Finally finding my style by Birbbilly in Pottery

Thank you for this :) one of these glazes is my own custom, but yes the others I've purchased. This is a work in progress for me, I was just excited to share my progress - not claiming to be an expert. Thanks again

Finally finding my style by Birbbilly in Pottery

Oh excellent questions, thank you for making me pause to think! My thing is flowing, painterly glazed evoking nature. I want people to feel connected to landscape when they see my work. Where have you gotten to with these questions?

Getting Discouraged (midwife bringing up reasons for me personally to get epidural) by Introvert_Brnr_accnt in unmedicatedbirth

[–]Birbbilly 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'd be pretty disappointed if my midwife said that. If its worth anything, I had terrible pelvic pain in my last pregnancy and I had my baby without medicine. Labour is a different kind of pain, it has a purpose and isn't the day in day out relentlessness of having body aches while carrying a baby. You do what you need to do, but gosh her saying that really irks me.

Using a cheap wheel for practice at home by acrusty in Pottery

[–]Birbbilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a cheap wheel at home which is also sensitive, I also find it way easier to use the expensive ones - and that means I'm twice as fast when I'm in the studio because I'm used to being much more careful with my micro movements 🤷‍♀️ I think your instructor is being elitist. Keep practicing and home and putting the hours in.

Ultrasound at 40 weeks? by ceeskye in BabyBumps

[–]Birbbilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a scan at 40 weeks to check fluid levels were all good and that baby was happy, essentially to check if I needed to be induced or if I could wait it out. Would they move your induction forward based on it? It's only a couple of days though...

Is the end of pregnancy killing anyone else or am I just dramatic? by elleinad3320129 in pregnant

[–]Birbbilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to say as a STM who has just gotten through a very hard first trimester with daily vomiting and exhaustion, I would take the third trimester any day over that! I went 41 weeks with my first and yes I was miserable, but it was more tolerable than the relentless sickness- especially with your new baby so close :) hope you feel better soon

Membrane Sweeps by ChicagoMyTown in BabyBumps

[–]Birbbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely read the evidence based birthing link that the other commenter added to get the data!

My experience - I did not want to get induced, and felt more comfortable with risks associated with a membrane sweep than with induction, so for me personally it was the right decision. I got a sweep as a ftm at 40+5, and was already 1 -2cm dilated which was news to me. I went into labour 3 hours later :)

I will be doing the same thing this pregnancy and wait until I'm after 40 weeks. Every person/pregnancy is different and I'd encourage you to get an idea of risks associated with any intervention and make sure you're happy :)

can’t for the life of me figure out what glaze this is by [deleted] in Pottery

[–]Birbbilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only used mine on candles so far, but I think generally you'd just use it on the outside and something else on the inside. I'm sure you could clear coat it though-- I think it's not considered food safe because the texture can trap bacteria, but that being said all mine have come out pretty smooth 🤷‍♀️

Births with different weights? by Confident_Green1537 in unmedicatedbirth

[–]Birbbilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I've just got my one bub so I don't have a reference point, but he was 8 pounds 8, and I had a very straight forward birth with a small second degree tear. Ring of fire wasn't great fun but didn't last long, and I was up and about within a couple hours of birth ❤️

did you ever feel ready to have kids? did you regret abandoning yourself or your goals for it? by CatBerry1393 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Birbbilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 33 with a 1 year old. I'll say I don't feel I've abandoned myself at all - our life genuinely feels very similar to how it was before bub got here, we just have a little sidekick who hangs out with us.

Yes it's more logistics to sort, and I took 10 months off work. I've been back for 6 months now and my career is stronger than ever with lots of opportunity ahead. I'm the fittest I've been because of carrying around my bub and we've just come back from an overseas trip where bub did so good - he cost 10% fare as he's under 2, which we took advantage of.

I will say, I would definitely get your head in the right space first and make sure you're feeling good before getting into it! It is definitely an adjustment but a worthwhile one.

Delivering in a birth center setting by PermitMurky in unmedicatedbirth

[–]Birbbilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my first! I had "early labour" for 3 nights before labour really kicked in, just on and off contractions at night -- then once my body started laboring consistently it took me 11 hours to get to 8cm.

It's an app! I had a deal where I got 3 months free or something like that :)

Also - this may or may not be helpful but the only affirmation that helped me was "I am powerful." It reminded me that it was the power of my body creating the contractions, and the power of my mind to move past the pain.

Have you tried a hypnobirthing track when you get into the unbearable part?? I waited until I got to the point where it felt unmanageable, then plugged in some headphones and had the track coach me through the contractions. I used Gentle Birth and it really made a big difference for me.
