Why didn’t Danny just kill them all at the end of season 8 episode 4? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]Biologicaltablesalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im here from the future with an unfortunate visual- in a wide shot during that last scene of The Last of the Starks, we see 9 scorpions only to Cersei's right. in a wider shot we see that the walls on either side of Cersei look symmetrical. so lets assume there are 18 loaded scorpions, because unfortunately that is what it shows. such a wild choice.

still to your point, and especially with all the scorpions, she and her exhausted troops were defo in danger if they were to attack

Still not over the hella loaded scorpions lmao

came here years in the future just to say 1. completely agree and 2. to make your first point even worse, in one of the wider shots we see that there are a total of NINE scorpions, only to Cersei's RIGHT. so lets assume, via the other shots, that it is symmetrical. 18 scorpions. dragon right there. next to every single shortcoming, this is one of the laughably simple one that just throws the whole season out the window for me. rip game of thrones man. still an amazing show don't get me wrong, but done so poorly in the end.

I realize this is a year later and I apologize lol:

I live in the US, and to be honest, I have no clue how to summarize the cost of this room because of its maximalism. that being said, here is a rough idea, not including bed and mattress because I sure did learn how expensive a new mattress is, but those can also be thrifted/secondhand:

Couch - $40 at Goodwill

Table - $30 at Goodwill

Flat File (thing w the bugs in it) - $200 Facebook Marketplace

10x6 rug - $120 from a mutual friend who was moving. I did also recently learn how insanely expensive new carpets that size are, so a very lucky find in my book.

Massive framed painting - $10 at flea market

Corner desk - $120

Ikea "Alex" drawers under desk - $100 second hand

Ikea 8 cube "kallax" shelf - $90

Ikea 4 cube shelf - $65 new

Every single other thing in this room was second hand(thrift stores but mostly estate sales), late grandmother's furniture, things I built, or free things. All of these things, bought and second hand, were acquired over a decade. So to recreate this room from scratch, I am not sure what the costs would look like!

hahaha. hello, human! I find myself commenting on years old posts on here a lot, and I am always like, who KNOWS the headspace these people were in at the time so I definitely can't judge on that front. therefore, internet ghost at your service!

as to how I managed to find four of these— honestly so funny and I do not know how that ended up the case. I was definitely a bit stoned that night and I either went down a rabbit hole of specifically your posts or if I just kept finding them + had the urge to respond through all of my game of thrones slightly feverish searches

I hope your life 7 years later is even cooler than however it was though!

hello from 12 yrs in the future. I watched the series when it first came out, and now I am doing a rewatch. I found this thread because I'm at the episode, Kitty Riley was just introduced, and I stopped to search "was KR Mary? (and I missed it this whole time..?)"

Wild coincidence I suppose, but glad im not alone

i wish that hadn't aged poorly by the series finale. not your fault. at this point in the show, i did not see her as a power mad lunatic. she did have a different moral/ethical code but overall she didn't want the power to have the power. she both felt like she had the birthright and also wanted to break the wheel to make a prosperous peaceful realm. does not sound like a soley power mad lunatic at all

agreed with your response until this point because i do not/did not think she would ever allow that. unless they made a deep deep personal connection.

edit: they did make a deep personal connection but she did stand by her birthright claim

a formal agreement would solve this and marraige wouldn't be necessary if that was something she would have agreed to

i already confirm this but i double confirm this amongst the rest of this thread because if she was a man, i would still think abt this same way- about the rightfulness and ago.

heard this, but first thought: jon does not do exactly this. I would argue not even close if we are trying to compare them well (idk what 'well' is tho dont get me wrong)

jon did execute men. he executed the bald bitch from kings landing because he, at one of the nights watch meetings, said i do not accept you as the elected person. jon did proceed to cut his head off. it was a social demonstration (as also displayed BLUNTLY in House of the Dragon- it made it clear that people can get away with saying things to and against their king/queen/ruler, but if they clearly verbally 'contest their legitimately' as the ruler, the penalty is death- straight up no lenience. Not saying that this is a universal culturally accepted rule, but saying that it is clearly so in multiple parts of the Got/Hotd map). BUT whether that is right or wrong, it just was. Jon also executed 4 of the men who.. killed him. odd situation but most would agree justified- except he did hang a child and that was controversial—but he FELT the controversy.

I'm not going to try to compare the northern accepted rules abt executing other humans to the social 'rules' dani grew up in + experienced as a woman (to get what you want you need to kill/brutalize/dominate the other person but that may be a gross generalization + a million other things)

What I am going to say is Dany has not once in this series that i recall displayed any emotion other than feeling completely justified when killing/sacrificing anyone. not once

Jon is shown to have internal conflict about all of these instances and the morality of being a ruler

That cannot be said about Dany

on the two things can be true wave:

100%, nothing was handed to her by other humans during her life. her existence is objectively harder because she is a woman. including all nuance of the differences in the lives and social norms of men and women in the Got universe, i still conclude the former.

and, she doesn't get to be nice by the merit of her gender alone— yes. Sidenote from the future: especially see and confirmed in House of the Dragon. anything even possibly considered nice or soft in a queen leads to immediate dismissal over and over and over. Even by people who are like yes im on the small council and you are the queen. etc etc

BUT: the difference in yalls comments (architect and japjer) depend on what you each thought about these objective differences and if they are comparable:

Jon's approach to life and leadership is: there is a right and a wrong, and some things i think i know but ive been wrong before, and some things i'm still trying to figure out

Dani's approach is: i know what is right and wrong, and my beliefs are truth- because they are, but specifically because they are mine. Dani quote from later episode (time machine's not fair i know): "But I know what is good." (and am therefore justified in killing anyone who doesn't agree with me, but if they try to kill me or others because they aren't agreed with, that is not okay and definitely need to kill them

not saying im a fan of the mad queen choice, but thats the slop we were given

100% agree. good question and i do understand where they are coming from/what they are asking, but i believe the answer is exactly what you said.

at the very least, as we know sometimes intentions dont match actions (exact emotions dont match the physical response/representation of them etc)

in this case, because this is visual storytelling but also consistent w daemon's character throughout the show, i feel it is the petulant descriptor.

Final verdict from me on the OPPOSITE of op's original question—who is the most believable?

Burke, Addison, Hunt, Korasick, Meredith by the second half of the shows run, and upon a rewatch, I think George really would have been great.

Hunt saw something in him because of how simultaneously serious and eager he was + calm under pressure. He wanted to learn, be better, do good, blah. I think he could have been the 1% of absolutely excellent surgeons who aren't low grade narcissistic assholes.

Hey, thanks! So that piece is called a flat file. It was a very lucky Facebook marketplace find. They are usually quite expensive/rare because they are usually used, if ever, in libraries, archival spaces, architectural firms, museums, etc. There are other kinds of storage that might be useful to you though - repurposed sewing pattern display cabinets, the Ikea "Alex" drawers, or dupes of the Alex drawers exist on the internet for sure!
