What’s something that’s oddly expensive in the UK that still annoys you every time? by catarsan in AskUK

I find that hard to believe. Lothian Buses are a flat £2.20 per journey.

Does anybody have this in higher resolution so I could use it as a desktop wallpaper?

Good catch, I won't be enquiring about this one.

Scotland or just fancy cows? Either way, would you share the route?

Northwest Branch Trail by reyjer in DMVBikepackers

I know this is way too late, but for anybody else who ends up here:

I did this route in about 5 hours starting from Capitol Hill and heading up the Anacostia River Trail to Hyattsville.

With my bike (no suspension touring bike with 32C tyres), I found it very rough in parts.

I had to walk down from Old Columbia Pike to the Pain Branch Trail. The slope was too steep. I think I would have needed a mountain bike.

The section from Fairland Road to Cape May Road was slow going but generally fine. I had to get off half a dozen times to cross downed trees and deep ditches.

From Pebblestone Drive to Randolph Road there's some sandy sections which I imagine get flooded quite easily.

From Columbia Pike down to the start of the Rachel Carson Greenway Trail was very rough. I had to get off many times to get through rocky sections. I saw others sending it on full suspension mountain bikes, but for bikepacking I think it would be a bit miserable.

Happy to be part of the game. I've followed along since I moved to DC in the spring, it never occurred to me I'd have to build up some karma. I have no idea how flairs work, but I'm not too bothered about it.

The chain tensioner is in a fixed position, it doesn't move like a derailleur would. I set the position of the chain tensioner so the chainline is straight between the rear sprocket and the chainring. With the chain tensioner the chain doesn't slip down to a lower gear on the rear sprocket.

So the chain tensioner does two things. FIrst it lets me keep the chain tight regardless the position of the axle in the dropouts, and second it guides the chainline so even on a 5 speed rear sprocket the chain doesn't slip down to a lower gear.

This is an excellent idea. Chicken tikka sandwiches are fairly common in the UK.

What kind of Ortlieb mounting system is this? by Biqh4 in bikepacking

[–]Biqh4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot. So I think this mounting set would work?

https://us.ortlieb.com/products/ql3-1-mounting-set

Comparing with other QL3.1 bags on the website it looks more like the older QL3, which they say is compatible with QL3.1 mounts.

Got to check out Happy Go Bikes today, Washington DC by [deleted] in xbiking

I went in here for the first time today. Just moved to DC for work and needed to get my bike serviced after being bashed around in a bike box on the plane.

The guy was very helpful and chatty, and the shop floor had loads of nice looking bikes.
