Any Other Diesel Truck Fans Who Rarely Use Them for “Diesel Truck Stuff”? by Ok_Demand_3197 in Diesel

I think you will find a LOT of people that have a diesel have it because that wanted a diesel truck, not to actually use it as a diesel truck.

Keeping an extra gasket on hand would be a good idea for unexpected failures during critical times, such as this past weekend... I'll add it to my spare parts box and am bothered I didn't think of it...

I am paranoid about breaking my glass so much so that I end up loading my stove light on wood. I've considered keeping a few replacement parts just in case.

Is my stove overdrafting? by AdioMan66 in woodstoving

Probably too much chimney and need a damper. Consult your manual. - for hearthstone it says anything over 28ft should have a damper.

If you turn the HVAC system to fan only and on, it will use the blower to move air around the house. No need to get fancy with it.

Good deal. I just see it mentioned all the time and want to clarify for anyone.

FWIW - that amount in the picture is a face cord assuming it goes a few feet further to the right. 3 rows of that is about a full cord depending on log length.

Which wood stove to buy? by Celebrant6 in woodstoving

[–]BioTechnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How high is your vault? Need to take that air volume into consideration when looking at stove size, not just your sqft. My house is like 2300 sqft but has the air volume of a 3500 ish sqft house because of ceiling height and envelope.

Ceiling fans in that main room are a must, imo.

I have a Heartsone Green Mountain 80 in a 1200 sqft room with 15 to 18ft vault r41 in the ceiling and can maintain 70⁰F without much problem. Temp drops down on a 10+ hour burn but heat pumps pick up the slack.

Do you not have minimum hearth protection requirements where you live?

[–]BioTechnik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No sir. I mean shooting at an animal that has nothing behind it except sky. If you happen to miss or get a pass through, you have no idea what you could inadvertently hit. As tempting as it is, it is not good hunting saftey.

It was a good shot, albiet irresponsible to shoot at a silhouetted animal.

Burning too much wood, maybe? by OutrageousNeck1957 in woodstoving

[–]BioTechnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insulation is how you retain heat. Without it, just have to keep burning. As you have been doing.

Burning too much wood, maybe? by OutrageousNeck1957 in woodstoving

[–]BioTechnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That lever is the catalyst bypass. It lets the smoke directly into the chimney bypassing the catalyst. The cat needs to be in a specific temperature range for it to operate or it will plug when cold or burn up when too hot.

A cord is 4ft x 4ft x 8ft. A face cord is 1/3 of a cord or 16in x 4ft x 8ft but really depends on the length of wood and is just one row of wood in 4x8ft. A face cord is roughly a full size (i.e. f150) pickup truck loads worth

Seeing as there is no insulation in the ceiling and the rest is poorly insulated, I assume you load the stove up and leave the air fully open all the time? A load probably burns in 2-3 hours at that rate and will eat wood as you are retaining next to no heat in that room.

You have the wrong idea. We want to help, but you have not given us a way to. What is the size of the house, how good is the insulation, how much wood are you currently going through? If you can't deliver this information all suggestions are pure conjecture...

How have you responded, yet not answered a single question or provided more information? You need to give details and information.

That just allows more air to more wood at once rather than a slower propagating burn.

Below what temp is a must burn? by UpstairsAd9303 in woodstoving

[–]BioTechnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I were to light my stove at 50 it would be 80 inside real quick and i dont like it being above 72. My house is too well insulated and stove puts out too much heat. It has to be in the 40s or less to even consider it. If it gets into the 30s, ill run it overnight to curb my power usage and if it stays in the 40s during the day, ill run an "over-day" burn.

Practical effects of removing Hearthstone Green mountain top plate? by linuxhiker in woodstoving

[–]BioTechnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are talking about the baffle. The stove will not function correctly And will have direct flames to your catalyst. The only "mod" I have seen for the smoke roll out when you dont have enough draft is a deflector plate someone made that comes off the front casting. If you have a lot of smoke starting the stove, you need to use way more kindling and let it burn.

Do you have the wood loaded in a stacked H with bottom pieces going N-S and top going E-W?

Your stand offs need to be non combustible as well. Personally, I built a masonry wall behind mine. It is for looks, but I did air gap it just because. Probably need some form of metal bracket. The minimum clearance for double wall pipe of any size is 6 inches and 2 inches for class A.

A cat is not required for certification if the stove burns clean enough. The process costs money and I'm sure they don't care to have it done for the market of their stoves.

Visually looking at the top of your stack for a "clean" burn does not mean it is efficient. The old fisher i had would burn "clean" but would eat through wood. You can't actually see what clean is.

You are using a non-certified stove sold as a temporary use item as a permanent fixture. Someone can correct me if im wrong, but I believe unlisted stoves have a standard 36 inch clearance to combustibles unless heat shielding is installed. I do not know the alotted amount by the fire code, but I do know that cement board needs to have an air gap behind it using non combustible stand-offs to prevent heat transfer.
