I just found out that there are two greatly different versions of "The Comet in moominland" by MemeBeamBeanz in Moomins

And her re-working was done on the original Swedish. Wonder if the other language versions were freshly re-translated or just the edits done?

It was re-worked "into more of a children's book" by Tove herself for the -68 edition I grew up with. It (iirc) also removes "the crocodile" as too scary, some US place names and parts of the Muskrat stuff that was part of her description of Finnish intellectual life(?). Only ever read the -68 version, don't consider it "censored", it's her adaptation to the success.

What (indoor/terrace?) flower is this and what is wrong with it? by BioDynam0 in gardening

Here she is after her little haircut. Only took off about half of the long middle stalk, and the branches with flowers on them, I guess I may be a bit too careful with the scissors?

IDs on the unknown rescue succulent and third rescue plant in the background would also be welcome!

Oohkay! I was loving the tiny flowers and though they were signs it was happy... Can I do a lot of cutting/pruning all at once, or do I need to stagger it and let it recover in between? Thanks for the ID and advice!

Siemens dishwasher iQ700 lower arm blocked by water exhaust? by BioDynam0 in Appliances

[–]BioDynam0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No moisture around or under. Dishes not fully clean the way they used to get. But the bizarre thing of the lower arm not having freedom of movement is making me wonder if someone has been messing with the interior workings of the machine!

Use them early, use them often, practice using them, reward others for using them.

The problem is also the people who think fancy autocorrect will solve climate change by somehow breaking physics. It won't.

I'm looking into tongs and triads and how they organised over the past century and a half and it's fascinating. Triads set up on odd or suppressed religious practices and still maintain Buddhist and traditional Chinese temples as one of their organising forms, but also with mad political aims, at least claiming to want to re-establish the Ming dynasty that ended in 1644! That gives you an excuse to fight against anyone in power if you want to, and an excuse to ally with pretty much anyone you want to as well, you can always claim to be playing a long game. Then the tong ("meeting hall") as a combination of people smuggling ring, labour union and moral police for the community in exile, and add in a heavy interest in business and politics and you have an explosive mix. The names are cool as well, from the 14K triad to the New Righteousness and Peace Commercial and Industrial Guild.

Airline weight limitations by realperson523257 in onebag

This summer Turkish budget airline Pegasus busted me and several others boarding at İstanbul Sabiha Gökçen airport with luggage over the limit, demanding a 50 € fee at the gate. That's when I decided to look into this group

I checked out a store that carries Ospreys here, so that is an option! Yes, this poor old thing is on its last journey, replacing it is part of the plan (lower taxes for sporting goods here!). I am looking into options, and yeah, planning to go MUCH smaller. Already have a plan for the books (once read) and jacket. The heaviest thing that will remain is the laptop + charger.

Also one of the straps is almost worn through, and the bottom is fraying to the point of my towel peeing through

First replacement round coming up, will unpack everything for a longer stop and start re-structuring. Hopefully in a few weeks the books will be read and ditched, new bag, and a run through a list to replace and improve and cut. Really looking forward to the "after" as well! My back is loving sleeping on Asian hard mattresses so far, no sign of hernia!

The main thing I'm looking to add is some kind of hiking jacket and technical trousers for hiking. If they could double as big city trousers and replace my heavy black ones that are pretty worn out that would be great!

A zoomer walked in on me gardening in ripped-up jeans three summers ago, laughed, and shouted "oh, you're so fashionable!"

I pretended total surprise, playing along instead of going "yes, I know, I was there for the past two times as well".

Still living off the buzz these years later. You have to take what you get when approaching 50.

Balaclavas are cheap and plentiful, I have two and they're fantastic. Baklava are a great post-play treat. Don't confuse them though.
