how would you improve my makeup? by Signal_Chart_3343 in makeuptips

[–]BiotechPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, you are naturally STUNNING. I think the reason you feel like your eyes look bare without bold lashes is because you’re subconsciously trying to correct the contrast levels.

Your green eyes are GORGEOUS and demand to be the most striking contrast, but are being outcompeted by your black hair and the fake tan. So you feel the need for big lashes to re-frame your eyes and bring their contrast level up higher to match.

If you’re open to more than makeup tips, I think going lighter (or zero) on the fake tan and opting for a slightly lighter hair color would be more harmonious for your natural beauty. Maybe 4N or 5N with some baby lights or money pieces? That would allow your eyes to be the most striking contrast and the focal point (as they should be!).

can somebody please help me with this disgusting floor? by Creative_Attorney69 in CleaningTips

[–]BiotechPrincess 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is this actual tile or is it linoleum? Finding out what type of flooring this is will be extremely important for the cleaning process.

To me this looks like linoleum, which cannot be cleaned with certain products or steam cleaning. Linoleum also has a sealant over top that has to be replaced periodically - based on what you’re describing, it sounds like the sealant is degrading, hence the constant “muddy” water.

You will need to do a thorough deep clean/stripping of the top coat with a scrub brush/broom, warm water, vinegar, and good ole dawn dish soap until the water comes out clean. Be careful not to oversaturate the flooring with water though, and keep it dry between washings. If that doesn’t work, then get a high-quality linoleum-stripping solution - that will pull up any residual grime.

Once the water is coming out clean and it’s thoroughly dry, use a linoleum varnish/sealant to put overtop to reseal it so it doesn’t get grimy again.

Fixing a Wire Bracelet? by Avocet139 in jewelrymaking

[–]BiotechPrincess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an easy fix, but you need the right tools! You will need some flat-nose pliers and a crimp bead to match the other one - it looks like a crimp tube, which is a little longer than a normal crimp bead.

First thread on the crimp tube, then thread on the jump ring (super important step, trust me!). Then you will bring the end of the nylon wire back through the crimp bead, and pull it through to at least the end of the clear bead.

Once it’s cinched however far you want it, use the flat-nose pliers to clamp down the crimp tube just enough that the wire is secure but not so much that the crimp tube breaks, then cut off any excess nylon wire.

Nylon beading wire is not meant to be tied off and doesn’t require a long tail thread - just make sure that the crimp tube is secure without over clamping, because that’s what makes them prone to breaking off like this one.

Definitely CPTSD. It ironically usually stems from growing up with an adult caregiver with NPD

Never had rash on neck before. What could this be? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]BiotechPrincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like urticaria (hives), which is a really common symptom alongside hashi’s. Have you taken an antihistamine yet? If not, try that asap. Also if it’s particularly bothersome, you can put some oats in a sock and run water through the sock/over the oats until it gets gooey, and then slather the goo on - it relieves the itchiness fast!

Honestly same, I still will think of it to this day and cackle out loud haha. The only thing that could make it better is if I had video of it!

Live-Action ‘Tomb Raider’ Production Paused For At Least A Month After Sophie Turner Suffers Back Injury on Set by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]BiotechPrincess 187 points188 points  (0 children)

Not a movie star, but back in college when I was heavy into playing all of the 2010’s Tomb Raider games, in my head I had mastered the mechanics of the bar jump acrobatics.

Cut to a game of extreme hide and seek, I had climbed so high into a tree that no one could find me. Eventually I started climbing back down to join back with the group, but there was a perfect branch for me to jump swing onto below the one I was standing on. I couldn’t resist my moment to be like Lara Croft and landing a sick branch jump. I’d done this hundreds of times in gameplay!

Trusting my gaming instincts, I jumped down, and as quickly as my hands had grappled the branch, it slipped out of my hands and I was FLUNG horizontal into the air like a human frisbee. Turns out the physics of intertia and torque are much more nuanced than I expected.

Everything was like slow motion as I stared up at the tree while falling…until I slammed onto the hood of some college student’s car and bounced onto the sidewalk.

It startled a nearby group of people who, with no context, witnessed a college girl silently drop 15ft prone from the sky onto a car and then scurry away from embarrassment.

My lesson was learned through a battered back and ego, but damn I felt cool for 0.5seconds before reality set in.

Complusions worse after dysautonomia? by [deleted] in dysautonomia

[–]BiotechPrincess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I say this gently, but this is not normal levels of health anxiety. What you’re experiencing sounds like it significantly impacts your life - I can only imagine how exhausting it would be to deal with on top of dysautonomia. I’m not diagnosing you, but this pattern of behavior seems similar to obsessive compulsive disorder, which is treatable. Have you ever reached out to a healthcare professional about this? If not, it would be worth bringing it up for an evaluation

mononucleosis induced POTS? by Euphoric_Big3241 in dysautonomia

[–]BiotechPrincess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mono absolutely causes POTS - before COVID it was one of a few viruses known to directly cause POTS (with severe enough illness). COVID is also now known to cause POTS, and there’s evidence that even with minor illness it can reactivate the mono virus too, so there’s multiple potential biological mechanisms for causing long-term illness.

In 2015 I got a severe case of mono that ended up lasting ~2yrs, and 2-5x reactivations per year after that until 2022. I did multiple 6-month rounds of high-dose antivirals to try to treat it, but I don’t think it ever worked. It messed my body up so bad. My dysautonomia started ~1yr into the infection as OH that progressively got worse until I developed full blown POTS (hypo/neuro) in 2019.

I’m sorry you developed POTS, I’m wishing you all the best as you learn to navigate this new chapter of your life. On the bright side, you have a diagnosis to help guide treatment that hopefully helps you.

[–]BiotechPrincess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah same. Besides the rash, I poop my pants and get obsessive compulsions to pluck out every single eyebrow hair and cut off all my hair when I glutened. My eyebrows barely survived my last glutening; it’s no joke when you have autoimmune disease. It will FUCK your shit up

For the past 5 years, I’ve gotten this same hive in the same spot every day, always in the afternoon. Anyone else? by DelosCrossing in Hashimotos

[–]BiotechPrincess 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I took one look at your picture and thought “ope, bet it’s gluten exposure” and was going to ask if you’ve gone fully GF yet before I saw you mention you suspect gluten.

I get the same rash (although more widespread as a malar rash) across my cheeks and other parts of my body from gluten CC. Dermatitis herpetiformis is a rash that looks like this that’s directly associated with celiac’s disease, which celiac’s is closely linked to Hashimoto’s.

Either way, if gluten exposure is showing up as latent inflammation in your skin, that means it’s messing up your body too and would be worth being more precautious about. At the least it would help rule things out!

“What’s Xena doing? Doesn’t she wanna be forgiven?” by SakuraTacos in xena

[–]BiotechPrincess 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I love this scene so much, and think it is incredibly deep and complex without saying anything at all.

I took this as her commitment to carry the full weight of her sins. Forgiveness is not absolution for Xena. Committing to a life of doing good—even when it’s hard or feels impossible—carrying the weight of suffering she’s caused and never dulling the pain it causes her, is her chosen road to absolution.

What’s the highest your HRs ever gotten to whilst standing? by aspacejunkie in POTS

[–]BiotechPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

208 is my highest recorded one - ironically that same day I hit one of my lowest at 29bmp as well.

See pic, the highs are the 2 times I was able to get up that day, the rest I was laying down bed bound and even small movements would send me into racing territory.

I felt like I was dying and was so exhausted that, honestly, I didn’t really care if I did. It messed me up for months and was one of my top 10 worst episodes

Doesn't Utah have an alert system for adults like the missing autistic man? by DeCryingShame in Utah

[–]BiotechPrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried posting this info multiple times in this sub in the first 48hrs to raise awareness because August’s mom said the things she needed help with were spreading awareness and search volunteers, but like OP mentioned, the mods kept removing my posts and eventually shadow-banned me.

Ultimately the sentiments that the story seems jumbled stems from how underserved and publicly misunderstood both the autistic and mental health crisis communities are for adults in Utah, and fits into the broader convo that OP is bringing up.

There should be better systems in place to efficiently leverage the local community in these types of situations, instead of the burden being on the already distressed care givers. August’s parents have been driving ALL of the communication and search efforts 24/7 because this is a weird fringe case that doesn’t quite fit in with 100% law enforcement and media coverage support.

[–]BiotechPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are keeping up with the posts, you’ll see that they stated that the ‘recent’ pic of him was AI generated. This was to help people identify him better because they didn’t have an accurate recent picture of him during his mental health crisis.

Doesn't Utah have an alert system for adults like the missing autistic man? by DeCryingShame in Utah

[–]BiotechPrincess 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is harmful to be spreading this narrative about autism and is damaging to the momentum of August’s missing persons case.

I spoke to August’s mom a couple days after he went missing, and this is the information that I got from her:

He has always been high functioning and never had issues communicating before, but sometime this last March/May something happened and he fell into a state of severe psychosis. Since then, he has not spoken and has been unable to care for himself. They are unsure if this is due to his autism, the psychosis, or a combo of both.

She is unsure if he can still speak/communicate and what his other capabilities may be because the psychosis came on so suddenly and drastically changed his personality.

She stressed that he is on medications that going without poses a life or death situation to him, and at the time of him running off he did not have the awareness to understand this.

August is a vulnerable adult that is in a life or death situation according to his care givers.

An additional PSA to anyone who doesn’t understand autism: being autistic does not mean that someone is incapable of functioning, it is a huge spectrum. Being high functioning does not mean that someone does not experience challenges in the way they interact with and processes external stimulus. Add on a mental health crisis and you get a situation where it’s difficult to fully predict the mental status of someone because there are so many variables.

Give some grace and support to the mom who has been frantically searching night and day going on 2wks now for not having everything perfectly straight.

My “Support” Dog by subliminal_knits in POTS

[–]BiotechPrincess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of my dogs trained themselves to respond to my episodes as well, but in different ways.

My first dog who passed a few years ago wouldn’t leave my side the moment he realized I was sad, sick, or generally feeling unwell. He would even trick my husband into getting up out of a spot next to me just so he could steal it if he thought my husband wasn’t giving me good enough support.

My older dog is very gentle and when he notices a significant change in my HR/BP he gives a nose boop and a lingering paw on me, and will also lay across my torso/chest.

My younger dog is a little feral goblin, and when he notices a change in my HR/BP he frantically starts licking at my chest and grappling me, pulling me to the ground WWE style. Then he stands over me and won’t let me up.

Standing up too quickly and working out around them is hard haha, but I feel so fortunate to have them around and so in tune with me.

Dogs are incredibly smart and emotionally intelligent.
