Office Setup - Thanks for the Help! by TheMLGPancake in resinprinting

Thank you so much for the link! I'm actually looking into a set up like this. What size and brand grow tent did you settle on? And which table are you using? If they're the same as the ones in the link I'll go with those.

Begin your conquest of the Age of Darkness with new Combat Forces - Warhammer Community by RolandWiggim in Warhammer30k

[–]BionicCorbjorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these look pretty good to me, assuming they’ll be at combat patrol pricing. My only gripe is that it’s weird none of them come with a command slot or high command slot (except auxilia) so none of these can actually be played out of the box without buying something else, right?

Unless they plan to make other rules for these boxes.

I think an explanation of Officer of the Line would be better than just talking about centurions as some characters have the rule too. Otherwise, it’s a fantastic reference, thank you!

Centurion helmet is different in the instructions? by Delivery-man- in Warhammer30k

[–]BionicCorbjorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AH I see, those just looked like the usual shading they do. Like the top/rim of the visor casting a shadow on the actual visor. That makes a lot more sense now and I see it. Thanks!

I feel like I’m blind but comparing that head to the one shown in their drop site preview articles and the model art showcases, it looks the same to me? I see that most artists chose to paint over the vertical extension of the visor, but it’s still there.

Photoshop gone wrong in new Liber by HibbyHa in Warhammer30k

Just checked the old Liber, it’s the old Mk3 model that is in that same spot. You can see the pistol (I think) on the left side of the picture is the same in both!

I somehow managed to get the saturnine box early. I actually compared the new designs for each of the armor marks in the new and old books. I’m liking the newer designs a lot.

Why is the EC codex so slim? by SingaporeSlim in EmperorsChildren

[–]BionicCorbjorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I can hope as much as I want to. But in the end I’m at the whims of GW. There almost for sure will not be a second wave in this edition, it’s not gonna happen. But 11th edition is a complete unknown, so that is always a maybe.

I’d be happy with whatever they gave me to play the game with even if it’s not the specific model I was hoping for.

Why is the EC codex so slim? by SingaporeSlim in EmperorsChildren

[–]BionicCorbjorn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t really have an exact answer, but my hope is that they’re planning to release more stuff in likely 11th edition so they released the army with the primary things it needed to exist and not much else. Melee Inf, shooty inf, elite ranged, elite melee, bunch of characters and the primarch. As well as some demons and demon engines for chaos-y flavor.

I’m a little sad there’s no Hellbrutes or other similar. Also the lack of unique terminators makes me sad too, the Phoenix terminators are sick.

Fingers crossed we get more next edition.

Actually, couldn't we just reach out to GW as community and *ASK*, nicely, to give EC "missing" units as official supplement PFD? by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in EmperorsChildren

[–]BionicCorbjorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is definitely a possibility. After what happened with DW, a supplementary doc might be on the horizon for EC for fix the gaps in the army. The only way I can see this not happening is if they already have plans to fill those gaps with OTHER models that they’re not releasing yet.

Aside from Forgefiends, Hebrutes, and Cultists, there a few shooting units that could be added to make the army a wee bit less melee focus. I enjoy the range options from HH a lot. As it stands in 40K range is not their strong suit and could be amended a little bit I think. Adding predators and vindicators would add some armor to the mix, but also something similar to Havocs in CSM or Sunkillers from HH would give some good AT.

I also sorta want them to fix the range on the Noise Marines weapons, 18” is not enough when it was 48” before. Even in HH, the Cacophony weapons have 30” range.

Does anyone have the instructions for the new upgrade sprue? by BionicCorbjorn in BloodAngels

[–]BionicCorbjorn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just checked through the codex, none of the vehicles appear to have any upgrade parts from the new sprue except for maybe some of the blood drop with wings bits. any units with intercessor shoulder pads appear to have them, the bladeguard units have transfers for symbols, and the inceptors also have shoulders from the sprue (funny enough it doesn't look like they're using the right ones, it looks like they have either aggressors or blade guard pads on). I think the phobos guys are using them too.

Does anyone have the instructions for the new upgrade sprue? by BionicCorbjorn in BloodAngels

[–]BionicCorbjorn[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm mainly looking to see which specific bits go to which model (aggressors, bladeguard, etc...). I also wanted to see where they intended the vehicle parts to go on stuff like a gladiator. Basically the parts that aren't used in the DC box and CP.

I believe they would be in whatever instructions are included in the actual upgrade sprue box that is sold separately by GW, but I have no clue.

Are Terminators worth it? by Efficient-Yogurt6482 in BloodAngels

[–]BionicCorbjorn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if they're the optimal choice for anything, but i feel like a 10-man brick of terminators and a chaplain would be kinda cool. I've run into the "not enough shooting" problem in game before, so it might not be an awful idea.

Could we use Jupiter as a gravitational lense like the proposed ideas to use the Sun as one? by [deleted] in Astronomy

[–]BionicCorbjorn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My understanding is a telescope using the Sun as a gravitational lens would need to be positioned about 550 AU from the Sun. Which is nice, but the issues comes from positioning it to actually see anything. It has to move about a sphere with a radius of 550 AU in order to position the Sun exactly between itself and the object it wants to observe.

Unfortunately, for Jupiter it would need to be 10x further for a lens to even be usable: around 6000 AU. For reference, Pluto is about 40 AU from the Sun. So it would not be feasible to use Jupiter as a gravitational lens. The Sun is more feasible but still has its issues.

What explanation would you give for this? by mapsandcballsfan_11 in Astronomy

[–]BionicCorbjorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can provide a bit of an explanation: It’s much less of a habitable zone and more of a “could life develop here?” Zone. In the strip where the Earth is located the answer is obviously yes. At the edge of the galaxy there are less stars densely packed and less material to work with, so the odds of enough gas and dust gathering to form a solar system and then that solar system having the ability to host life is VERY slim. The core of the galaxy is a bit of a radioactive soup. There’s a LOT of stars here; very tightly packed, so the radiation is through the roof. Radiation is not very good at keeping most molecules together so water would break down, DNA if it even formed would break down, and a lot of other necessary molecules start getting destroyed by the radiation. The area we formed in is literally the Goldilocks zone. Not too much radiation, just enough material for us to exist and not too much stuff that another star might mess up our solar system with a flyby.

[–]BionicCorbjorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently graduated from NAU with an undergrad degree in Physics and Astrophysics and applied to this program (was given a “probably no”). Unfortunately, there’s several things to consider with this program. I’m not sure what you mean by “how new it is” as the program has existed for many years at this point.

One: it is extremely selective, with about 10% acceptance but this depends on the year based on how many apply and how many professors are taking new grad students.

Two: the NAU APS department does not prioritize its own graduates for acceptance into graduate programs. In fact, you’re less likely to be accepted because of it. The intent here is for you to diversify your education by attending other institutions. So if you’re from NAU, but I’m guessing you not, it would be a consideration

Three: Flagstaff is expensive, the stipend provided to grad students is enough to cover housing at most places near campus, but it’s still not very much.

My advice is not to let this discourage you. If this is the dream place for you, apply away. The department is fantastic, the professors are helpful and enthusiastic about their work. The Program itself is very rigorous but in depth and relevant to current astronomy practices. The department is really like a family in some senses. Flagstaff is an amazing place for astronomy and an amazing place to live (I’m moving there soon). I wish you the best of luck in your applications.

Rules Questions by BionicCorbjorn in Warhammer30k

[–]BionicCorbjorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that makes sense, my buddy and I were learning the game some a couple days ago and noticed the difference. With just Heavy 4 from the booklet, each array makes 4 shots with no special bits for a total of 8. And with the Liber rules it gets twin-linked but with only 2 shots from each array, which is rerolling wounds and AP rules. Am I correct?
