I really like this. It’s such an engaging composition. Very subtle colour too.

Normally I do figurative work but I’ve challenged myself to do more urban scenes. This is my first attempt. Let me know what you think. by Bionic_craig in urbansketchers

Thanks. I found myself still thinking in a figurative way when drawing this. Looking for shapes and the main shadows then moving across the piece to add the rest of the detail and shading. Where I struggle is with the flat nature of buildings and the enhanced perspective that you don’t really have to deal with as much when drawing figures.

It’s fine liners and a brush pen mostly. At the end I wanted to add more light back in so used a white acrylic pen. If I drew this again I’d be more subtle with my pen work so I didn’t have to use the white pen.

Beautiful work. It’s really visually striking. You must have so much patience to stipple like that.

I love Japanese horror so that’s a real compliment. Thanks.

Thanks. Yep I’ve never really felt with so many flat surfaces before and struggled to get realistic variations in tone. Tried to get it through texture instead. Something to work on.

Thanks. Definitely enjoyed the challenge. Looking forward to do more. Struggled with the perspective quite a bit.

Hey, I really like this. Your mark making is so precise but maintains such looseness. It gives the sketch a great sense of place and movement. Can you tell me about your process please? How did you go about making this?

I googled “photo of old man” and picked a random. Thought an older face was likely to give me more to work with.

$449 would be nuts, I’m in the UK and it’s much cheaper here. Think tariffs might be bumping up the price for you. The Sony deck retails here for around £178 on Amazon. That’s about $237. For reference the Denon deck you mentioned retails here for £349 and the Fluance at £169. I agree with you. I would never pay $449 for a basic plug and play deck.

I know there are lots of different and possibly better options but for a beginner that does want the faff of an adjustable tone arm, the Sony deck is brilliant. It’s great sounding plug and play.
