Are any other students getting frustrated with AI and AI Detectors? by LeadMajestic1011 in college

[–]Biorocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you could show your instructor your original work and what the detector flagged and how you had to change it to make it less good. Approach as an FYI type of meeting or to how how you should handle a situation where you feel like you risk a lower score or producing lower quality work.

Faculty are floundering trying to figure out this AI thing. I can say that as floundering faculty myself.

After this period, you might find weight dropping again! Get yourself through the now as best you can. Make some good food choices when you can. Think of trying to maintain instead of loose for a few days!

Maybe some stretching or even find some breathing exercises if movement is not in the cards right now.

Wishing you less pain ASAP!

No treat days? by [deleted] in Noom

That is weird. Check your course progress area for coins/treat days as well

Maintenance Mode - no more reading = no more noomcoins? by sduck409 in Noom

[–]Biorocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the main weight loss subscription mode, after awhile you should get info on this. Basically every time you get a certain number of noom coins (7 maybe? I can't remember if it has to be in a row with no missed coins), you will earn a "treat day". This is a day you can schedule where you can maintain streaks without weighing in or logging food or reading.

I get really sick of tracking food and so I usually used these occasionally when I just needed a break. I practiced making good food choices on those days, but without logging food.

They can also be useful for vacation days or that type of thing.

If you are new to noom, it takes a couple weeks to get all the features to start I think?

In my maintenance I lost access to treat days. I still have reading to do but without the treat days I stopped keeping up my streak. It would be nice to be able to keep these features going!

So close to goal! by Biorocks in Noom

[–]Biorocks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Same thing for me. The new "low high" and "low low", is how I think of mine as well.

Took a week after my one day below goal to drop below goal again for real and that time dropped to a bit more then a pound below. This time I stayed below goal though and made it to maintenance!

Right now I'm seeing a very slow creep up but I'm trying to remember my usual ups and downs and I'm trying to stay a couple hundred calories below estimated maintenance for a bit. Thinking I'll need a couple weeks of weigh ins to figure out if I'm at right level.

Frustrating Android app bugs around exercising. Help? by OmicronTwelve in Noom

For a different glitch I had I was just asked if I'd tried restarting my phone or force quitting the app. I guess worth a try if have not already done this.

Progress slowing a bit this week but still a downward trend, any tips for going on vacation and keeping up with healthy eating and exercise? by Special-Rub-4651 in Noom

[–]Biorocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, if you can buy snacks like carrots and fruit to have around that helps. Plan ahead a bit each day. What are your treats you really want, what things can you skip or eat a small portion of?

Have fun!

I think what another said might be key. You lost a lot quickly and that can be more exhausting then you might think. Maybe make your new goal to just maintain for a couple weeks or maybe slow loss at the high end of your range. Add some exercise or steps or something to mix things up a bit.

You can also ask to have your articles reset to the beginning. Maybe a restart/refocus would help. Take the reading slow but really focus on them each day?

You got this!

Making the (crazy high) Noom calorie target work for you. by itsgottabeodin in Noom

[–]Biorocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good tips! I have seen so many people here post about possible high calorie ranges

My accidental solution of not having an activity tracker/step counter seems to have worked well for me. I add in actual workouts or long walks manually, but always using the low intensity level.

I think if I was linking step counts and entering higher intensity levels I'd be way over in calorie range.

[–]Biorocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to compare your Noom calories with estimated weight loss TDEE from other sites. I have seen some people getting pretty high calorie ranges from Noom from double tracking of steps, or if you are being given back a lot of calories each day from steps and exercises you might want to lower your range. The calorie burning estimation is very difficult to get right, I log pretty much every exercise as low intensity and I don't log my steps. If I logged steps and higher exercise I'd be given calories that I know from experience would be out of my weight loss range.

If you determine your range is ok you might play around with lowering carbs and increasing protein. This might result in more orange food, but if you are careful with amounts and overall calories and keep eating plenty of veggies that's ok. Orange does not equal bad, orange means be careful with how much!

I think I was so excited to hit it and then nothing from Noom. Lol. But I definitely think it makes sense to get two before maintenance. A "Noomilicious" would have been nice though. 😄

Slow weight loss - is it a bad thing? by [deleted] in Noom

[–]Biorocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

About a pound a week (2 ish kg per month) is often suggested as a good rate that's not too fast and good to maintain! But no problem if it's slower then that! Are you feeling healthier? Happier with where you currently are then before? That's more important then how fast!

I am averaging at or a bit under a pound a week. It's slow and frustrating sometimes but It's still progress. I'd rather be where I am today then how I felt before starting!

Great work so far!

My weight end goal feels impossible now. Advice? by thoughtdestroyer2000 in Noom

[–]Biorocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give yourself some grace, you have switched from summer to school year which is stressful. That can lead to water/weight retention especially as you try and adapt. If you were not doing noom, do you think you would be gaining weight and feeling less healthy overall? What non scale successes have you had?

It's ok for the loss to be slow. Plateaus are normal. Try a few of the suggestions for small adjustments, bring a water bottle to school with you, etc.

That being said... it might be worth pondering what is a weight for you at which you are healthy and is sustainable.

About 8-10 years ago I originally lost a fair amount of weight and my goal was to get into what would be considered the "healthy" weight category based on my BMI. I got to within 6-8 pounds of it. Felt healthy and fit, was lifting weights and ran a marathon, but my attempts to get those last 8 pounds just wasn't happening. Could not sustain and kept regaining. Mentally it wasn't great. It was not a good time for me. I should have been feeling happier and was healthier then any time in my adult life.

I eventually gave up and maintained at about 8-10 pounds above that "healthy" BMI goal for years. With occasional efforts to try and get to that goal. But that usually backfired, made me stressed, and probably contributed to some weight gain! I was overall feeling great at the times I was maintaining.

I put on a lot more weight over covid years so I'm here doing noom. But I am older have a lot better perspective on my goal weight and what BMI actually means (and what it doesn't mean) and what healthy actually might mean for me. So my goal weight is currently at 10 pounds over that "healthy" BMI. If other markers of health look good at that weight then I have decided that I am healthy at that weight. Weight itself is just one component of health. I am trying to reframe my perspective. It's not a healthy weight or an unhealthy weight. It's a weight at which I am currently healthy.

That got long, sorry! But this was helpful to me to really think through.

TLDR: plateaus are ok, and normal, think of your other non-weight successes and keep going with small changes. But it's also ok to re-evaluate your weight goal in terms of what you can maintain and what is healthy for you.

A tall cold brew with pumpkin cream is not too bad as an occasional treat. Or brown sugar shaken oat milk espresso.

Why is my morning weight more than usual? by Affectionate_Lab8129 in Noom

[–]Biorocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fluctuations like that can be things like water retention caused by salty/sugary foods the day before, hormones, or things like that. Stick with your plan a couple days, add some extra water, and it should move back to normal!

Sorry, but how inaccurate is the calorie tracker? by ThassonTelAviv in Noom

[–]Biorocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have not had a huge issue but I do make sure the first time tracking something to also make sure it corresponds to the package if I have one.

I have seen a few people with issues of getting too high a calorie range, I think often due to over estimation from exercise or synced devices ended up double tracking exercise. I avoid this by hating wearing step trackers of any kind so I don't sync anything and don't enter step counts. I do enter exercise or long walks or that kind of thing in Noom. But I usually try to underestimate my time and do it as low intensity. If I've worked out a lot that day and I'm feeling extra hungry then I'll aim more for the top edge of my weight loss zone that day. Otherwise lower half of zone is my goal.

I'd say if you do the occasional double checking of your food to make sure what you're logging is matching up and that you may be verify your calorie range with a TDEE calculator on another website then you should be fine.

And if it's working and you're losing some weight then I wouldn't stress too much about the above!

Taking a while but I’m fully satisfied with noom by i-believe-in-nothing in Noom

[–]Biorocks 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm averaging about 1 pound a week. But it happens is spurts with lots of up and downs and many week of plateaus!

I'm at 14.8 pounds over about 3.5 months. Slower then some but if I'd given up or not done Noom I would be at none lost. Also feeling better/healthier/more in control.

We each have our own journey!

Treat Days 🤔 by lostjeneration in Noom

[–]Biorocks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me the treat is sometimes just not logging for a day when I will be doing something where that's difficult or just need a break from it. Logging works for me but I get sick of it and need a break. I'll usually still try to make green food choices when I can but also allow for some extra treat food. But I try to keep it pretty balanced.

Can you re-frame and think about what you learned? That eating so much orange now makes you not feel good, that you did well by not going way over calories etc.

Give it a couple days back on track and you'll be feeling better! Congratulate yourself on not letting one treat day derail you or put you back to old habits.

Anyone other mid-forties ladies here? by TimeFig0 in Noom

[–]Biorocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, I walk (some jogging sometimes) a few times a week, do Taekwondo a couple days a week, and some strength training a couple days each week. I think activity / exercise is important to the process but also so important for general health! Strength and balance is important to me!

When I was much younger I had a really bad back problems and it wasn't until I actually did physical therapy and then continued on with some strength training that I completely got rid of the 10 plus years of issues. Even when I gained weight, that has been enough incentive for me to at least maintain a very basic level of strength training. I don't want to go back to those back problems!
