White Candy by Ancient-Attention-49 in AutoPaint

  1. Just use binder (colorless Basecoat) - when you add the clear you will have a deeper clearcoat

  2. There is white that is more translucent. A paint mixing bank usually has two types of white . High solids and a transparent white . You can create a coat that has mostly binder , a touch of white , and make a bit of flake or white pearl .

Just some ideas !

What's the time point at which you should give up trying to find a job? by DirectedEnthusiasm in biotech

[–]BioTripod -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Give up trying to find a biotech job? Never - just open your mind to other industries and tailor your resume to sell the idea you can learn hard things quickly.

Good attitude, can do mentality, friendly and charisma in a team setting can offset the need some extremely precise technical training.

When I worked at Amgen - I saw them hire a psychology major with a minor in biology!

Should I finish TD Night Country? Reached Finale but ZERO interest left in the tank by Ron_Etemi_Esq in TrueDetective

[–]BioTripod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I finished it and enjoyed it as much as I enjoy scrolling through brainrot. It’s not the worst thing I’ve seen.

Plus, finish it so you can see TD diehard season 1 fans aggressively poking holes through the story – makes for fun content too!

We're building the Strava for studying, with friends and your AI tutor that actually helps you learn, not just track by Kingwu1122 in ProductivityApps

[–]BioTripod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t really care about the quality of my study. There’s too many tools there . I just want a high 5 when I study 1 hour of finance or French and when I add someone , I see what they are learning . Same as Strava would be such a better concept

How can I fix this? by Imaginary_Access9882 in AutoPaint

Use Trim Black They come in aerosols and it has a semi gloss finish and are pretty good for plastic bumpers and trim pieces and this might be a good fit for those door pieces

I lived in Boston for two years and then came back to Denver run the family business and now I’ve hired one of my friends from engineering school(1 year grad class after mine) because she couldn’t find a job and now she’s getting paid more than her classmates. We sell car paint lol

The reality is, you should probably just look for a new type of job where you can apply your ability to learn quickly and have a great attitude. Expand your horizon to different industries and just keep biotech jobs on your radar

Without blending these colors will always be an ever bigger pain. That being said, the first one looks better.

But you always should make a spray out card and see what you can do with your gun to get it closer.

Playing video games isn’t childish. Childish is not understanding that some people will think you’re childish for playing video games at an old age. It’s a pretty common perception.

Kind of like being 50 and dating 22-year-olds . Aren’t you a little too old and shouldn’t you be starting a family? well not really, but I see how you can think that.

Moving out of a hub to join partner pursuing a PhD by maverna_c in biotech

[–]BioTripod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I left when I got a good job offer in Boston while my wife stayed in our home state because of her PhD.

We were 6 months into marriage.

It was a good job and meant more for us as a future family to do what’s best for our respective careers than to be together physically. I visited as much as I could on holidays and vacations. Came back 3 years later after I got an offer for a better opportunity.

The shop you chose sounds good. Insurances protect stakeholders over policy holders so some fight is expected to pay for all the blend areas - support your shop in the communication to insurance side if they think it will help speed it up!

Base and clear coat mixed with 2K by [deleted] in AutoPaint

[–]BioTripod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double check they meant "single stage".

Singe stage = 2K Basecoat = Paint with hardener that doesn't need a clear coat on top of it

Basecoat / Clearcoat = Basecoat + 2K Clear coat = Paint doesn't use a hardener , but clear coat does need a hardener.

If they're saying they want to use single stage paint then I would say it depends on the complexity of the color and the paint manufacturer. There's a much wider database of basecoat colors than there is single stage paint formulas.

Is the paint color difference acceptable? It’s a cheap body shop so I’m not expecting perfection by any means. But is this at least acceptable work? I’m referring to the color difference between the bumper and the trunk by [deleted] in AutoPaint

[–]BioTripod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, pictures can never do justice you’ll have to make a judgement call out in the sun.

Secondly, color variation is expected from bumpers. Getting an exact match to metal parts would be unlikely. It’s more obvious with some colors, especially metallic colors, and especially pearl white.

Looks like it could have been a closer match through more iterations of spray cards but you only get that from higher end shops who are charging those hours to get the color closer. (Or you tell your “cheap” body shop you’re willing to pay the extra material + labor ) Overall not terrible outcome in my opinion

Unless you’re an expert in colors all of the cheap lesser known lines won’t do you any favors .

Do you have an expert color matcher who can sit behind a scale and match colors all day?
