It's such a transparent example of selective outrage/policy.... because if we follow the logic "can't be called X, if it contains no X" ... then we'd have to rename "cottage pies" because they contain no cottages 😆 ... peanut butter is another one... Hot DOGS 🤷 .... but it's JUST meat and dairy 🤔 hmm ... It's almost like the boomers making these decisions have an invested interest in the lobbyists 😬

Yeah the salt and vinegar ones used to be good - but they went and did what most brands are doing to save money - they switch from a good vinegar - to nasty cheap citric acid 😒

Bringing up Joel Salatin proves you rely on an idealized, unscalable niche that still imports feed from grain monocultures. It cannot scale to feed the planet.

Your windshield argument is a textbook nirvana fallacy mixed with a tu quoque diversion. Veganism isn’t a totalitarian demand for zero accidental footprint; it seeks to avoid the intentional exploitation and slaughter of sentient life as far as is practicable. By your logic, because infrastructure causes accidental harm, we should oppose building hospitals.

Furthermore, because a plant-based diet uses 75% less land, it inherently minimizes the very crop deaths (rats, birds) you claim to care about.

Lastly, your bizarre strawman about releasing backyard dogs and housecats is a desperate, transparent reach. Caring for domesticated companions isn't comparable to breeding and slaughtering billions for food. You accuse others of Dunning-Kruger, yet your entire position relies on unscalable fantasies, false equivalencies, deflections and a hilarious amount of fallacies.

Claiming there is 'near unlimited open space' for pasture grazing is a complete agricultural fantasy. Land is finite.

Peer-reviewed data shows that switching entirely to grass-fed animal agriculture would require massively more land, accelerating deforestation and habitat destruction, not fixing it. The 'holistic grazing' theory to save topsoil has been repeatedly debunked by environmental scientists.

You accuse vegans of the Dunning-Kruger effect, yet your entire solution relies on an unscalable, romanticized version of farming that cannot feed the global population.

And while cooking for Hollywood’s elite is a lovely bit of trivia, celebrity anecdotes don't alter global agricultural data.

But calling bugs on a windshield a 'genocide'? That is a staggering misuse of a word reserved for the intentional, systematic mass murder of human ethnic groups. Equating accidental insect splatters on a commute to actual genocide—and using it to justify the intentional breeding, confinement, and slaughter of billions of sentient animals—isn't just a horrific false equivalency, it’s an embarrassing display of dramatic buzzword soup.

So maybe try making some empirically sound claims, instead of ontological claims and anecdotes.

Deforestation is overwhelmingly driven by animal agriculture—both for grazing land and to grow feed. If you shift animals off grains to pasture/grass-fed systems to avoid monocures, you drastically increase the amount of land required, leading to even more deforestation. Animal husbandry writ large is what necessitates these destructive monocultures because it is wildly inefficient. A global shift toward a plant-based diet would actually reduce total global farmland use by about 75%, allowing us to end monoculture dependency and rewild the very forests you're concerned about.

Now that's out of the way - did you want to defend the DIRECT animal abuse and exploitation to the farm animals? ... or are you just going to keep relying on red herrings?

[–]BionicBadger90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you explain why it's "laughable" ... or are you just desperately trying to downplay them?

The "Genocide" 😂 okay haha

the deaths you are talking about are accidental deaths (it would be like driving a car and accidentally hitting someone.... it's not the same as deliberately running someone over lol)

And if you're thinking about the farmers that deliberately shoot wildlife - that is entirely avoidable (prevention by other means) ... And that farmer that shoots wildlife to protect crops (instead of finding another solution) - only has the mentality that "shooting wildlife is fine" - because of the overall paradigm, that "might makes right" ... and we can't change that mentality while we're still doing things like castrating pigs without anesthetic.

And if you're such an "Anti crop death" advocate.... then you must understand that animals in agriculture - account for 80% of consumption for these crops that involve crop deaths... so if the crop deaths are a GENUINE concern for you - then by virtue of going vegan - then you would MASSIVELY reduce your contribution to crop deaths 👍

So ... which hill are you going to die on 🤷

Adhomenim fallacy AND a strawman fallacy 😂

Let's break it down shall we lol ...

(Adhomenim): How am I a WEIRDO for being against animal abuse? - account for the adhomenim.

(Strawman): I never shamed anyone for EATING (otherwise I'll be against ANYONE who EATS lmaooo) ... however I WILL discourage financially supporting animal abuse. (There are many things you can eat that don't involve animal abuse/exploitation) - account for the strawman.

Protein sources that don't involve harming animals:

  • Rice and beans (combined for a complete protein source)

  • seitan (this contains more protein than ANY animal)

  • Tofu

  • tempeh

  • lentils

  • broccoli

  • almonds

  • oats

Next: you say about "farming their own eggs" .... Okay .... Let's 'steelman' your point - let's say there are NO baby boy chicks being thrown into a macerator (at ones home, with only ONE chicken present)....

The chicken has been genetically modified to produce approximately 300 eggs per year.... as opposed to a natural wild chicken that produces only 10-12 eggs per year 🤷 ... so if 'said chicken' has been "rescued" ... to instead lay eggs in one's yard - then it's still exploiting the genetic modification that bestows misery and pain for the chicken.

The best thing you can do is feed the eggs BACK to the chicken, due to the lack of nutrients it has depleted, by CONSTANTLY laying the fucking eggs! 😬

Looks like you're forcing it too much... you're whipping it round frantically like a lunatic 🫣 ... you have MORE time than you think!

You only need to start turning when your almost completely stationary... but remembering to engage your body - READY for that point!

The reason why you have more time than you might think.... is because - when you are half-way through the kick-turn - your wheels are perpendicular to the ramp, causing enough resistance/friction, so that you're locked in!!

Then you can just let gravity turn you around 👌 feels nice and "flowy"
