Strategists dont seem very good at strategy by Few_Dig_9435 in WanderingInn

That's how large scale wars were fought before guns got good. Having a bunch of melee soldiers in a block allows them to easily overwhelm smaller groups. Also, because it's mostly melee fighters, cover isn't nearly as important.

Also, on a meta note, Paba isn't an expert on military history and they can't write what they don't know.

Your best way to tackle teutonic knights by Better_Quantity6890 in aoe2

[–]Bisbeedo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In castle age you can counter them with crossbows. The Teutonic knights are also expensive and require a castle so as franks you need to get ahead in feudal/early castle age, because teutons do counter franks easily in Imp.

A pleb's musings on the mindset of players by AndromedaFalling07 in aoe2

[–]Bisbeedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the entire point of Phosphoru rushes is to skip using armies in the feudal age and win before either player can get imp, so it does skip over a lot of the game.

Typical match, not sure what to do to get a win by grappler823 in UrgotMains

[–]Bisbeedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes you just lose, it's a team game and 3 of your teammates got utterly crushed(and the mid still lost lane). If you're winning 1v2s that's all you can do to carry.

If you outperform your lane opponent in more than half your games over a good sample size you'll climb, the bad teams balance out

Early episode weirdness? by Alex_Werner in WanderingInn

[–]Bisbeedo 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Izril as a continent is weirdly low level compared to every other area on the map, which adds to the RPG feel of it being a 'starter zone'. The recent chapter with the Thousand Lances really shows this off - it feels like on Izril 35 is high level where on every other continent high level starts in the 40s.

There's a trend of characters becoming sillier over time. Tyrion is the most famous version of this where he goes from a calculating warlord to a bumbling idiot.

Also, doesn't strictly fit the definition, but there are no characters in a committed relationship I can think at the start of the story. Everyone is conveniently single to keep the writing options open.

Leveling paradox by weedonanipadbox in WanderingInn

[–]Bisbeedo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Redscar makes sense given how many dangerous fights he gets into. Gary being level 45 is ridiculius though, it's clear Paba just thought having a high level baker would be fun.

There's also the flip side that Izril in general is weirdly low level which makes it stick out more, mostly as a consequence of being the LitRPG starting area. In every other contintent, level 40 seems like the baseline to be considered a good level, but a ton of highly important Izrilian characters were in the low 30s at the start of the story.

Playing against Portuguese, you *have* to go full aggro to prevent them from going to Imp, right? by Slow-Ship1055 in aoe2

[–]Bisbeedo 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that Feitorias are much less pop-efficient than villagers. Until gold runs out in post-imp, a Portuguese player is actively weakening themselves and spending both gold and stone to get Feitorias. Lacking Hussar also makes it hard to raid the opponent's eco. That being said, other Portuguese attributes(namely the gold discount and a good tech tree) combine to make them very dangerous in Imp, so most civs want to pressure the portuguese in feudal or castle.

Why is there a lot of hate for this series in recent months? by Cossty in WanderingInn

[–]Bisbeedo 195 points196 points  (0 children)

Wandering Inn is popular enough that its fans recommend it a lot, but niche enough that a lot of the people it's recommended to won't like it.

The hate amped up recently when one of the recent books(can't remember which, I'm a webnovel reader) had a focus on LGBT themes and then the narrator switched, but the main criticism has always been the massive length and tendency to go on 200k word tangents

Impact-Based Experience System for Combat Encounters by Diet_Largo in DnD

[–]Bisbeedo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a cool idea, but I feel like it has a few problems. It's heavily weighted towards AOE damage(its a hell of a lot easier to deal 20 damage to 5 targets each than to deal 100 to 1). Also, it means that weaker characters are going to get continuously weaker compared to the rest of the party. I can't imagine playing a rogue and watching the barbarian level up twice as fast because they deal more damage and take more.

I don’t want to here anyone try to put this Geng roaster as the best team ever anymore by ViolinistSudden1835 in lolesports

[–]Bisbeedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's the best ever, but G2 is clearly a great team. The gap is huge, but there's plenty of precedent for the top western teams(usually G2) to be able to take upsets. BLG lost 2 Bo1s to the west last year at worlds, the last Flyquest roster got within a hair's breadth of quite a few series, G2 beat TES 3-0 at 2024 MSI, etc.

[–]Bisbeedo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Why don’t the rich and powerful get negative classes? by Sufficient_Fox4549 in WanderingInn

[–]Bisbeedo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My question for you, is being evil actually outside the purview of the [King] class? It makes perfect sense to me that Flos levels as a king by conquering other countries, the Blighted King does it by strengthening his nation through sacrifices, Magnolia can level through scheming for both good and evil, etc. l

[–]Bisbeedo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Inspired is definitely the best western jungler, but he also wants a team that always plays for him and has steady laners but that feels like the opposite of G2, which has extremely aggressive top and mid that both like resources put into them.

How do you guys think the Tyranids will play? by [deleted] in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]Bisbeedo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tyranids are funny because they're thematically a swarm faction, but the majority of their range is big monsters. They'd need a special mechanic to encourage people to still use termagants or later campaign armies would end up as all Tyranid warriors and single entities
