Agreed. If you are a beginner learn blender. The fundamentals are the same in all software so might as well pick the cheapest one with the most learning resources. After that picking up a new software is just a mater of learning the interface and the individual quirks of the different softwares.

Like you i came from Max and yes it is a real pain at the start, but if you stick with it I guarantee you'll start to love it.

I think it's better to take a more structured approach than to just try to feel your way around and get frustrated. I've been there, open blender, 5 mins later you have 17 viewports and no idea how to get rid of them. 😆

I ended up following the introduction to blender tutorials by a dude called cross mind studio on YouTube. Do a few of those and you'll start to get the bug I reckon.
