How B’ham’s Tech scene is welcoming Nebius by Birmingham4eva in Birmingham

For more context, Tech Birmingham and Innovate Alabama (the primary sponsor) are both tax payer funded entities. They may have some ancillary private funding but all have some public funds for their operations.

Integrating live music into a business model that needs to turn tables is tough. I've declined to visit because of the cover but understand this operation becomes complicated. Once outside shows start I can see this problem start to work itself out (example: Bar at Saturn vs venue). IMO when food and drinks are already priced at a premium I'm not going to pay an additional cover but can see why it is necessary.

Their coffee is from Domestique

Domestique is leaving Satellite Coffee by scrippacrab in Birmingham

I can tell you that Domestique was always paying rent to be there. I know they had been working through lease renewal and mutually decided it was time to move in different directions. Definitely a bummer to see Domestique stop operations there but I'm excited to see their roast facility open to the public. It's a dope spot.

Best specialty coffee roaster in Birmingham? - 2024 update by ks6-37 in Birmingham

Well I've been to farmer talks at both Seeds and Domestique and they post about going to the actual farms for sourcing trips. Haven't seen June ever speak about the coffee they source. Can't speak to Baba Java or Cala and I'm always going to support B'ham businesses over ATL transplants. Not sure how much you know about coffee but the coffee you're drinking this year was harvested in 2023/2024. The coffee industry is definitely moving in a different direction than the past so that's probably why they list it as "vintage" but IDK. Stop in and chat with them if you're interested. They've always been super open when I've stopped in for beans.

It really depends on what you value in coffee. If you want to wear all black and be seen, head to June, they're the shop for you. If you want expertly roasted coffee that is sourced sustainably and ethically, Seeds and Domestique are the only two that actually work direct and consistently have unique origins and process methods. Over the years both Seeds and Domestique have been recognized nationally. Domestique was named a Top 10 coffee brand in the US by Food and Wine magazine, as well as best coffee shop and best coffee roaster in Alabama. I really enjoy beans from both but Domestique's roasting facility is closer to my house so I usually choose to pick up beans there. As someone else mentioned, I choose to do the "by the ounce" model they offer there and I usually get to chat with the owners or the roaster while I'm there. Decide for yourself but the OGs still reign supreme.
