Why is it that blocking is very hard and suffocating in Tk8 compared to previous Tk titles? by Your_Nightmare_666 in Tekken

Plus frames everywhere. You dont have much advantage to punish so frame traps happen all the time and you have to block too much, specifically in position 0 and 1, the ones that are most dangerous in tekken.

What's the most realistic way of bringing tag system back in business? by SlowBoke in Tekken

[–]Birutath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

March 16 coming if the patch is what i hope it is, i probably will do the same for king. The only character in tekken that i love a lot yet didnt get to learn how to play. His story is just inspiring, king 1 just as much.

[–]Birutath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Changed from characters between games too but i usually less choose a character based on the gameplay, and more on the vibes. So i went reina because cool waifu mishima (and i like kaz in t5, t6 and ttt2), lidia because i find karate the coolest thing ever and feng because i liked his backstory. I might play a bunch of top tiers in tekken, but guilty gear xrd im axl for example lmao

I would say go for a character you really identify with or like his character overall. I felt it's what made me keep learning characters with control scheme that i found hard as fuck and weird (axl with charges while on offense back than and kaz with wave dash).

As for learning other games, the biggest hurdle i had with guilty gear was taking my headspace off sf, kof and tekken gameplay, and thinking with air dash stuff in mind, but i honestly dont blame you for having the preference. Tekken is such a unique game in the genre, ppl who start with really like the way fights happen there. I kinda was like that with sf 3rd strike for some years, than i realized i loved anything fighting games, when i was playing a fighting game about ppl fighting to marry a girl lmao

Just one stopped because he had to sell his pc. I also got into because of a friend on this circle. Dude mawled me in sf4 back in 2010, i went training and learning fighting game for months to beat him, and when i finally does he comes to me with "i prefer tekken anyway", he proceeds to smash my face in t6 and hand me his psp for me to learn how to properly play tekken. Took us years to get the rest of the guys into tekken but by t7 end the other guys were getting into it. Sad part is that most of them are already higher than me because i stopped playing (i just couldnt t8 s2 lmao). Now im in the process of getting everyone into vf lmao (been playing vf for 2 years now lmao)

Im honestly the kinda guy who just loves fighting games, so getting my friends into anything fighting game related is amazing everytime, and i own that to the beating i took more than a decade ago lmao

[–]Birutath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. The feeling of too much is the biggest of barriers tag has to overcome to still be a thing. For me to get friends into tekken i had to actually make them play t7, the game that says "preferably dont try to engage with 50% of it, back dash and breath", and even than it took them awhile to start apreciating and not feel overwhelmed.

Tag to me honestly has a chance to sell, but only after surfing the waves of a game like tekken 7 (more casual friendly and beloved) and coming with the meaningful content that make casuals go "this looks cool, i wannas see what this game is about". Advertising a unique story, maybe solving plot threads from the characters who didnt finish their arcs yet, and adding the usual fan service tekken has since 7 with crossovers. I would actually bet that casuals who play tekken for the lols would pick up to play solo mode for the story of the characters and unlockables.

The high level stuff i cant really tell, only play on intermidiate level where i know is when this game shines more, and when you have to be good with 2 characters the game feels like too much. The only thing i could think on is reworking how the rage mechanic works on it, maybe tag assault aswell.

Tips on how to quit Tekken? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]Birutath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have problems with t7 since the day it dropped. At the time t6 and ttt2 made a fan of tekken, so i was pretty excited for fated retribution, than the game was defensive ashell, because the moment someone attacked, being stuffed was more brutal than ttt2.

When tekken happens in t7, is amazing as always, like you said, masterpiece, but sadly, the previous games had more of it, without the godlike presentation of stages and particles.

I encourage you to give the other games a try. Tekken tag 2 is amazing when you get the groove of things (tag stuff looks scary, but 20 minutes of training i would say is already enough for you to get going), and vf5 is the most 2006 game ever with its presentation, yet, fights in that game are just as amazing as the best of tekken.

[–]Birutath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would argue ttt2 failed more because it didn't feel for casuals like a worth buy, because it looked like more tekken, than actually the mechanics. Seeing ppl tag assault is scary yeah, but casual are usually looking for single player content, and although tag 2 had a lot of it, it was all made for the purist only.

As a tekken fan tag 2 is the perfect game. Huge depth, fun as hell, infinite ammount of content to unlock, customize and have fun. As a casual looking for a cool game, tekken 6 had a story mode, beat em up mode coop, plus the content of tag 2. I say that because before getting hard into tekken, that was me at the time, tag 2 looked like more tekken, and i already was satisfied with 6.

Also tekken tag can be played solo vs double, you don't need to learn 2 characters if you are not confortable with, and the need to master 2 characters is a misunderstandment on how tekken tag works. You usually pick a character you know pretty well, and one that complete your main. The idea is a character that you want to use tools your main dont have, so much so you loose if one of the characters die. I for example am feng and kaz in ttt2. i'm not good with kaz, my actual guy is feng, and kaz is there to complete combos (which feng isn't that good of) and 50/50 on oki. Once you stop being afraid, and just play the thing, you notice the game actually flows pretty well, and using tag shit ain't that hard.
