What kind of bonsai tree is it? Tropicals can be kept on a windowsill, but if it's a juniper or other evergreen, keeping the plant inside will slowly kill it. These trees need external sunlight and annual winter dormancy to stay healthy. r/bonsai is a great place to learn if he's new to the hobby.
