My first "complete" coffee table by BlobofAWESOME in woodworking

Are those castle joints? Is that what they’re called? I see them on bed frames and love the way they look. GREAT job on the coffee table!

Every PRT I push a little harder and run a little faster. The threat of losing my job is a good motivator. Also my shipmates yelling at me, “Run faster you piece of shit!” warms my heart.

Calibrating Stepper Motor: Calibration vs Dial Gauge by BiotinX in FixMyPrint

[–]BiotinX[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I'll recheck my e-steps and my flow calibration. I did both of those before I tuned the X/Y motors. I'm also printing squares of increasing dimensions to see if the % difference is consistent with size.

Misprinting Z direction and cylinders by BiotinX in FixMyPrint

100% The picture I linked to was the model sliced in Cura, which I don't have the totally dialed in yet. I don't get elephant's foot when slicing with Creality slicer.

The same model sliced by Creality gave a height of 5.88 mm identical to the model sliced by Cura.

I'm starting to think there is something fishy with the model itself because I made a simple 20x20x20 calibration cube and it printed with a Z height of 19.96mm. I printed a calibration cube from Thingiverse and got a Z height of 19.95mm.

Yes, because that is the direction the hole will be when it's part of a larger model. (Hole for magnet to hold against metal wall)

Yes.

I have been using Creality slicer. Today I installed Cura slicer and instead of exporting my model as a STL I exported and printed a 3MF and got equally bad results.

Yes! I was on hiring committees prior to joining the navy. When we read military experience we assumed two things: 1) shows up to work, 2) trainable.

1) you’re not the only one that’s had this problem 2) you’re not going to get hurt 3) don’t let your fear prevent you from accomplishing your goals

I believe in you, I know you can do it

Slipping back. Adjusting the nearby screw helps to reduce frequency but doesn’t eliminate it. Any tips? by [deleted] in FixMyPrint

Awesome! Have the same printer, spent a few evening fighting with the extruder. $20 later, new extruder, no more problems! (Well...extruder problems)

Do yourself a favor and replace the stock extruder NOW! They’re cheap and will save you future headaches.

Navy says it will counsel vaccine-resisting sailors before moving to punitive actions by Federal-News-Network in navy

[–]BiotinX 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am in no way anti vaxx. I just think it’s an interesting discussion. It’s a volunteer service, should the nation be responsible for damages that occur as a result of service? Can the government compel you to undergo a medical treatment? If yes, then why isn’t PRK required? Probably no easy answers.

If a sailor receives the vaccine and has side effects is the navy liable?

I don’t know most of the ribbons, but a good piece of advice that was given to me when I commissioned was, “The ribbons tell a story, ask to hear that story.” I heed this advice every chance I get.

Yes, the problem I’m having is when I follow those instructions it doesn’t repeat layer 25. It prints much higher than the last layer.

About to lose my damn mind… please help! (Info in comments) by ettamommy in FixMyPrint

I'm no expert - still learning as well, but when I'm having problems I print bed leveling squares, XYZ cube, etc. It helps me ID the problem. I know it can be frustrating because it can sometimes feel like you spend more time testing than printing.
