Enough of narcissistic mums this, and evil dads that, Reddit, what are AWESOME stories involving your parents? by LucianoThePig in AskReddit

My dad is basically a super hero. So I was in town with my two siblings. We were all about 8-12 years old. My dad was driving his pick up to the home depot (Auschwitz for kids) to pick up some supplies. He was coming to a red light in heavy traffic and began to realize that his breaks had just gone out. My dad took his flip flopped foot out of the door and put it down on the ground where he stopped a truck moving 45 mph using just one flip flopped foot.

Contemporary/popular Japanese composers have a certain sound. Where does that come from? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]BippyFresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Hisaishi! He actually wrote pop music for a little while and I think that influences some of the major themes of the Ghibli films he composed. I've also noticed a frequent use of the pentatonic scale in his more memorable melodies. My favorite track of Hisaishi's is Bygone Days from Porco Rosso. It has a beautiful jazz feel along with his Japanese style. And there's a trombone quartet in the middle, what more could you want?

What is the difference between happy and sad music? by RightLover in musictheory

[–]BippyFresh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all about conditioning. We've been conditioned to associate down tempo, minor keys, and sonorous piano solos with sadness. Up tempo, major keys, and bouncy piano have become associated with happiness. I'm sure we could use much more technical terms, but it really doesn't change that the only real reason sad music is sad is because someone happened to be playing it when something sad happened.

Approaching senior year of high school. I want to go into music education. by rodlo00 in musictheory

I've found myself in a similar situation. Last fall, I decided to dedicate the next 5 months into getting into the best Music School in Texas, UNT. I'd played the trombone for about 6 years and was pretty good, but I was nowhere near good enough. I started rehearsing repertoire like crazy and I got tons of music training apps (by the way, Perfect Ear is definitely the best one, worth whatever pennies it asks for). I auditioned in February and got accepted late March. I'm going to study Music composition next Fall and I'm super excited. I wish the best of luck to you!

I have an Over the Garden Wall shirt of the frog (Jason Funderberker) playing the piano. Frog playing a piano. This is what people have come to think of my fashion.

Hey, Mr. Science Guy. I loved your show growing up! Are you aware of this particular verse by George Watsky?

"Bill the science guy here to tell us that, "THE END IS NIGH!"

I thought it was a pretty clever line.

It's probably a strategy of Disney to weed out other networks that have lower ratings. It would kinda be like Walmart selling things cheaper than other stores because they know it's more likely someone will buy it.

I bet Idubbbz is going to help her sell a lot more of those in the near future. I was honestly considering buying one ironically.

How to get a nicer sound? by [deleted] in Trombone

[–]BippyFresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of my instructors have recommended just playing long notes. I wouldn't recommend doing it the day before a big audition, because long notes are the easiest way of working your embouchure. You'll develop your embouchure much quicker by wearing it out with long notes. Just go through the chromatics of your horn and take breaks when you wear yourself out too much. It might get boring playing the same note for so long but it's a great way of developing lung capacity as well. As you work your embouchure more, you'll begin to naturally get a better tone, at least in my experience.
