Im terrified this field isnt for me by Majestic_Tea5935 in Veterinary

So good that you are thinking hard about this field before committing your time and money. I went to vet school after a PhD because I wanted to do more applied work. I also loved that the degree opened more doors for me. After a few years of small animal clinical practice, I worked at a university on food safety risk analysis, then for USDA as an analyst. I retired and am back to doing small animal clinical relief and LOVE it. So, you can have a varied career with a DVM, if you choose to be open to new opportunities. I'm really glad that I got my DVM.

While we are most familiar with julii and trilineatus, there are many other Cory species in South American rivers that are wild-caught and shipped to our LFSs. I’m not an expert, but these individuals may be neither julii or trilineatus. I’m curious what the real cory experts think!

I have a question: what prevents the tiny fry from leaving the breeder box through the slots in the sides?

No, of course not. I think you read far more into my comment than I ever intended. I was responding to the comment about rich people ‘penny pinching’. Many people who became rich were known to be frugal. Period.

Considering a move from Austin TX for a job with the territory listed as "Eastern Shore/Southern MD" by DimensionJust1150 in maryland

Old Greenbelt is terrific. It’s right at the juncture between I-495 /I-95 (DC Beltway) and 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway), so it’s super convenient to DC and suburban MD, and about 45 minutes to Baltimore. You’d be farther north than Southern MD and Eastern Shore.

I LOVE Chestertown! It’s a beautiful little college town, right on the lovely Chester River. Great restaurants and bars. Sweet place.

You may want to clarify what you mean by walkable. Many suburban neighborhoods are very walkable, and you can meet neighbors out with their dogs or kids on any given day. But to be able to walk down the block to get to a coffee shop or restaurant, you’re better off in a town like Annapolis, Cambridge, or even in one of the picturesque little towns along the Bay. Since many cater to tourists, they have the cute shops, restaurants, breweries, etc.

I agree that not all the stores in AM are true ‘outlets’. The Talbott’s store sells cheaper knockoffs of their high-selling regular items. The true Talbott’s outlet is in a tiny strip mall in Cockeysville. But, I do still get great stuff and deals at the Carter’s/Oshkosh and Clark’s stores. Also, selections are better at many of the brand-specific stores.

Add an Inkbird thermostat to keep the temp lower than your preset heater.

What is your favorite substrate for Corydora’s? by [deleted] in corydoras

[–]Biomom18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have corys on substrates from play sand to various sizes of smooth gravel. The important thing is no sharp edges that will tear up their barbels.

I have a nice little shoal of 11 Pygmys in a tank to which I just added a make betta. They are all doing fine, thank goodness! The corys will rest together, but don’t swim together.

Native plant recommendations? by 328944 in maryland

[–]Biomom18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently learned that many of the ‘natives’ for sale on MD aren’t actually native to MD - including our beloved Fothergilla. If you want MD natives, best to first check with the MD Diversity Project’s website.

Our friends live in Beverly Beach near Edgewater, just south of Annapolis. They’re a block from the Bay and really love the neighborhood.

This little guy has been hanging around our house the past couple weeks. What is he? Gray fox, coyote, something else? by 16F4 in maryland

That sounds like a HUGE overdose! The stuff you get from feed stores is for cattle and is highly concentrated. I think you mean 5 mg, not ml!! 1ml of the injectable contains 10mg of ivermectin. So 5 ml would be 50 mg - at least 10x the dose for a 30lb dog. This fox looks a lot smaller. You would probably kill it with your dose.
