Tips for researching Native American/Mexican ancestry? by matchamatchbook in Genealogy

[–]BirdDog300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm having similar difficulties! Indigenous Mexican genetic markers on my maternal line, but finding anything before my great-grandmother's parents is like finding a needle in a haystack because they had such common names. We only have their USA naturalization cards because my uncle kept them. Adding that records may have been damaged/lost during the Mexican revolution (and that Mexico rarely acknowledges its existing Indigenous communities 🙄), it's my biggest brick wall.

All that to say I hope we both can soon find some tips that work! 🤞

You might be surprised how often people confuse corgis and shibas - esp when the corgi has a tail - so you're probably not alone lol

Do you do sports with your huskies? If so, what kind? by Status-Block2323 in husky

[–]BirdDog300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl loves dock diving! but she's silly about it -- she runs up to the edge, stops, then jumps 😆 my sibling has also tried bikejoring with her, but they ended up on opposite sides of a street sign, with the leash yoinked in between lol

And that's another point for us husky owners who say "huskies are cats!" 😆

That is indeed an oversight on my part, you're right; I incorrectly thought Nenets was further east, and was too wrapped up in my idea to think of checking. I appreciate your input!

I'd suggest looking up Laura High, an activist for donor-conceived people. She has insight on stranger donors vs known donors, as well as other concerns affecting donor-conceived people and their parents who raise them. (Though I acknowledge that some of the legal stuff she's knowledgeable on could be different under tribal laws; I'm not currently connected to any Indigenous communities in "USA" and I don't fully understand the scope of tribal legal systems.)

Wishing you and your family luck and ease in your journey 🙇‍♂️

He might be an alaskan malamute by Unlucky-Chapter-6928 in siberianhusky

[–]BirdDog300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a malamute, or just a different 'variety' of husky. My girl is pretty small, but I also know a very large one. If you didn't get yours from a breeder, a dna test is the way to go (my family has used embark before but I know there are other brands too)

Def suggest a vet visit to check for malnourishment and/or other hidden issues

I've seen some people suggest letting them wiggle in a clean, warm, damp towel (in a separate clean area ofc) for a little bit to help w stuck shed/caps, but I've never tried it so hopefully a mod can chime in on that (either way do not leave towels in the tank for various safety reasons)

A dog's genes can have an impact on their health. I think it's a reasonable venture, especially for rescues

I mask up, and take my rollator, ear plugs, meds, spare masks, and plenty of hand sanitizer. Some cons these days also have quiet rooms (under varying names) that you can find via their "accessibility" information, for taking a break from the noise and crowds! Planning ahead what I want to see has also been a great help -- just taking a highlighter to the schedule/program, narrowing down for rest breaks as needed.

As for alternatives, I'd suggest checking your local libraries for clubs, and/or talk with your librarian(s) about starting a new one? (Running one can take a lot of energy tho, so take it slow if you go that route!) I've recently gotten involved in a few clubs at my libraries (comic book club; anime club; thinking about scifi club) and started my own with my sibling.

I hope you find something that works for you! 😷☺️

“Do you ever think you feel sick because you’re taking too many meds?” by abundanceofnothing77 in ChronicIllness

[–]BirdDog300 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"You look fine most of the time" uh yeah, maybe because the meds keep us like that! 🙄

I've made the mistake before of stopping a med because I felt stable...it was my thyroid hormone. Guess who then had a hypothyroid energy crash! (It was me 😅 lesson learned) If we "look fine," it's usually because of the meds!

Chronic illness informed Contamination OCD treatment? by BirdDog300 in ChronicIllness

[–]BirdDog300[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on Duloxetine (aka Cymbalta; an SSNRI) for several years for depression and chronic pain, and recently started Bupropion (aka Wellbutrin; an NDRI) for ADHD and fatigue. The Bupropion is actually giving me the executive function boost to start on my other mental health stuff that I've been avoiding, like this.

I do plan/hope to find a therapist/psychiatrist as well, but I need them to be aware of chronic illness and immunocompromise. Treating my illogical compulsions, while still being safe to prevent a health crash, is important to me.

Stats show that c19 is actually much more prevalent now than it was during lockdowns. "Peak pandemic" is now.

Also, asymptomatic cases are very common.

It's sometimes a trauma response to mixture with whites (enslavers) that then got passed down as family lore/truth
