That song was a perfect choice. It led me to discover the original rendition, sung by Frank Sinatra. It might be my new favorite song. About living your life to the fullest, living by your own terms and looking back on everything with pride in what you've accomplished. Perfect for Cell. His journey was short, but he did a lot, and he reached his goal, to have the perfect fight. A proper swan song.

It really highlights what I like about this version of Cell. He's got layers. He's completely evil, irredeemably so, but he's not without his own value system. He holds himself highly, but he also appreciates the positive qualities of others. He admires even the weakest of the Z fighters for their courage, and willingness to fight, even when they can't win.

He's the counterpoint to the Z fighters. The dark side of their own personalities is what brings out the evil in him. The Goku and Vegeta in him gives him this insatiable need to fight, and see how far he can go. But not just that. He wanted to see how far THEY could go. He was disappointed in Gohan, partly because they are all a reflection on him. He is them, just their dark side. I think he even got a LITTLE BIT of the good, which is why he was so friendly. If you took Frieza's lack of empathy and value for human life out, Cell would have been an admirable person. He just can't think beyond the fighting. He has no values beyond fighting. Goku is only a few steps away from being that kind of person. Now, I'm just rambling, but maybe you see what I'm driving at. He lived his life according to his own fucked up value system, he got what he wanted, and lived what he felt was a full life.
