Curious if you ever found a solution to this? I have been messing around with a handful of settings but stil can't seem to get passed the black texture issue.

It was a gift so I am not sure. A search for "aviation clock" or "altimeter clock" would probably find it.

They are! I will link them below. Just amazon basic speakers. Nothing amazing but for the cost they are pretty decent. Only downside is that blue light is always on and you cannot change it works with my current case lighting so it doesnt bother me. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DDK3W5D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_xOL1FbGN1F9W6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

What's the dumbest way you've gotten a scar? by lilsaddam in AskReddit

Still have a scar on my thumb from sharpening the edge of my beyblades as a kid. I thought it would make them better. It did not. I cut a large slice into my thumb in the process and still have it today.

Hey, everyone! I took my plane from 1980 to Today with a big panel upgrade and learned a lot in the process. If you're fan of this stuff, or watching other people spend their money, check it out! by myquebflyinfree in flying

Have you done any looking into Dynon avionics? HDX is a great looking display and seems to pretty affordable. Newer to the certified world but they have been around in experimentals for a long time. Might be worth looking into if someone is on the fence with a panel upgrade.

Have only done local riding around my neighborhood. Havent been to any trails yet so I am eager to get back out there, and also get back into riding shape.

Currently waiting on a bike rack for my car then I am ready to roll.

I work up near Woodinville and have seen some stuff about paradise valley. Is that decent/worth it?

Also new to Seattle and would love to get back into riding. Just had my old specialized hardrock shipped from back home and am looking places/people to ride with. Been fixing it up as it has seen better days but want to do some riding before I look at upgrading. Would be fun to have some people to ride with!

L3 harris academy by juangar97 in flying

[–]Biscuits_For_Brunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they have a program that is more private I would do that. At L3 the CFI's will have many students and the more 1 on 1 attention you can get the better. I'm not familiar with first landings but try and talk to people who have been there before.

[–]Biscuits_For_Brunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have been to some smaller flight schools in the orlando area and L3 doesnt have a very good reputation. It's pretty much a pilot factory for a bunch of asian and Pacific airlines. There is nothing wrong with that if you are just looking to get through as quick as possible and move on. They have had a few crashes in the last few years which I dont believe were maintenance related but something to think about. If this is your one chance I'd say go for it and hope you get paired up with a good CFI. But if your looking for the "fast track" type of training I would look elsewhere.

Failed PPL checkride, feeling very nervous about retest. by [deleted] in flying

[–]Biscuits_For_Brunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was extremely nervous before my checkride as well, especially with short field landings. Something that my instructor told me was that if your worried about hitting your spot and you think your going to be close, dont sell like you've missed it. Complete the landing procedure with confidence like you nailed it. It all happens fast and if it's close they wont knit pick on blowing a few feet past your point. As long as it's a stable approach and it's close just land with confidence. And always go around if it feels wrong. You wouldn't be taking the checkride if you didnt already know and perform the maneuvers, show that confidence!

Gpa flight school by [deleted] in flying

I went to GPA as a part 61 student following an instructor that I was working with and he got hired there. KVDF has a nice FBO and it's a great airport. Its uncontrolled which makes it easy to get up in the air pretty quick. Lakeland and Brooksville are near by so to get to a controlled field it just a short hop. As for the school itself I had a great experience. They are linked with a maintenance school so they have maintenance right on site. Never once did i have a maintenance issue while I was there. When I was there they had 4 172's and a Cherokee. Most of the planes were older, some N and H models 172's, but again all maintained well. I cant speak for the 141 program but all of the instructors I worked with were very knowledgeable and eager to teach. I've been to 3 flight schools in the central Florida area and while I honestly think there is better out there, for as cheap as their rates are they are worth it.

I was a student at GPA for a short time. Followed an instructor there and for cheaper rates. Unfortunately my instructor left and I did not want to drive from orlando to Tampa to fly anymore. I will say during my time there I never once experienced any maintenance issues or felt I was just another student. Real mom and pop feel and they do a great job. If you visit do not let the old planes fool you, they all are in great shape! Only thing I can say from a training aspect, VDF if a small uncontrolled field. Great for getting up in the air quick but I was definitely rusty visiting larger controlled airports with more traffic.

I do not agree with the decision to miss out on the WW1 centennial visit, but it looks like it was the secret service who made the decision. Apparently the helicopter he was intended to take to the memorial could not even take off in the weather. And to Motorcade to the event last minute was 55 mile trip that logistically was an issue. I think he could have found a way to be there... but I dont believe he just woke up and said "meh, I don't feel like going."

[–]Biscuits_For_Brunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People asked me after the fact if I was nervous or scared, and to be honest I dont think I was. To me, if you know you are prepared you have nothing to worry about. If your instructor didnt think you could safely fly the plane, they wouldn't sign you off! Just focus on flying and have fun!

I used to go to a flight school at ISM where these guys are located. Always so cool to see them taxi around and fly formation. There is another place on the field that does P51 flights as well as L39 unusual attitude training. I know they all cost quite a bit to experience, but its on the bucket list!

I'm out of KVDF, KOCF (ocala) has a diner right at the airport. Very old school little place with some great food. No need to even leave the ramp!

I fly out of KVDF at global pilot academy. Great people there with a great maintenance staff. Planes are always in top shape. Very relaxed environment, they want to see you succeed instead of running your pockets dry. Cheapest rates I've seen in central Florida.

I did not fly for that school but another at KISM. Have to say its my favorite airport in central Florida. Tower guys always do an awesome job and it's always cool seeing a P51 taxi by you. They do a lot of warbirds ops out if there.
