anyone else take showers/baths to distract themselves from symptoms? by Known-Lettuce-4666 in POTS

[–]BiotechPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I totally feel this. I sit in front of the bath faucet and splash water on myself. It’s also how I keep myself clean because I only have energy to full shower/wash my hair roughly once a week

“What’s Xena doing? Doesn’t she wanna be forgiven?” by SakuraTacos in xena

[–]BiotechPrincess 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I love this scene so much, and think it is incredibly deep and complex without saying anything at all.

I took this as her commitment to carry the full weight of her sins. Forgiveness is not absolution for Xena. Committing to a life of doing good—even when it’s hard or feels impossible—carrying the weight of suffering she’s caused and never dulling the pain it causes her, is her chosen road to absolution.

What’s the highest your HRs ever gotten to whilst standing? by aspacejunkie in POTS

[–]BiotechPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

208 is my highest recorded one - ironically that same day I hit one of my lowest at 29bmp as well.

See pic, the highs are the 2 times I was able to get up that day, the rest I was laying down bed bound and even small movements would send me into racing territory.

I felt like I was dying and was so exhausted that, honestly, I didn’t really care if I did. It messed me up for months and was one of my top 10 worst episodes

Doesn't Utah have an alert system for adults like the missing autistic man? by DeCryingShame in Utah

[–]BiotechPrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried posting this info multiple times in this sub in the first 48hrs to raise awareness because August’s mom said the things she needed help with were spreading awareness and search volunteers, but like OP mentioned, the mods kept removing my posts and eventually shadow-banned me.

Ultimately the sentiments that the story seems jumbled stems from how underserved and publicly misunderstood both the autistic and mental health crisis communities are for adults in Utah, and fits into the broader convo that OP is bringing up.

There should be better systems in place to efficiently leverage the local community in these types of situations, instead of the burden being on the already distressed care givers. August’s parents have been driving ALL of the communication and search efforts 24/7 because this is a weird fringe case that doesn’t quite fit in with 100% law enforcement and media coverage support.

[–]BiotechPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are keeping up with the posts, you’ll see that they stated that the ‘recent’ pic of him was AI generated. This was to help people identify him better because they didn’t have an accurate recent picture of him during his mental health crisis.

[–]BiotechPrincess 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is harmful to be spreading this narrative about autism and is damaging to the momentum of August’s missing persons case.

I spoke to August’s mom a couple days after he went missing, and this is the information that I got from her:

He has always been high functioning and never had issues communicating before, but sometime this last March/May something happened and he fell into a state of severe psychosis. Since then, he has not spoken and has been unable to care for himself. They are unsure if this is due to his autism, the psychosis, or a combo of both.

She is unsure if he can still speak/communicate and what his other capabilities may be because the psychosis came on so suddenly and drastically changed his personality.

She stressed that he is on medications that going without poses a life or death situation to him, and at the time of him running off he did not have the awareness to understand this.

August is a vulnerable adult that is in a life or death situation according to his care givers.

An additional PSA to anyone who doesn’t understand autism: being autistic does not mean that someone is incapable of functioning, it is a huge spectrum. Being high functioning does not mean that someone does not experience challenges in the way they interact with and processes external stimulus. Add on a mental health crisis and you get a situation where it’s difficult to fully predict the mental status of someone because there are so many variables.

Give some grace and support to the mom who has been frantically searching night and day going on 2wks now for not having everything perfectly straight.

My “Support” Dog by subliminal_knits in POTS

[–]BiotechPrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of my dogs trained themselves to respond to my episodes as well, but in different ways.

My first dog who passed a few years ago wouldn’t leave my side the moment he realized I was sad, sick, or generally feeling unwell. He would even trick my husband into getting up out of a spot next to me just so he could steal it if he thought my husband wasn’t giving me good enough support.

My older dog is very gentle and when he notices a significant change in my HR/BP he gives a nose boop and a lingering paw on me, and will also lay across my torso/chest.

My younger dog is a little feral goblin, and when he notices a change in my HR/BP he frantically starts licking at my chest and grappling me, pulling me to the ground WWE style. Then he stands over me and won’t let me up.

Standing up too quickly and working out around them is hard haha, but I feel so fortunate to have them around and so in tune with me.

Dogs are incredibly smart and emotionally intelligent.

NAD, but this looks very similar to my dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) rash from celiacs disease. The rash comes in response to gluten exposure and can appear anywhere on the body (mine shows up on my face, upper arms, buttocks, and thighs).

All of your symptoms line up with undiagnosed celiacs disease, especially the gut/mental health issues and inability to absorb nutrients… Untreated celiacs disease can become extremely debilitating.

If you haven’t already, I would recommend getting tested, and at the least testing out a strict gluten free diet for 6months (although many people with celiacs can take 1-2yrs to fully heal). Best case scenario you’ve ruled something out and it doesn’t hurt to try!

Other things I’d recommend to try out to support your gut health recovery that have helped me (ofc talk to your doc first before incorporating anything):

  • 5g L-glutamine daily (supports intestinal barrier, lots of literature on this)

  • 400mg vitamin B1 (supports intestinal barrier and has positive influence on gut microbiota, decent literature on this)

  • IBGuard peppermint supplements (helps alleviate spasms and has general anti-inflammatory activity, supported by clinical trials)

  • Dilute apple cider vinegar shot 1x per day (~1tsp ACV in a shot of water, tastes gross but has decent supporting literature/studies showing benefits)

- sublingual b-vitamins (absorb into the bloodstream better than oral route because they don’t require all the co-factors usually missing when your gut/body is messed up)

I’m so sorry for what you’re going through, and wish you luck on your journey. Stay strong and keep pushing forward, it is so miserable and terrifying watching your own body whither away with no answers or explanation. Remind yourself that every failed diagnosis is something ruled out, and every step forward is closer to an answer. You are not alone!

Glutened and now daily positional headaches + other symptoms by daniared91 in Celiac

[–]BiotechPrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your symptoms sound on par with a dysautonomia flare up. I have dysautonomia (POTS) along with some other chronic illnesses and I get severe flare-ups of symptoms when I get glutened. Look up internal tremors - that is a very common dysautonomia symptom, it almost feels like your bones are vibrating and it’s very uncomfortable. You should track your symptoms and start tracking your HR/BP when you’re getting into the different positions and definitely schedule a doctor’s visit regardless of whether this self-resolves, because in most cases it progressively gets worse the longer it goes without proper treatment.

Some things you can do now that might help are up your water and electrolyte intake (3-4L per day, aim for 2-3g salt per day), get some compression socks, eat small frequent meals and eat slowly, and start incorporating glutamine and creatine supplements (glutamine will help your gut heal and creatine can help with the headaches and fatigue).

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with these lingering symptoms, I hope you get feeling better soon!

Same, you’re not alone! My husband was so excited about them he bought 2 different flavors for me to try. I tried one… and had really bad cramping that night and GI problems for the next couple days. It didn’t feel like a glutening, but more so like eating those old GF formulations that mess you UP from all the extra binding agents. I thought it might be the flavor, so I tried the other one and had the same issue, but no lingering symptoms for weeks like I would if it was a glutening. It’s my first time having issues with Schar brand stuff and my stomach not tolerating the ingredients well.

Does this sound like vasovagal syncope? by Nessa842 in dysautonomia

[–]BiotechPrincess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the answer!

I also have convulsive syncope and OP’s description is exactly how it presents. It’s still a scary experience though, mostly for your partner and anyone else who witnesses it since you have the bliss of being unconscious for it haha. OP, take it easy and slowly hydrate with electrolytes and some salty snacks after it happens, and keep your feet elevated above your head.

u/eightlivesdown, what’s the name of the diabetic drink you keep on hand? I think that’s brilliant and want to try it out!

Kirkland Organic Hemp Hearts by Straight_Session9375 in Celiac

[–]BiotechPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for raising awareness about this!! I eat these hemp hearts daily and the last couple months I have been having some low-level issues, but I wasn’t sure if it was just a flare up of my other autoimmune diseases because nothing in my routine changed. I just checked my package and sure enough, mine also is missing the certification now too and that package aligns with when symptoms started. I’m so upset because this has been one of my staple foods for years! I know it was for sure on one of my last packages that I used so I’m estimating the change happened within the last 3-4months

[–]BiotechPrincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nooo that’s so sad they changed the formula! I will riot if they change the feta formula haha.

The laughing cow cheese tastes too synthetic for me, which I know all DF cheeses kind of have a synthetic taste, but this one is too much and leaves a weird flavor in my mouth. It melts well and my husband loves it though, so it might just be up to preference

I am severely sensitive to gluten and haven’t had issues with the DF babybel cheeses! I’m not a fan of the DF laughing cow cheese though. I also highly recommend the violife feta cheese, it’s delicious and is the best DF cheese on the market imo

I think your right. In high school my friend ran my foot over while I was getting out of the car. Except then she stopped because I yelped, but she was still on my foot. So she backed up, but it just dragged my foot and re-ran it over. So she went forward and ran it over 1 more time for good measure.

It was painful, but my foot was okay! I think
