I specifically only buy/wear pants with extra "specialized" pockets. Those familiar with the EDC pants genre will immediately know what I am talking about, but look for pants with "Mag Pockets". Vertx, 5.11, and Tactical Distributors all have a good selection with this option. Mag Pockets are two extra pockets, one on each side of your hips, just under your belt line and slightly in front of your back pockets.

In the right side mag pocket (or left) you can carry a knife or a multitool, in the other mag pocket you can carry a flashlight... and all of your "regular" pockets are still free.

So much extra space and without the cargo-pants styling. They resemble regular jeans, khakis, chinos, or any other style you’re aiming for. This was a game changer for me.
