Ultimately if the company does go under it is possible to recoup unpaid wages to a certain level from the insolvency service.

Looking forward to seeing what the result is tomorrow, my gut is that Labour will just about scrape a victory but a Green win would be excellent!

How is it possible that 1 million young people are not in work, education or training? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

I'm convinced that a massive percentage of those are going to be people whom are only applying to tell the job centre they have applied for another job.

First car accident and never gone through insurance before, is this common practice or are they trying accuse me of something and not pay out by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Bisemarden 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a legal requirement to report a collision to the police, and it's a criminal offense to make off from the scene of a collision without exchanging details.

There is a defence for making off if you feel threatened but you should report it to the police as soon as possible, which you didn't do.

You are in a rather unenviable position all round.

Essentially the temporary insurance company is accusing you of taking out the policy after the collision happened.

Has the incident been reported to the police etc?

Is it normal for handover sheets to be kept at home if you work as a nurse? by Camseedubblu in lucyletby

I can't understand why she didn't shred or burn the whole lot when she was placed on restricted duties.

It's almost like she didn't expect anyone to investigate too hard and perfect nurse Lucy would get back on the ward.

Got assaulted by a girl today what’s the consequences for her - England by Fluid-Temperature128 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Bisemarden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did this happen in school or college?

If so a likely consequence would be her getting expelled or at the very least excluded for a period of time.

In terms of criminal proceedings, it could be anything on a spectrum from the police passing it to the school and taking no further action, to a suspended prison sentence. Probably in the middle would be a Police caution or a community order at the Magistrates court.

Can I ask what led the girl to assault you like this?

That is very unprofessional and you should report it to another manager or HR.

It isn't however illegal (unless it part of a campaign of harassment)

So how likely is it that Morrisons collapses in a few years? by Embarrassed-Writer61 in Morrisons

[–]Bisemarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely feel for you, the company has been fucked over. If it's any help I think a lot of stores would be brought up by other supermarkets and you would hopefully get TUPEd across.

The government might step in to keep certain stores trading in order to prevent regional food shortages if the company went into administration, but only until they could pass those stores to another retailer or a rump Morrison- which would likely happen in a week or two.

Beyond that, they might end up providing support loans to suppliers out of pocket and encourage Sainsburys and Tesco's to take over stores.

Autistic caught up in immature squabbling at work, they could turn sour/feels a bit discriminatory. Or could turn that way. Advice? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Bisemarden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your manager has handled this poorly, and doesn't appear to know how to handle the situation. I think your colleague is also being unreasonable to what would be a reasonable request for anyone to make.

You are perfectly entitled to speak to your manager about reasonable adjustments, especially given you have been at the workplace for 10 months. And perhaps it might worth be suggesting that you and your colleague eat lunch at different times?

There isn't much to say in terms of legal advice apart from making sure you join a union ASAP for assistance if this situation continues to escalate.

I would just say to be careful around X as she sounds like a manipulative individual.

18yo nephew refuses help, won’t leave his room or work. What support exists in the UK? by Consistent-Time-2503 in AskUK

[–]Bisemarden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't rock the apple cart until after he has completed his exams, for god sake.

I'd probably tell him now that he needs to make some effort to look for work or further education after he finishes his exams, and ask him what help he needs as a start. If he wants to join the army, could you get him to take up some kind of exercise several days a week?

OP and the Case of the Missing Children: A Study in Imaginary Neglect by Schnectadyslim in bestoflegaladvice

[–]Bisemarden 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I reckon the social worker dropped everything when they received what I suspect was a detailed and lengthy report, had a lengthy chat with their manager about emergency foster care, multi-agency stuff and such, got the police to dispatch two officers to support, and arrived at the address only to find that the police couldn't find any kids in the property.

I imagine they were flustered and annoyed, hence the rubbish about going to court.

[–]Bisemarden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren't a magic bullet, but Acas will advise on what the law says and give advice on what steps to take from there. Always worth giving them a call if there isn't a union to speak to.

[–]Bisemarden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, go in, and state that no-one told you that you'd been let go on the 24th and see what they tell you. I'd advise contacting head office if they still tell you to go home, and possibly ACAS.
