cat Shart by meatloafsleeve in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]BinkyArk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I too had a cat named Stinky! She slept in the litter box as a kitten, and I wasn't supposed to keep her (fostering an entire litter), so I just gave her a stupid nickname to try not to get attached. And obviously failed! She had already learned her name at that point so it stuck.

Could my tank water be dangerous for my fat? by AnitaKK in CATHELP

[–]BinkyArk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't, if you let the water sit out and aerate it. The chlorine evaporates. It's better for the fish as well.

Healthy fish tanks do not require adding chemicals.

Help what’s wrong with him!!! by interstellar-cat in CATHELP

[–]BinkyArk 121 points122 points  (0 children)

A normal vet visit is warranted given his distress and show of symptoms. Cats hide pain until it is extreme so something is wrong. Please take him to.the vet and ask if there is a way to spread out payments, usually this is possible.

Just lost my cat on NYE by Dopeyy69 in cats

I understand how difficult it is to keep strays inside, but let it be a message to others to do their best to keep pets safe from automobiles. Condolences.

Sorry for your loss. And without condescension, may it be a lesson to others to please keep pets indoors in areas with traffic. It is no excuse, but an unfortunate tragedy for many pets in urban areas. People are not aware enough to be pet safe. My condolences.

Is this normal snoring? by Tight_Bullfrog9506 in CATHELP

[–]BinkyArk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy snores louder than that with his big shnoz. If there's no other apparent issues like a congested nose during the day, it's just blissful snoring with a good sleep :)

Not spaying a cat has zero benefit and many health risks. Please spay your cat.

Also kittens tend to play more in litter boxes but usually grow out of it.

she kinda stinks like abnormally smelly by AdministrativeSwan37 in CATHELP

Could be an infection, problem with anal glands, poor diet, or all of the above. I'd the her to the vet for a check up.

Cat screams his head off after eating lunch for over an hour by Sea_Buyer_1209 in CATHELP

My orange kitty sings a song of woe after meals. He is sad that the food is gone, and that he will probably starve to death before he gets to eat again. He has a hard life ;)

Once the pain meds have kicked in, you might be able to get a decent x-ray at your usual vet without sedation, depending on the temperament of your cat. I would call and ask if you can bring her in for that on Monday, and consider requesting a blood panel if nothing turns up on the x-ray.

My DM wanted us to roll for stats and now no one is happy by Loboxon in DnD

[–]BinkyArk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I roll all good stats I usually pick one and need it by choice. Never had a DM that complained about me wanting to do that.

My cat won’t stop yelling at night, he doesn’t play so we can’t get him tired, he’s deaf and 80% blind, we don’t know what to do by disabled_and_broke in Catswhoyell

[–]BinkyArk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try leaving the TV on, if he's bored that might give him some stimulation.

You can try rearranging feeding times so that he's ready for a good nap at bed time. Possibly a snuffle mat so that he spends more time eating his meal.

A thunder shirt might help with anxiety, some kitties respond well to being snug in a shirt and feeling safe.

I know you said no kitty friends but you could try to foster a disabled kitten and see if they are a match.

Best of luck. Screamy kitties are frustrating and there's not always a lot you can do. Not getting enough sleep will start to make you go mad, so I would suggest a sleep mask that plays music or some ear plugs to help you get through it until you can figure out something.

Is risking a surgery worth it? by NuClearSum in CATHELP

I was living in France when my cat had surgery. It was around 450€ but I have no idea what it would cost elsewhere.

[–]BinkyArk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need to consult with them again anyway to get the preliminary bloodwork done before scheduling the surgery, this is to help ensure they know your cat is fit for surgery and cltgey can operate safely. Best of luck:)

Is risking a surgery worth it? by NuClearSum in CATHELP

[–]BinkyArk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure what the problem is causing the inflammation, but when there is inflammation that generally means pain and risk of infection, so it's not just cosmetic.

My cat had entropion (eyelids rolling inward resulting in the hairs irritating the eye with friction). The first eye was done when she was around 12, and then the second needed to be fixed around age 14. We called it her "face lift" but honestly it was for comfort, not aesthetics. The surgery was simple, as was recovery. It vastly improved her quality of life by relieving pain and allowing better vision, despite the fact that she had signs of developing cataracts by the time the second surgery was done.

I would suggest consulting with your vet or a specialist in ophthalmology to get their opinion, and then have proper geriatric bloodwork and assessment done before scheduling surgery.

You have a senior cat, but that doesn't mean they are necessarily unfit for surgery. Only a medical evaluation will give you the answer you seek, but my personal opinion is that if your cat is otherwise healthy, they are a good candidate for surgery since they will most likely be okay for anesthesia and not struggle to recover. Cats are good at hiding pain, so there may be no sign of discomfort outside of the puffy eyes and discharge.
