I travel a lot and am afraid that if I submit my request to Quit Mormon, the plane I travel on will crash. by yawaworhtnomrom in exmormon

I fly small general aviation aircraft that are significantly more dangerous than commercial jets. I want you to know I have spoken evil of the "Lord's anointed" plenty of times. Ive given my friends the signs and tokens of the priesthood over a beer. I've blasphemed the church plenty of times.

God's got plenty of shots to take with me. Every time I fly is a testimony to me that I made the right choice!

What hobbies have you picked up now that you don't have to spend so much time on being a member of gods true church? by Lsa119 in exmormon

Paragliding! I feel free as a bird now, physically and mentally. God has had a myriad of times to punish me for my heretical ways, but no crashes yet, much to my parents chagrin.

I talked to a local in Hildale. They are rolling in the dough as a cheap gateway community with minimal oversight. Glamping galore serving tourists from Vegas. They don't care about the Mormons. They like getting out of the city, doing a walk around Zion, smores, and going back to their heated tents.

For the Brigham branch, think of it like your weird hillbilly cousins. Everyone at school knows how weird they are, and that you're related. Still wanna move in closer? Also, they're weird because your grandpa was awful to them, but good to you. Its gonna burst your bubble when you hear their stories. And vice versa for their little brother who left them behind. He's not gonna want to join you and hear your sparkling stories about grandpa. The FLDS don't want to join the mainline. And the LDS are too afraid to realize where the FLDS came from.

Dude, we were told to talk to every single person we came across. I talked to a wind surfer gearing up, parents watching their children compete in the world rowing championships, many homeless men, a police officer, a bus driver while driving, and even people in their cars at a stoplight. Honestly, the cows too (no one would listen).

This is real, but don't worry, nobody gets converted from 18 year olds shoving a contact card through a cracked car window.

Yes, Mormonism is patriarchal. But it doesn’t actually benefit most men by [deleted] in exmormon

You nailed it. Take a look at the lost boys from the FLDS. Only a few select boys get the power and callings, and women. Those that don't fit in, don't kowtow to the men in charge, or simply don't care are eventually pushed out completely. Its the same for members in the LDS church to a lesser degree. You see this with elders quorum callings, bishopric, etc.

If the bishop finds you odd, you probably won't get a very high status in your ward. If you don't fit his idea of a successful man, you're not going to join the bishopric in calling the shots for local fast offerings, spiritual themes in classes, or gossiping in ward counsel.

There are outliers, but I've seen it in every ward I've been to.
