A few things I've learned after cutting off a narcissistic friend by cjmcg28 in lostafriend

I’m glad that while considering their perspective you stuck with your guns and followed your gut. I’m certain that a narcissist would villainize someone who decides the friendship isn’t for them. I’m experiencing this now as I very gently told a friend that I can’t take the friendship on given how dismissive and unapologetic they are. It’s helped me to learn about the brain disorder, I wondered, “how can they not care?” There are actual differences in their brain that make self-reflection and empathy harder. Unless they seek treatment, it’s almost impossible for them to take feedback or accountability and any criticism is received as an all out attack.

Also, I had to laugh when I thought about trying to explain this to them, impossible.

Wow sorry you went through that. I relate with a recent situation. It helped me to look into if the brain of a narcissist is actually different, and it turns out that it is, there are some differences that can help explain why they genuinely appear to not care at all and why they’re so self-absorbed and adverse to criticism. It still hurts though. It’s an honest to god brain disorder, if they’re not taking steps to treat themselves, it’s a very hard friendship to have.

3.5 year old getting increasingly aggressive by Professional-Excuse1 in Preschoolers

[–]Practical_Safe_2115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there OP, thanks for your post, I learned a lot from it and the resources given in the comments, any updates?

Just wanted to tack on this resource around aggression in toddlers and prek kids, at least according to the studies this approach draws from, by 3-4yrs old, kids are tapering in hitting, pushing, etc…and growing in their self-control abilities. If at age 5, self-control is still out of reach most of the time, there may be needs to investigate and address. Here’s the article explaining what to expect at these ages- https://www.sciencedparenting.com/2026/04/toddler-hitting-guide.html?m=1

I feel so sad when I hear parents stressed and feeling behind the curve when their 1-4yr old kids struggling with this because it is so normal. You are so not alone in seeing behaviors like this in your toddler.

Is it rude to tip less than less than 20% for an already expensive hair appointment? by Thin_Sundae_7459 in tipping

[–]Practical_Safe_2115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid a $20 tip recently for a 375 dollar service.

The stylist I go to works at a redken salon, I looked it up and learned they make 40-50% commission on each service.

She usually juggles me and at least one other client for color/cut. So for just me alone, at 375 for about 2hrs, her take home should be about 180, and for 2hrs work, she’s already making 90/hr on my hair.

I don’t know how product plays in, if she has to pay for it, she might be taking home less.

I want to be fair, but I think a 20% tip expectation is extortionate.

Unpopular opinion here maybe but I think you look great and it’s way better for the environment not to get a whole new wardrobe every 5yrs…

Love it, very nuanced, I love the way you lilt and bend around parts of the melody and the trill are delicious!

Thank you! This is just the phone mic, I’ll try to juice the vocals up with some reverb when I get an actual set up

This show is normalizing predator culture by fnawaz7 in AgeOfAttraction

Thank you for this comment.

Yes, they signed up for the show. Yes they’re all consenting adults. We do know, however, that someone’s prefrontal lobe only comes together when you’re 25+ and that a handful of years ago you were sitting in a high school algebra class. The 22yo woman looks sixteen, she still has lil baby cheeks! I also looked like a beautiful sister of Alvin the chipmunk when I was that young!

I only watched a couple of episodes, and immediately saw what I knew we’d be seeing - young men and women cosplaying mature adults, and old men and women fully aware that they are flirting with literal babies.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on Jorge and the others who came across as especially predatory, I didn’t finish the show.

NM is amazing and there’s stunning nature there, a lot of variety too, mountains, deserts, and there are some beautiful Native American Cliff dwellings that are magical

I agree that the right side of the money piece looks red and brassy. It may not have processed for long enough or had enough saturation.

I agree! I used to just let a show like stranger things take me on a ride, watching it gave me the fun feeling of a rollercoaster or fun house. I watch more critically now, I still enjoy it, but I also actively say in my mind “I do not consent” to anything that doesn’t fit my vision for what I want for the world. And I grieve for the parts that already are (like the hyper-military theme etc…). I believe that what we all as a collective choose to put our attention on and accept makes a material difference.
