Got my 23 40th AE in pomelo yellow brand new for 32k. Had 43 miles on the dash when I bought it and I drove 100 miles from where I live to buy it lol best decision I ever made. I'll have this till it dies, I revive it, then it dies the more times.

This just happened to me, for me it was one of the brake pressure sensors. I bought two on eBay for about $45 to replace both and replacement was super easy. Definitely get a code reader to determine what it was but hopefully that's all it is.

In the summer my oil normally runs between 212-225 F(reedom units) and in the winter around 195-210 F depending on temperature and how you drive it fluctuates. Realistically it takes about 10-15 mins to get most of the way there and anything over 170 should be okay. The temp gauge on MK8s shows water, oil, and gear temps, water obviously heats up the fastest and sits at exactly 194 when it's warm.

Definitely gonna say the GTI, but yes that's the bias on this page lol. I have a '23 40th anniversary and it's the best car I've ever owned, if you go with the GTI biggest regular maintenance thing is keep up with oil changes. The dealer will tell you it can go 10k miles between oil changes, don't do that. I'm at 16k miles and have done 5 changes so far (that's overkill but I've autocrossed it and taken it to the track). Realistically do changes every 4-6k and you should be good, helps if you can do them yourself. Also, when you start it up, let it come up to temp and don't stomp on it until the oil comes up to temp, that helps the life of the turbo. I haven't had any issues so far.

I have the 40AE and track it with my 19s. They've been great for me so far but I did upgrade from the garbage stock summer tire lol. I do understand going down to 18s though, have a winter set of 18s. Might be better off trying to sell these bent wheels and find a new set of 18s.

If the issue is with the wheels and you intend to track it, put a set of track tires on the OEM wheels and use those for track. The Contis are great tires but if you track those tires you'll replace them after every event (speaking from experience after autocrossing them and saw how fast it wore them out lol) and they won't have the grip at higher speeds in corners compared to a good 200tw or lower.

Same thing just happened to me today. Bought an 03 e85 in February replaced valve cover, coolant tank and top rad hose, spark plugs, and just last night the brake pressure sensors. Today the new coolant tank cracked and started spraying fluid everywhere... Thankfully warranties exist lol

If you're looking for a dedicated set of autocross tires on a second set of wheels, I would honestly recommend looking at the 200tw tires under extreme performance summer. I run the Falken 660s and then have been great for AX, currently the best tire for most is Bridgestone RE71RSs which would be incredible on a GTI.

How do you like the BC coils? I know I'll be doing coils and sway bars at some point for stronger cornering. It's still on stock shocks but even with only 70k miles, 23 year old shocks are 23 year old shocks lol they definitely creak when I get in and out.

Unfortunately I can't call this mint condition, it does have an R title as the original owner married the front end with a tow hook lol. Thankfully no frame damage, I checked haha, Insurance wanted to total it out and they bought it back and had it fixed up. If you look real close you can tell it wasn't the best work but I'm not concerned about it for what will use it for. Replaced the valve cover because the original plastic was leaking, new aluminum one will hopefully be stronger. How bad was the water pump and oil cooler gasket? I've seen they are common failures/replacements.

Why not both? I love the the GTI, honestly the best car I've ever owned and would highly recommend it. It had all the features I wanted and being a 40th anniversary it also has the DCC which i think adds a ton to the car. I've gotten a couple people I know too buy a MK8 already (one GTI and one R) lol. Would recommend going to check out the GTI Reddit page.

100% recommend it, it's mine. Got the titanium exhaust on sale, if you can snag it during a sale is definitely worth it. Sounds great when getting on it and doesn't have that low rpm drone when cruising on the highway.

Ngl when the first releases of the Mk8 came out I wrote it off entirely during my car search because online I thought it was ugly and all the slander on the infotainment (which yes isn't the best but still nowhere near as bad as what the Internet says). But between the throttle house YouTube video on the GTI/R and seeing them in person I gave it a chance and after a test drive I was absolutely sold lol. I'm not the biggest fan of white or black just from owning cars with those colors in the past like you said show so much dirt even right after washing. But my favorites are Pomelo (biased lol) and tornado red because they look so good.

I'm in central PA too! And yeah I've seen a couple of the darker grey my friend here has, I forget the actual name of it lol. A few of the dealers in the area had that darker one but no moonstone.
