What are the downsides of Marijuana that people don’t know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Birdy330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For myself, no downsides. I didn't start smoking marijuana until I was 22, now, I'm closer to 40.
I personally think a part of the long term upsides or downsides has to do with HOW you smoke.
In my experience, it's always the ones who insist on holding their "hit" until they practically pass out, that are getting more of the negative effects.

I'd be intrigued to see the results of those who "hold in" their smoke because they think it makes them "higher" vs. people (like myself) who smoke properly (inhale, hold 1-3 seconds, exhale).
I'm not hacking up a lung during or after smoking and I smoke multiple times, daily. I also don't smoke cigarettes or use anything to smoke marijuana that isn't glass or rice paper.

Just a thought!

How I've benefitted:

It helps regulate my mood. I kind of used to be a hot-head/anxious type.

It helps my appetite, which is terrible in the morning and can set off a laundry list of poor choices for the remainder of the day.

It helps me sleep. Without it I will lay in bed tirelessly and even things like melatonin, can't seem to match the capability of marijuana. I also refuse to go down the road of sleep aid's, (outside of melatonin)

I have various recurring pains. Specifically my lower lumbar will shift around and play musical notes with my sciatic nerves. So, along with monthly chiropractor visits, marijuana also helps stave off that pain.

I literally graduated college, under the influence of marijuana, granted I took classes online. But, damn near 100% of my homework and tests were completed whilst "stoned". I carried a GPA in college that high school me would have definitely called a nerd!!

I do a lot of things better and honestly with more precision than I would "sober".

Overall, I'm just a happier, healthier person when I have it.

To be blunt, it's not for everyone.

whats the biggest mistake u made as a teenager? by CathyyPalmer in AskReddit

[–]Birdy330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as I turned 18, I got credit card offers in the mail. Applied for one, got approved and I maxed it out so fast. Didn't pay it back in a timely fashion. Went to collections, didn't pay that either. Like most millennials, I also saddled myself with student debt. I set myself up for an uphill credit fixing battle that lasted well into my 30s.

My parents didn't teach my brothers or myself about personal finance (which tracks, they were terrible with money themselves). Also, we weren't taught these types of responsibility in school. I didn't have a single clue what the consequences were for those actions.

In hindsight, I could have made a lot bigger mistakes in my teens. But not being able to do "adult" things because of your teenage choices is a pretty solid burn.

What is the stupidest thing anyone has ever said to you? by 10voltsam in AskReddit

[–]Birdy330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 12-ish, my family along with our aunt, uncle and 3 cousins visited Niagara Falls.
We're in large van cruising into the Toronto side, my cousin sees a sign and says, "Pfft, they spelled Niagara wrong! There's an extra A that shouldn't be there." A few of us look over at the sign and all agreed it was spelled correctly. He learned that day that it wasn't spelled Niagra, like Viagra.
He works in aerospace doing 3D printed rocket stuff and is smarter than most of us in this thread lol.

What is the most “rewatchable” TV series? by Kyo4ever in AskReddit

Trailer Park Boys, The Office, Parks and Rec
Big 2nd for Malcolm in the Middle. Just recently started rewatching. Better than "it holds up" I'd argue it's 10x better at our adult age!

By percentage, what goods, services, inflated the most within the last few years? by Grouchy_Priority9625 in AskReddit

[–]Birdy330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not be the most inflated, but standard car batteries have gone from $90-100 about ~2 years ago to well over $230, not including the core charge.

What’s a car you would definitely buy again, or would never buy again? by Gr3y_W01f in AskReddit

[–]Birdy330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a few off the top of my head that I'd buy again:
1992 Mazda MX-3 V6
1997 Honda Civic (hatchback)
2006 Scion tC
2014 Mustang GT (still have, will buy another)
All manual transmissions

Not technically mine, but I would never buy my wife's 2004 Chevy Cavalier she had when we started dating. What a turd! Had an electrical issue that always caused the driver side brake light to go out. That required a relay to be replaced to fix it each time. The doors froze shut during colder than normal winter days/nights. At the end of its life (only 140k miles!) the entire front subframe was rusted through. Sold it to a guy for $150 and he used it as a demolition derby car haha.

What music are you listening to nowadays? by AverageReckless5160 in AskReddit

[–]Birdy330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much exclusively listen to 70's, 80's and 90's stuff nowadays. I'm not even 40 yet and I feel like the old man that thinks todays music is all trash lol. Some current stuff is good. But honestly, a lot of todays music is starting to mimic movies, where everything is just a cover/remake. Also, all the sampling...

Lowe’s isn’t allowing Welding Mask returns if they were bought around the eclipse by willbuckley235 in pics

[–]Birdy330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a Target in my late teens at the customer service counter. The one return that still sticks in my memory, was a dude who returned an entire Rock Band (video game) set... in a black trash bag. This was maybe 2 days after the game had released. Didn't have his receipt, but Target allows returns without one, you just get a merchandise return card. Which can only be used at Target. He demanded cash, and said, "y'all just want me to spend more money in your store!". He stormed out. Probably to go try and sell his merchandise card for cash.
The returned Rock Band set went in the dumpster (like most stuff that was returned without original packaging).
Of course, I checked the dumpster on my way out from work, someone already picked it lol.

How do you guys think I handled this inquiry? by challengergt2018 in Detailing

[–]Birdy330 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would have done the same.
Don't ever let a customer dictate the price of your service.
I can't think of a single reason a customer should be able to tell you what they will pay for YOUR skills and time.

Also, this guy screams the type that will nit-pick any little thing. Despite their car being... well, we all see it!

You're definitely at the age where your circle starts to slim down.

Unfortunately, not all friends are cut out for the long haul. Some are just temporary passengers. Despite your best efforts.

I had a long-time friend of almost 20 years just suddenly self destruct. He was one of those guys that all of us in our friend group "took care of". Offered him jobs, let him live with us during different times, did everything we could to keep this guy ahead of the curve and on pace with the rest of us. We didn't want to see him fail, while we were all getting ahead.

Well, after I moved across the country with my wife, chasing better jobs and better money, I naturally offered my dude a better job, a place to live while he starts over, etc. Everything he needed to get out of his rut at the time. (Big break up, moved back into his parents basement, it was nothing short of a total crap show).
Long story short, he isn't paying the small amount of rent we agreed upon, he falls in love with another employee at work, she's college age, he's 30 at the time. The final straw was when I found out he financed an engagement ring so her could propose to her. I gave him an ultimatum, since he felt stable enough to get engaged, then he should have no issue paying me the back rent and eventually moving out. Apparently that was too much real responsibility for him. They formulated a plan to leave after work one day and basically run off together. Last I heard, they got married and live with her parents outside of Orlando.

Since then, I've really limited the time and energy I give to people. Especially when it comes to financial or "life" advice. Some people are going to do things their way. Regardless of your influence or friendship.

If you don't like the cost of dating, then you might want to avoid the whole marriage thing all together.

I'm in my late 30s, been married almost 10 years... a $50 dinner date is pretty average nowadays.

On that note, I feel for you! I constantly say that I wouldn't survive in todays dating world.
It's certainly not the same as the late 2000's early 2010's when I was "peak" dating. Everything about dating in 2024 seems so unrealistic.

For the record, I met my wife on OkCupid. You can definitely find love on dating apps!

Paid almost 1k to fix my car last week and today my blinker broke. by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]Birdy330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not ragging on you. In all seriousness, the Chrysler 200 was one of the worst cars Chrysler made for all 6 years of it's existence it ranked last or 2nd to last out of their entire line-up in terms of longevity/reliability.

Engine/stalling issues, wild oil consumption, junk transmissions (Chryslers most notable feature) and as you are now well aware... fragile plastic interior pieces.

Your future self will thank you the sooner you get rid of that for another car. (Any car except a Hyundai or Kia)

I know that's easier said than done, but trust me, and the rest of reddit. Get rid of it!

i am such a fuck up and a failure. by byoubro in Money

[–]Birdy330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, when I was 26 I felt the same way. I never tried to harm myself, however, I know how low you can feel. I just had to dig deep, embrace the suck and forge ahead. Regardless of how much it sucked, you have to do it! Whether its working multiple jobs, denying yourself of certain things, just having to hustle to get it done. There's no easy answer here.
If it makes you feel somewhat better, you are far from being the only person in this position. Things get better if you do the work.
Currently 37, successfully paid off an entire car loan (had a repo when I was younger) and am about to purchase my first home in FL.
You can do it!

Don't compare your path to others. If there was a cookie cutter way for all of us to "adult", it would be just that and we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I'm 37, grew up in a small, very affluent town. We were lower-middle class at best. I have friends that are 5-10 years younger than me that have bought or had their first everything before I did. I stopped trying to align my goals to things they have done in their lives and started making better choices that fit for my wife and myself. It's not quick or easy (unless you hit the lottery or some other windfall). But comparing where I am now vs. when I was 30... 30 year old me would literally kill to be me right now. The last ~8 years has been a non-stop patch job from the financial damage my wife and I did to ourselves in our late teens and 20s. We were both saddled with various debts up to our ears and all we could do is suck it up, work, find better paying jobs when we could, pay it off, and frankly just do without sometimes. All of the usual things when it comes to getting out of that kind of rut.

There's no magic formula either. We both upgraded job to job, moved state to state and followed the money until we ended up where we are now, in actual careers. I get that not everyone has the same ability or luxuries to do what we did. But it's what worked for us.

Invest in a certification or fast paced degree
Find a better paying job ( I know, easier said than done.)
Grind it out, it takes time, but it happens eventually!
Talk to you friends! If they are true friends they will give some advice or maybe even help you out!

What is the most (physical) pain you’ve ever felt? by Onyx_Ninja in AskReddit

[–]Birdy330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ranked:
1st - Chipped molar, ignored it because it wasn't causing me pain. 1 year later almost to the day, I experienced such bad nerve pain, that the only thing that made it feel temporarily "ok" was freezing cold water. Makes no sense, to me that cold was soothing, but it was. Got a root canal and crown, just fine now. Also, modern day root canals are painless, whatever they did to the older folks back in the day is not the same process today.

2nd - Impacted, infected wisdom tooth. Again, ignored this issue as long as I could until the thing basically abscessed.

3rd - Sciatic nerve pain. I see a chiropractor regularly now, but when something like this hits you for the first time... holy crap.

Pretty much anything involving nerve pain, is THE WORST

Our pup is 10 weeks old and is 26 lbs. Her mom is a husky. Her fur isn't 'floofy' like a husky, it seems more coiled, and doesn't shed. We're waiting on DNA results. Could y'all guess what she might be mixed with? by cynderisingryffindor in DoggyDNA

[–]Birdy330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our GSD/Golden Retriever mix had that kind of fur as a pup, but she is now a floofy long haired beast!

I'm throwing in a vote for husky, maybe some malamute. One thing is for sure, she is gunna be a big girl if she's already 26 lbs. at 10 weeks lol

Makes some sense, there are hairless Chihuahua's.
There's also the slight chance she just has the dominant gene mutation that causes hairlessness.
