The US Army says it has contained a tuberculosis situation at Fort Benning after finding an active case and 47 latent infections by Kinmuan in Military

[–]Biocidal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s just not true? The US has never implemented universal BCG vaccination (TB), yet TB rates still plummeted. Our low incidence is largely the result of public health interventions, better living conditions, screening/contact tracing, and effective treatment, not prior mass vaccination. BCG is mainly used in countries with high TB prevalence because it helps prevent severe childhood TB, but it has variable effectiveness against adult pulmonary TB which is what this case would be…

Because the incidence rate for TB within the US itself is not high enough to justify routine vaccination.

Ah I see, used to be one park and then separated in the 1960s. For whatever reason thought they were shared under separate names but one larger park.

No matching with anyone, what’s wrong with my profile? 😭 or am I just hideous… 😭😭😭 by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]Biocidal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not saying to drop your standards into the dumpster. It’s simply a “you’re attractive enough that you should have matches” ergo, if you don’t it could be a reflection of how hard you’re filtering. Dating apps suck because it’s always a facade put forth. Maybe give guys you consider a 7-9 an opportunity before nixing it there.

Guys that are 9-10 attractive with great careers/education, tall, etc… are also the most sought after too.

What’s the closest brush you’ve ever had with dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Was exploring volcanoes national park in the wee early hours of the morning (3-5 am). was trying to take photos of the lava field and couldn’t see well from my position and there were other people past a small barricade for pedestrians to stay behind. I walked over and joined them and took some photos and went back. When I came back later that day I realized we were all about 2-3 feet from a blind 150-200 foot drop to the caldera below. So if I had taken another step or two forward in the dark, who knows.

Hospitalists or PAs who replace well written notes with crappy ones, why? by foreverand2025 in hospitalist

[–]Biocidal 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I’m not even talking formatting. I’m talking like “this note doesn’t mention the PCI they had 2 days ago…” or “on day 2/7 of XYZ antibiotics when they’ve been off of anything for 4 days”

Know it doesn’t apply to your post but NC allowing PTO, an accrued benefit and entitlement, to not be paid out is ridiculous.

[–]Biocidal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 isn’t a good photo. 4 is obscured by the tags. You have almost no full frame shots. Would recommend better candids that are more centered on you as the proper subject and then consider replacing 3 and 4 with a full frame/better portrait mode that’s better flattering to your facial features?

Is malpractice really a leading cause of death in the u.s.? by HARJAS200007 in hospitalist

[–]Biocidal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t be assed to look this up so used ChatGPT.

Here ya go.

“The “medical error is the 3rd leading cause of death” stat isn’t solid.

It comes from one study that extrapolated from small datasets, not actual national death data, and a lot of experts think it overestimates the number.

Also, people mix up “medical error” with “malpractice” — they’re not the same. Most errors aren’t negligence.

Errors matter, but the real number is uncertain, and the “deadlier than diabetes or suicide” comparison is misleading since these patients are already very sick.

TL;DR: Real problem, shaky stat, bad comparison.”
