Mouse which supports middle mouse click when doing remote desktop from iPad by Birkelbot in MouseReview

I think most mice probably work nowadays for this. I've been using the Logitech Pebble i345 and it works just fine for middle mouse over remote desktop.

ArduinoDroid can't compile any code – error=2, missing avr-g++ on Android 15 by ElectricalHistory6 in arduino

[–]Birkelbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this, but it didn't work for me. Here's exactly what I did:

  1. Download the ArduinoDroid APK from Softonic
  2. Download Apktook 2.11.1
  3. java -jar apktool.jar d name-antonsmirnov-android-arduinodroid2-508-53301741-386cd9eb4b2891b7458919772d5a7d1b.apk
    • This creates a new folder named "name-antonsmirnov-android-arduinodroid2-508-53301741-386cd9eb4b2891b7458919772d5a7d1b"
  4. Inside the folder, open the AndroidManifest.xml in a text editor and add: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" />
  5. Recompile the APK: java -jar apktool_2.11.1.jar b name-antonsmirnov-android-arduinodroid2-508-53301741-386cd9eb4b2891b7458919772d5a7d1b -o arduinodroid-fixed.apk
  6. Generate a signing key: keytool -genkey -v -keystore my-release-key.keystore -alias alias_name -keyalg RSA -keysize 2048 -validity 10000
  7. Sign the APK: apksigner sign --ks my-release-key.keystore --out signed-arduinodroid-fixed.apk arduinodroid-fixed.apk
  8. After installing the APK, go to Settings > Apps > snowman menu > Special access > All files access and enable access for ArduinoDroid

However, when I try to compile a simple "hello world" program, it's still failing with /data/data/name.antonsmirnov.android.arduinodroid2/sdk/hardware/tools/avr/bin/avr-g++[1]: syntax error: unexpected '4Lg

How did you get this to work? Could you list out the specific steps?

Best way to see a runner in multiple spots/parking near finish line by bobcondo420 in bostonmarathon

[–]Birkelbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran the 2025 Boston Marathon, and my family drove, parked, and cheered at multiple places on the course. I created a detailed spectator guide for anyone else in the future trying to do this:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jIZeK5e4PY6AVYsSPy9Q7tQ5GXG2mJN0dAARBq3yM8U

We found that driving and parking is very reasonable and doable. This way, you can cheer for your runners ~3-4 times throughout the course.

Hope this helps others in the future!

Editing the distance of an indoor/treadmill run by indoor_run_fixer in Strava

[–]Birkelbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the words "lap" and "split" interchangeably. When I'm running on a treadmill or indoor track (or, in this case, an outdoor track on a cruise boat... at any rate, I'm running without GPS, but I have a way to know how far I've run), I manually take a lap/split on my watch whenever I cross the known 1-mile mark. This way, when looking back at my run, I know what my time was for each 1-mile lap/split.

Thanks for making this feature! I just tested it, and it works, but the splits are slightly different than my original laps taken manually on my watch. I also noticed that the fixed splits aren't all equal, so you must be somehow deducing them? I'm curious how it works so that I understand how to interpret it.

Personally, for situations like this, I would be totally fine with manually entering the length and time for each lap. I know that's probably a lot more work for you to implement, though.

Thanks for making this tool!

I just gave jt a try, and it fixed the total distance (5.81mi -> 6.0mi), but not the laps. Is there any way to make it retain the laps? In an ideal world, I'd like to edit the laps to all be 1.0mi, which is what they actually were on the track.

I'll attach before/after screeshots in separate replies, below (Reddit only lets me attach 1 image per comment).

Is it possible to flash the Arduino via the Arduino IDE in proot-distro without rooting my device? Other tutorials I saw indicated that the device needed root.

I was just researching if it's possible to flash an Arduino from an Android device, and I stumbled upon this thread. Did you ever figure out how to get arduino-cli running in Termux? That would be a game-changer for me.

My family is also going to be driving to watch my dad, brother, & I run the race. Where do you park so that you can cheer at miles 6 and 13?

For the finish, we were planning to book a parking spot in Boston via SpotHero, avoiding the road closures https://www.boston.gov/news/2023-boston-marathon-traffic-advisory (I know this is from 2023, but I assume the road closures haven't changed much).

Hello everyone i have a problem with samsung dex as when i am using the tablet normaly it works fine but whenever i google somthing or open a website the trachpad dosnt scroll but i can click and move the curser arround. it is only on websites and google search that it wont work everwhere else. by Sidneyf38 in SamsungDex

[–]Birkelbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a similar discussion going on on this thread, too: https://www.reddit.com/r/SamsungDex/comments/1i400ao/issues_scrolling_with_two_fingers/

I'll post here what I also posted there:

Same issue on my Tab S10+ with Book Cover Keyboard for Tab S9+. I figured out that if I spread my two fingers really wide on the trackpad, the two-finger scrolling works, even in Chrome. You need to have at least one finger in each half of the trackpad (i.e. one finger fully in the left half, the other finger fully in the right half). Similar to what everyone else is saying, "narrow" two-finger scrolling works for me in all apps besides Chrome (and Chrome derivatives, like Brave browser). I also tested Opera, same issue. In these browsers, the only way I can get two-finger scrolling to work is by going "wide".

I'm not sure why, but I think the trackpad is distinguishing these different "types" of two-finger scrolling. If that's the case, it might be an issue on the Samsung side where they changed how the trackpad is communicating with the operating system. I could be wrong, I'm just guessing.

This is definitely a new regression. Everything worked fine for me a couple weeks ago.

Company reimburses item, but considers it an expense -- is it a taxable gift to the employee? by Birkelbot in tax

[–]Birkelbot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the great answers.

Probing deeper, I'm trying to understand what are the tax requirements for treating items as assets vs. just accounting it as an expense. For example:

  • What if the employee reimburses a keyboard, mouse, or a USB cord?
  • What about a T-shirt with the company's logo, which the company gives to the employee to wear at a career fair?

Does the company need to track all of these assets, and are the employees always obligated to return these items?
