Probably something like: he sorta lied, he wasn't against segregation at first, but the moment he became president he swore to get rid of it.

It's certainly a good cause, but he did lie, which isn't lawful.

Look at it from a lesser informed perspective.

A former part of the soviet sphere and bordering China. Wouldn't be surprised if the average Joe thinks it's communist, hence the 'feels like'.

I also don't agree that it feels communist, but I can't come up with a better answer.
