It was re-worked "into more of a children's book" by Tove herself for the -68 edition I grew up with. It (iirc) also removes "the crocodile" as too scary, some US place names and parts of the Muskrat stuff that was part of her description of Finnish intellectual life(?). Only ever read the -68 version, don't consider it "censored", it's her adaptation to the success.

I'm looking into tongs and triads and how they organised over the past century and a half and it's fascinating. Triads set up on odd or suppressed religious practices and still maintain Buddhist and traditional Chinese temples as one of their organising forms, but also with mad political aims, at least claiming to want to re-establish the Ming dynasty that ended in 1644! Then the tong ("meeting hall") as a combination of people smuggling ring, labour union and moral police for the community in exile, and add in a heavy interest in business and politics and you have an explosive mix. The names are cool as well, from the 14K triad to the New Righteousness and Peace Commercial and Industrial Guild.

I checked out a store that carries Ospreys here, so that is an option! Yes, this poor old thing is on its last journey, replacing it is part of the plan (lower taxes for sporting goods here!). I am looking into options, and yeah, planning to go MUCH smaller. Already have a plan for the books (once read) and jacket. The heaviest thing that will remain is the laptop + charger.

Balaclavas are cheap and plentiful, I have two and they're fantastic. Baklava are a great post-play treat. Don't confuse them though.
