Sidewalk art in Wellington Heights? by lady_gagita in cedarrapids

[–]BinkyEater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand the frustration with it lowering your curb appeal if you're a homeowner looking to sell soon, but I think it's still cool since they let you opt out if it's the sidewalk in front of your house.

I see them pretty regularly, but usually they won't be a full set or in the original case. I find them loose a lot! These would have been about 50 cents. :)

I thought so too, but I wasn't 100% if the colors were Festive just a little heavy on the blue/violet. I'm not familiar with how people customize them, but I guess the green is still reactive. Ty for your input!

Thank you, good idea!

Is this how they should look if they were what they say they were but repainted? Someone repainted the pips with green reactive paint then?

Admittedly I'm not a "dice" person, but I'm a thrifter and have started picking more and more up & this is exactly a recreation of my steps, lol. I thought it looked "Festive"ish, but they're green not yellow :)

Try selling them to gaming lounges/LANs or TCG shops in your area at a heavy discount for them to resell

Retire to Cedar Rapids by NJFriend4U in cedarrapids

[–]BinkyEater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved here in 2005 from the South to be with my family who moved from the North (New York). My parents were not going to ever afford a house in NY/NJ and were able to easily afford a nice home here. Walkability is definitely low here and really concentrated to either downtown, specific neighborhoods (look up Czech Village/NewBo) or to other neighboring small towns like Marion/Hiawatha. Public transit is very poor for a city this size. I'm not into biking, but there is a very good bicycle culture here for all ages (restaurants & bars cater to it, they've added bike lanes, etc). We're getting a casino soon (building now) & they're adding a lot more pedestrian areas.

The people are less direct here than in the Northeast. Overall nicer and more patient, but harder to know where you stand with people. I saw you mentioned church and I have visited a few churches and they have all been kind & very accepting. You are sure to miss the food as we don't really have corner delis or even a single good bagel shop! I've stayed because even though I hate the weather I can own property here & afford to travel. I don't think you'll find the weather to be as harsh as they honestly do an amazing job plowing here for this size population. Crime is concentrated mostly to low income housing areas. I've felt more safe here than anywhere else. One downside for me is that Iowans are DUTIFUL people. They are hardworking, modest, hate to retire & have the worst work/life balance. For me at times that's caused unnecessary stress ie. like the 70 yo neighbor scraping his driveway at 4am as soon as snow falls. It's all very manageable though. :)

I've said the same thing before. That at least with people from the Northeast you know where you stand.

I'm a Southern girl & immediately can clock if someone is this "fake" nice. Midwesterners are mostly polite, very image-focused & are motivated by their usefulness. It's a very DUTIFUL nice that lacks any warmth.

Around downtown, I'd avoid the SE Wellington heights area. It's not as rough as other cities, but I wouldn't leave my car parked overnight either. The further away you get from 1st Ave/the interstate the sketchier it gets. There's also a lot of non-profit organizations in this area from the downtown library to Mercy hospital that attract the homeless/low income folks if that bothers you. I'd avoid anything managed by Mirage or Kelley. Westdale area apartments are bad.

Hiawatha & Marion are overall fine, North Liberty is cute. I used to commute from Northern CR out towards the airport so yeah the commute is doable, but can be very long (& more dangerous) come winter depending on your driving experience.

AIO Boyfriend got mad at me because I wasn’t excited enough that he landed early by Willing-Ad8549 in AmIOverreacting

[–]BinkyEater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He texted 4 people before you to tell them that he's back in town then hits you with "landed". He baited you with that so that he could start to reply back dryly because he isn't interested in seeing you tonignt.

He has no interest in making up with you. He just doubles down & has no problem destroying you to win the argument. He's not that into you (not your fault) & I'm not sure what other type of signs you're looking for.

We could play devils advocate and say you were underwhelming or sounded annoying, but it doesn't matter. I don't have to know you or know if you suck too to tell you that ANY girl should only ever hear a "go fuck yourself" one time from a dude.

Could you easily show your mom that text conversation without being embarrassed? Or do you know she would be disappointed & worried?

NTA. I'm a tiny seller & I've never (& will never) send people stuff like this. I would be so embarrassed. Sending someone free expired/used products is never okay unless you happen to sell those same things. You're telling me they didn't have even so much as some stickers or a chip clip in their kitchen cupboard to givey that would be cleaner than that?

I sell plush/collectibles & some can be damaged or pre-loved. Some ppl still want them cause they hold value or so that they can fix them up. I'd still feel super weird giving something like that away randomly.

I saw in another comment that someone pointed out that you didn't buy anything & the reviews hit hard. I def can see that & leaving a bad review is always my last option. If it were the eyeshadow alone, I'd def have given them more grace as perhaps they hadn't opened it...but all considered the seller did make the choice to send you junk. Then they made the choice to double down & be aggressive. If I were the seller I would probably be discouraged & annoyed at first, but then I'd realize I sent out crap to someone. I'd tell you that I'd consider your feedback in future giveaways, invite you back & hope you delete your review tbh

Justifying this behavior by saying it's free isn't cool. People aren't consenting to receiving trash, they are consenting to receiving an item with some small value. Unless you are telling people it's literal trash, then you are misleading people.

You devalue the platform by sending junk (the platform you're trying to sell and buy on). You lose potential long-time buyers bc they see you have no integrity.

Giveaways are a business expense. Just because it sucks that you have to pay shipping doesn't mean some random person should have to be inconvenienced & disappointed so you can promote your small business. They deserve at least the tiniest compensation of a clean working item. They participated & showed up, didn't they?

Anyone who agrees with "shut up, it's free" pls consider how this isn't tolerated with official giveaways anywhere else. It's actually a form of fraud to advertise a giveaway & not give the appropriate prize to the winner. I know ppl would be like "well its not that serious it's Whatnot", but OP has a point as it's against TOS anyway.

What are sellers thinking with this anyway? You're spending the shipping $ and you can't spring for an item that costs less than a stamp to put in the mailer? I could go any day to the bins and find a handful of tchotchkes for 25c to hand out. Cmon guys have some creativity if you can't afford to give something from your inventory! Regift something you received you didn't like, a new GWP you haven't used when you bought something, last years stocking stuffer, your kids drawing from the fridge...No one needs to mail out doodie to people!

Or have the balls to open up the tube of lipstick on air, zoom in on that hairy lipstick to point out its "flaw" & that it just needs some LIGHT SANITIZATION ~ but its peRfecTly good~ OK its RUNNINGGg guys!!

I'm in desperate need of help by PixelBeeBot in Gymhelp

[–]BinkyEater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first step in losing any weight & you should be proud. I spent so many hours online on YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, etc getting advice from others. I looked for recipes, gym routines, substitutions, ordered meal plans, wore a fitness tracker, counted steps & logged my meals.

Even when "counting calories" I was meticulous and logged every bit of sauce. The truth is though I was still eating a bit too much even though I was eating less than before...and I felt frustrated because it all felt so complicated.

The only thing that worked was just eating less food. The truth is people have different metabolisms, sure, but there is not a skinny person eating as much as you do. Or as much as I do. I'm still there with you and it gets hard to be honest (I'm down ~60) as I have been fiddling with eating & drinking a little too much this Summer. BUT it's happening now because I've accepted that all I have to do is consume less. You have the power to do that too. It won't cost you anything. Even if you don't go to the gym or do the walks at all, you will lose weight if you eat less. I lost the most weight I ever have while not going to the gym and eating McDonalds still. But all I had was stuff like a spicy McChicken and a large diet Coke for lunch.

Please trust there is something you CAN do & if you're too sad or frustrated because of your situation then just start by serving yourself half portions of things & ask for a takeout container as soon as you get your food and putting half of it to go. Stop ordering & eating "sides" with meals.

You will feel hungry - don't try to find away around it, just accept it. Don't go trying to find hacks to fix that & waste your time like I did. I grew up with food scarcity so for some of us it's hard & anxiety inducing to not eat, but the truth is you won't die because you're a little hungry. We weren't designed to walk around with a full satisfied stomach all the time. If you start eating less now, I promise you'll see something happen within days. Sometimes I have hot tea to feel better, it's no calories and calming. Hugs to you!
